It is true that India was conquered by the Arab Muslims and the British and many atrocities were committed.

Today it is a super-power with its own Formula one team and many hi-tech achievements.

Aleem - The effects of entertainment and advertising on American youth is damaging as well, but I am interested in your perspective as a young Indian. In America, American youth cultures are marketed by big business to American youth themselves. A great deal of skepticism about advertising already exists among youth here, although obviously advertising is smart enough to know how to market to skeptic consumers.

I was trying to show the influence the media has on us through our willingness to pay multiple times the money for a food that is foriegn.This wouldnt have been possible if it wasnt for the marketing.And i have nothing against burgers or idlies and i eat them both.

Isn't it possible to like both iddlies and hamburgers? I understand your point about commercial imperialism and its effects. This type of imperialism threatens to impose a homogenous world culture on peoples. That's a serious problem. However, in this segment you never mention the reverse problem of clinging to a "native" culture that is based on a mythological national identity. What is "Indian" (or "American", for that matter)?
