Fantastic work. I wouldn't suggest anyone watch this before they see the film for the first time as it gives way too much away (as did the official The Fountain trailer did). But this is a fine encapsulation of the film. Very dramatic and well done.

I watched the movies, this movie is a big mistake as there are some usually. The reason is that whatever you want to make or show by allegories, effects or profound music or actions however if you are far from reality it has no value. Everything should be based on reality and truth thus should reflect it. Every other art will be forgotten in the history. Aronofsky's this movie is a big mistake.

The effects and such are their to highten the visceral nature of being on drugs, it would be irresponsible had he slowed it down when everything went from bad to worse. The reality comes harsh and quick like falling down a flight of stairs, would you rather he had just filmed someone falling down stairs?

From a superficial standpoint, It is easy to see the extent to which drug addiction negatively affects someone. It is harder to comprehend our addictions to our thoughts/beliefs/wants.

Drugs usually start out as a lifestyle, too, but -like religion- become a problem when taken too far. A little amphetamine or pot or some mushrooms / lsd on rare occasions are about as harmful as a slight booze and certainly less harmful or addicting than most of the sweet or fatty foods kids consume these days.

I think - if I remember it right - it is used to show the harry's inner fear of building up a future in which she won't be at his side. She is the only thing that he has beside the drugs and he knows that he will fall when she leaves him. That's why he falls into the emptyness after he realizes that she disappeared in his hallucination

@Arekux The reason why this film was created was to be dedicated to someone, someone who obviously meant a lot to someone and who died as a result of the mindset that “we’re young so let’s fuck ourselves up to the point where we can’t read or write.” Life is beautiful, don’t waste it on shit like this. I find it incredible that someone could even question the meaning of this film and its relevance to heroin and meth.

@Arekux Oh wow, I completely agree. I have a few friends who have been addicted to that shit but they cleaned up you know? They did the whole rehab thing, and for the most part, it worked for them. I think the point of this film is to show the extremes of a socieity gone mad - a world, a living hell, that is just so out of touch from reality.
