  • How does this guitar compare to the D-28 Marquis? I really like the D-28 line, and sort of have my heart set on the Marquis. I've also been looking at the Clarence White model, since I'm a huge fan of the Byrds.

  • @Rottmad The D28M will have more headroom due to the Adirondack top and sound fatter too...honestly the marquis is a better sounding guitar with better quality woods

  • Jarvis I enjoy your reviews. I was wondering if you had any thoughts on the HD28 compared to the HD28v. Also if you would have any thoughts on how they would compare to the Santa Cruz D/PW. I have tried them all out and I am having a hard time deciding

  • @donkanyc The HD28V has a deeper and darker bass response compared to the HD28...The santa crus D/PW is a different beast altogether....play it and you will know. Buy what u like

  • Nice. yeah the golden Eras are great. I had a chance tom play the Om-28 Golden Era and the Om-18. Right now im investing into a Collings d2h or Om2h. They are very similar to Martins but with much cleaner bass response and ringing trebles as well as craftsmanship to almost perfection. Definitely one of the best boutique guitar builders out there and For the price of the really high end martins they almost just dont hold up to Collings, but like i said earlier I will have my old martin for life

  • I have found one for $4195, including the case.

Is that too much to pay for this guitar?

There is a HD-28 for $3495 incl case, but you have sold me on the HD-28V!

    Cheers,

    Chelsea

  • @chelseaiswright Great man...glad you found something you like..my suggestion is to buy what you like. You can get good prices from My favourite Guitars.com check the web. cheers jarvis

  • @chelseaiswright They sell for under 3,000 USD new where I live.

  • @chelseaiswright Hey chelsea. Martins are truly top in their class of guitars. Just so you know. Martin lists this guitar at $ 4099 but the segusted retail price is $3099. Basically you can take off a $1000 from most any Martin guitar's (list price) and you'll have the price you're paying for the guitar. Not to say their not worth the money just wanted to give you a tip so your not spending way more money than needed!

P.S I have this guitar. I bought it 6 years ago and its still my good friend!

  • @junoMcguff1 Thanks heaps for that info, I appreciate it. I think I'll get them to throw in a few accessories if they won't budge on price. I'm waiting til after Xmas in the hope that things may be cheaper! I'm definately getting eiter this or the Golden Era. Such great volume. THanks again :-)

  • @chelseaiswright Waaay too much money!!! Pretty much every dealer will take off 40% of MSRP on Martins. Good price on a brand new HD28V is about $2,500 and about $2,050 for standard HD28.

  • This guitar definitely prefers medium strings wouldn't you say? Light strings tend to bounce and rattle, are a little out of control.

  • What do yall think about a 2004 hd 28v?

  • How does this compare to D-28?

  • @rch456789 The HD28V has scallop braces..so you get a deeper bass and warmer tone. The D28 Braces are non scallop so the tone when its new sound tight and the tone is more articulate..you can more punchy type of tone..so you can wack it up and it still have loads of headroom. give it time once the D28 opens up its a power cannon...i like the D28 very much..

  • Guitar Saddle, I have been on the search for the Perfect Acoustic Under $4000 for this 21 year old Guy to buy. and man have you ever helped on this search, I change my mind every minute and also everytime i go to into guitar stores and play the different ones!!!. I think this is one of my favourite so far the Hd-28V. Do you have any advice for me? I need a Very Versatile acoustic. Any Advice for the Lost Man on His Search For His Beauty, As of Right Now I love This Hd-28v, But Who knows!

  • @danielvallieres555 A D28 martin would be good...why...it starts off with a normal unscallop bracing and sounds tight at the start..but give it time and once it opens up ..you will be amazed at the openess of the tone..I have played a couple aged ones and they are very good..

  • @guitarsaddle Hey! Check out 2nd-hand HD28V's, I bought mine 6 months ago and I love it. It is 14 years old, and I was comparing it with several other brand new Martins, D28, HD28 and HD28V and mine sounded much nicer, AND it was cheaper than a brand new one, probably by a good $1,000.

After a few years, the guitar sounds different (probably better), less twangy, but more volume and more bass, and a real 'golden' sort of tone!

Pre-loved, played in HD28V, try them out!!

  • Tried this wonderful guitar yesterday at my music store. It sound truly amazing. Now i have to decide between this and a standard d28 (that i also like a lot). The hd28v is amazing but its a little bit expensive for me...

  • @crazyRyoga Buy what you truly love...its like true love..you will wait for her whatever it takes...if not execise delay gratification

  • what the best strumming guitar for you ? gibson martin what model ?

  • I wish you would do a head to head comparison between the HD-28 & the HD-28V. That would be interesting.

  • Little more Bottom End, is that from the "Forward Bracing"? Being the neck is beefier is it harder to hold or chord on? I thought the HD-28 I played in the store sounded pretty loud. I love the Vintage yellow toner.

  • I'm watching this review drooling over this guitar and my own HD28V is sitting right next to me.. haha

  • NIce job! I am a lucky owner of a hd28v, And I cant ever put her down. The sounds that come from her just get better year after year. Again, Very nice job. jc

  • Very nice review !

    congratulation, awesome Martin!

  • That is a very nice guitar. How do you find the V neck?

  • @wtmk81 That V neck suits my hands ..which is twofold..reason being the neck width is 1 11/16 inches and the other is due to the way the Martin pitch the angle of the neck..which makes a whole lot of difference...when the neck angle is set at a correct optimum place..couple with a nice action height and a straight neck..playing it becomes very easy..cheers jarvis

  • very sweet sounding guitar!

  • Nice demo. Thanks for doning it!

  • Your reviews are excellent!
