Oh, no way!!! I have a maltipoo named Mojo who LOOKS and TALKS EXACTLY like this !! He "punctuates" most of what he does (getting up to eat, going out to pee, etc.) with the SAME kind of talking, and it's SO hard to prove it to others or capture it on vid! If Sweetie's "roots" could be traced to somewhere in Arizona, I would LITERALLY be convinced they are related!! LOVE YOUR VID!! It made my night!!!! ;-)

Sweetie never had any tear stain. You can close your dog's eyes and take some dry cornstarch and rub the stained hair between your fingers. Then, comb it out carefully. Do this often. You can also do the same thing for soft poops. Keep coating with cornstarch and combing it out.

This is true; she is just mimicking the tone in your voice because she knows that imitating you will result in a treat. She doesn't know what it means, and to talk means to exchange ideas and thoughts, neither of which is happening in this relationship.

Eyo, just sayin'.

But of course, not too many dogs can do this so it is amazing in and of itself!

There is an exchange of thoughts, because she knows what she is saying. She knows those words mean love. When I say it to her, she kisses me. Talking is her favorite thing to do. She will stop pointing to letters and start talking. She mimics the way I move my head, the way I thrust my tongue to make the "L" sound in "Love" as well. She uses the same inflection and cadence I use.

@sweetietsd She mimics because she knows that doing so will result in a treat. She 'loves' you because you are a provider, the alpha dog in the pack. She will respect you so long as you keep feeding her. Unconditional love from dogs is a little hard to come by, but I have seen it and usually you will see it as your dog accepting the presence of other people or the welcoming of others into the pack.

I never taught her anything else because I did not want to confuse her. I would rather have her say something really well than say more than one thing. Did you notice how she sticks her tongue out when she says "Love?" She copied that from me. She uses the same rhythm and cadence I used when I said it to her. She moves her head up and down like I do when I say it to her. She copied everything I did when I taught her. I have never seen another dog talk using their tongue.

I held up a treat, and I started saying it to her in a sing-song up, down, up voice. I said each word clearly. I thrust my tongue when I made the "L" word in "Love." Sweetie started to mimic everything I said and did. She raises and lowers her head, thrusts her tongue, and mimics the rhythm and cadence of how I say it. If I exaggerate thrusting my tongue, so does she. If I hold the "you" so will she. I only gave her the treat when she said it better than she did the time before. Good luck

Sweetie wanted to talk so much I did not have to do very much to teach her. I held up a treat, said the words in a sing-song voice, thrust my tongue forward when I made the "L" sound in "Love," and moved my head up or down with each word. I was very consistent with these actions. Each time she said it better than the time before, I gave her the treat. It only took two ten minute sessions each day over two days to teach her. (You had a lot of duplicate comments, so I deleted all but one.)

Sweetie is a Maltese. I understand about the hard biting. I had a Maltese puppy for a few weeks that was biting very hard. I could not get it to stop. We had a new baby coming into the family, and I could not take a chance that the dog would bite the baby. I had to give the dog back to the breeder. I was heartbroken. I learned later that this puppy came from a puppy mill. When dogs are raised under extreme circumstances, this is a learned behavior that will not be broken.
