  • I think I am going to try this but without the clicker as I do not have one. My 3 already know a good few tricks and seem to enjoy the work I may be able to do it with toys for some reasons with treats one of the dog gets too excited to do anything other then sit stay and lay down shes still knew to the pack.

  • Nice job! Great trick for people you don't like lol :)

  • i love how holly is in the background just watching for part of this video. if i tried to train one of my dogs with my other dog in the room they would both try to do the same thing lol!

  • @Hmenzi222 I have a video "how to train a dog while another dog stays back" you might find it helpful :) it takes a bit of time but it's worth it in the end as it can be very difficult when they all want to join in! hehe!

  • Excellent tutorial!

  • umm..first thank you soo much for posting this

and....I have a really big german shepherd..and when he is placing his front paw on my knww he is putting so much wieght in it..we are stuck..if i dont support his weight si is not doing it anymore....:(

do...you have any tips that may help? pleasee? xoxo

    P.S my dog loves you:)

  • @thewhitewingedwolf you could try asking your dog to target a wall rather than your leg? first place the books by a wall and then you can put something narrower by the wall and finally just the wall, you could look at my handstand video and apply the same tips but for the side legs rather than the back ones. let me know how you get on. give your dog a hug from me :)

  • What is your verbal cue for this trick? I am running out of ideas with all of our tricks!!! Sometimes I will forget, but fortunately I remember the body signals! haha

  • your pups are so cute!! great job training them too! =)

  • I have taught my neighbor's dog to jump on its hind legs (all by myself with hotdog XD)

  • the paw at 2:44 is sooooooo cute :)

  • i knw it nt mean but it lks like he dogs limping :L but i knw its just a trick and ur a real gd trainer!

  • i taught Jazz this today by ticking his leg he lifts his leg up that high my mum thought he was weeing lol

  • I think this is such a neat trick I plan on teaching my pup this but can I ask you what you say to cue your dog to do it. I'm not good at naming tricks. :)

  • oh my cue isn't very good!! I say 'both' but a good tip for new cues is to use a thesaurus for more ideas :-)

  • i am so happy, now i don't have to hold him at all! we are now working on cross paws. he doing pretty well so far.:-)

  • i taught taz this today! the problem is that i have to hold up his hindquarters so he will lift his leg. otherwize, he will just back up. plz help me :-)

  • hey, my comment won't fit here so I will mail you my reply :-)

  • ok now i see the problem. i say yes and good boy and good. ok thanx!

  • ok great tips! but i don't have a clicker, is that a problem?

  • I like to use a clicker as it is easier to get the exact same sound each time and makes timing easier too (you must click at the moment the desired behaviour happens) you can pick one up for a small amount of money at most pet stores or online, if you don't want to do that you can use a marker word in place of the click such as "yes!" say it short and clear and say it EXACTLY the same way each time.

  • i am hoping to make a video on taz's tricks. Yeah he knows quite a few.(sit, stay, down, roll over, shake paw, speak, spin, hold a cane, stand on two legs, jump, sit pretty, back into my legs) while moving and standing still

  • oh that is wonderful! what a lot of tricks your taz knows!! you will have to drop me a comment when you get a video up and I'll be able to watch :-)

  • i don't get it, how do you get your dog to step on the book?

  • you have choices, you can either use the method described in my 'cane trick' video for foot targeting using the book as the object or you can click and reward your dog for any movement towards the book and then reward your dog for putting a foot on the book (this takes lots of time but some people like this way of training) or you can lure your dog over the book with a treat and then quickly click and reward if your dog puts a foot on it, it doesn't matter if it's by accident at first :-)

  • another one for my tricks-to-teach-Jessie list, lol!

    great tutorial, as always :-)

    thank you!!

  • That looks so hard to do! Well done!

  • Haha, thanks :-) Holly seems to find it easy, I don't think I would like to try it if I were a dog though! hahaha! I hope you are all well :-)

I'm still amazed that Mabel is all grown up, she's a GORGEOUS young woman now. :)

  • Oh my goodness Sian! I never even thought about this trick before! Thank you so much for making this! I will have to try this with Samson, ha ha it may take a while for him to do it as it took him forever to learn how to lift his back leg up on command :) Thanks so much again! 5***** and favs

    Tammy

  • nice dogs :) cute trick!

  • Oh my gosh! I didn't even THINK to train it that way! Wow! I am so going to try this. Abbey already knows how to lift up her back leg because of the "boy dog" trick. I am going to try side legs now...COOL! Do you have a tutorial on how to teach shame...I'm having trouble with that one.

  • This is great, Sian! I have been wondering how to teach side legs up to Ricky - this will definitely give me some help. We are still working on handstand and are not able to progress past a certain height with the books. Not sure how this new trick will go. Thanks for posting another excellent trick tutorial! I always look forward to seeing your training and your dogs!

  • thank you, you are always so lovely. I think this is easier than handstand but the dog still needs to find its balance so obviously you need to stick with it but I'm sure Ricky will do fine. let me know if you get stuck or if you want any pointers with the handstand :-)

  • You're an awesome trainer and you have incredibly smart dogs.

  • Absolutely amazing! You, Holly and Mabel are the best...

  • Hi! Great job as always! Here's a request... can you do a tutorial about laterals and dogs walking sideways?! Thanks!

  • ooo, that's an idea. I'll give it some thought but it sounds like a winner to me. I might not get it up for a while but I'll add that to my 'to do' list for sure. thanks for the idea, very cool :-)

  • yay! I can't wait! hehe I could give you other ideas too! :P

  • I'm always open to suggestions! I can't promise which ones I'll do because I have a few ideas for videos that I need to get round to making (and in some cases training!) but I love getting feedback and suggestions as to what to do next so bring on any ideas of stuff you want to see :-)

    xoxo Jamie

  • Jamie, I love your comments, you are always so lovely to me :-) I use the cue 'both' and no hand signal as yet. you run out of ideas for cues in the end! love you and I'll write very soon, your last email had me in stitches :-) xxxxxxxx
