i think it's great how american wrestlers put rikidozan over, it really legitimized japanese wrestling ... it's so clear here that o'connor was rikidozan's superior, his speed & reflex were so great he actually had 2 slow down 4 rikidozan n this match ... i also like the way baby faces became heels whenever they wrestled over n japan, pat o'connor wrestling heel is the equivalent 2 some1 like rick steamboat wrestling heel, LOL, who da' thunk it? ha, ha
Thanks so much for posting this classic footage! Embarrassingly enough, I'm just now starting to get a sense of what a great wrestler Pat O' Connor was.
Thank you so much for tjis footage. It is strange to see Pat O'Connor as the heel because he was always the face here in St. Louis. Of course being part owner of the promotion helped.
Weather it be Japan (JWA, AJPW & NJPW), The AWA, NWA, or WCCW. From 1899-1992, this is back when the SPORT of wrestling actualy meant something & wrestlers actualy earned the right be called Legends. O'Connor & Rikidozan, two of the best to have ever stepped into the ring.
Armandroh, if u think this was great (& it was) go on my channel, i have a match with Verne Gagne vs. Red Bastien, it is 1 of the most incredible displays of scientific wrestling i've ever witnessed, not 1 kick or punch thrown! Check it out, it's a must 4 pure wrestling fans.
O'Conner was my favorite wrestler when I was a youngster. Odd to see him being the villian. That tall wrestler backing up O'Coller looks like Killer Kowalski... the guy backing up Rikidozan looks like (maybe) The Great Togo. Thanks for posting.
The NWA International Heavyweight Title was later unified with the AJPW PWF and NWA United National Heavyweight Titles to create the All Japan Pro Wrestling Triple Crown Heavyweight Championship.
Two great legends thanks

I wonder if there is a complete version of this match. It's edited so heavily you can't really tell what's going on

O'Connor wasn't an American.
He was a New Zealander.
