It appears that Mr. Himes is not upright before God. He has recently been charged with fraud, laundering and conspiracy to commit the same. The victim? A member of his flock. Check out the Missoulian website for more.
all these old white people will die, their mewling spawn will realize, eventually, how disgusting those who squeezed them into this horrid world truly were, pot will be legalized, we will use our cruise-missile money (500,000 bucks per missile) to alleviate all our budget crisises. And thus America shall be born again. Unless sara palin or any of these tea party lunatics get even the tiniest morsel of what they want.
Well, then they should go across the board. If I were to live in Montana, I should then be able to discriminate against Christian folks for anti-religious reasons.
And here I thought I would be more repressed because I'm bisexual when I moved from Montana, where I've lived my entire life and attended U of M in Missoula, to Texas. Never imagined I would be wrong.
Himes, you are a disgusting man and you make me feel ashamed for loving my beautiful home state.
And seriously: FUCK YOU MONTANA (and so many other states) for voting into office these religious nutcases who then pass bills to take away our rights. What is wrong with this country? I am appalled and disgusted and it is criticial that the gay and lesbian community WAKE UP dammit. I hope everyone is PICKING UP THE PHONE in Montana and asking their representatives WHY the bill passed and WHY they allowed individuals calling for murder to testify.
Ok, seriously I don't think people fully realize how serious this is. Someone testifies in the House to justify MURDER of individuals (based on religious grounds)? And NO ONE reacts? No one is shocked by this? And the bill PASSES? I mean... All I have to ask is: WHAT IF FUCKING WRONG WITH YOU??? When will people fucking WAKE UP!!! The bill itself is bad enough, but THIS MAN is calling for the murder of individuals who have done NOTHING to him.
Committee hearing on this and another bill re: discrimination of people with LGBT sexuality was aired on public access tv. Bill was sponsored by committee member Kristen Hansen's (a Repub/lawyer) on behalf of this pastor and others. Committee Chair Peterson (R) betrayed public trust (and MT Constitutional Right to Participation in government) - tried to silence, polite audience opposing bill. Democrats Diane Sands and Ellie Hill shined. Great comments below re: crazy, literal Christianity.
The intolerant white guy ultra religious crowd is in its death throes because the rest of the world simply isn't coming along. Their hate-filled way of life is on the way out. We must all speak out for equal rights for ALL citizens!
It should be forbidden that any politician brings his/her religious beliefs to work. Leave it at home. One is never representing their district fairly by forcing their personal religious beliefs down their constituents throats. This is appalling. There should be a complete separation of church and state. This man, and anyone like him in politics should be forced to step down.
By my "like" i mean that I like that Rep. Ellie Hill did a good job of exposing the hate that motivates Mr. Himes, and I like that this vid is on the web so that others will know the truth. Himes and his comments are horrible.
Really?!??! This man smiles in front of the MT State Legislature after he says that gay people should be punished by death, and NO ONE in the room reacts? He and other "religious" people who believe this crap are simply more Jared Laughners waiting to happen: crazy people who smile at the thought of murder.
@TheSugnim Dave Strohmeier is sitting behind this guy, with his daughter in his lap. He is a City Councilman from Missoula Montana, and he passed the historic non-discrimination ordinance that is the subject of this bill. Missoula is a 3 hour drive and he sat there with his daughter for at least 3 hours. There were 52 people there to support equality. Only 7 of them were allowed to testify at this hearing.
Ugly man surrounded by equally ugly people. Montana will be getting exactly what it deserves for electing officials that hold allegiances to the Religious Right than to America and her citizens.
@kuhlwlf I didn't mean to imply that everyone in Montana is ugly. It's just too easy to paint everyone with the same brush, as Kristen Hansen and Harris Himes clearly demonstrate.
@TheDarkchild1980 I tried to post a reply including a link but it wouldn't post. Google Montana Peace River for the photos of the people who are standing up for equality and justice for all.
@klosterdev Really? So why is it that they only rule from that book that people seem to care about is applied to the gays? I guess the rest of them are too inconvenient for most people.
Six things the Lord Hates, seven of which are an abomination to him: Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that desires wickedness, Feet that ake haste to run to evil, A false witness who breathes out lies and A man who sows discard among brothers.
If you Literal Cristians are going to selectively point fingers and quote Leviticus remember all the other abominations in the bible so many of you are guilty of but choose to ignore. Stop using the bible as a weapon.
To all Literal Christians, There are 65 occurances of the word "abomination" used in the the OT, 5 refer to other people, 13 Dietary (shellfish, etc.), 17 Improper Sacrifices,3 Adultery/Divorce, 2 Love of money, 4 Dishonest Trade Practices, 12 Behaviors Ranging From Murder To Women Wearing Clothing Pertaing to Man (pants), 8 Passages Are Not Clear and 2 referring to homosexual behavior, though there was no understanding in biblical times of homosexuality as we define it today.
@moonflowerwaltz A "literal christian" would mean that one must adhere to every single thing in the bible without exception. Everyone should know that the buybull contradicts itself so much that this is impossible, which shows the utter stupidity of fanatics like this "pastor." A literal christian is a literal impossibility.
This is the problem with Christianity. We know about Jesus because of the Bible. If the Bible is true, then it's all true. But if some of it is false, ANY other part of it can also be false. Clearly a lot of it is false, because it's self-contradictory (two different creation sequences for example). Therefore there is no good reason to be a Christian. These are the necessary results.
The sad thing is that many of these people are just plain ignorant. It's not their fault; they were raised that way. Likewise were their parents were raised to believe a graceless, rigid, false Christianity that made them "right" & the rest of the world, not just wrong, but wicked, scary, & twisted. To these "true believers," sin is a contagion & "non-believers" (& liberal Christians) are infected hosts. If we can be converted or "cured," then great, but until then, we're anathema to them!
I wonder what the good book says about theivery?

But it still applies entirely and literally in todays world.
