sorry but i got say that i liked the movie but i prefer the part that they weren´t singing because i think is like bad comparade with the beatles so i skiped some part that i thinked that was horrible
they all look like Prudence b/c it corresponds to what she said earlier about soldiers going to the villages and rapping girls who look like her ( meaning Vietnamese girls)
well i can't take all the credit i watched bonus features on Across the Universe redbox rental. Movie director gave that explanation to this particular scene :)
@MrParamorevamp I believe that ''the Chinese mermaid people'' represent the veitmanese people that were killed, and when they hit the water, it represents their deaths, when their bodies are piled up,it shows their graves.but thats just my opinion-please forgive my spelling
@TheGardenpartea I think we're all on the same page. Max is killing people who look like one of his best friends- the Us/Them dynamic that war fosters, that the They are so different from the Us that there is some justification in killing them breaks for him because he knows the Them aren't so different. I think Max sees bodies in the water- the dead women and civilians. The eastern philosophies entering the US counterculture came from the place we were destroying.
in the end you cant stop war no matter what you do the people whom start them are nasty greedy ass holes and will watch people die to get what they want.
i love jude's liverpudlian accent ^-^ something about it just makes me get all tingly. i love it. it's got to be liverpudlian-not just british. because british doesnt do that to me. maybe its because i love the beatles lol but it just does something to me lol ^-^
THe song Helter Skelter and this scene represents alot of things going on, but mostly the violent state of transition the entire society found itself in. Fighting itself both in Vietnam, here at home, on campuses and in homes among loved ones. You could call it birth pangs of a society about to be reborn, figuratively speaking.
The girls that it shows, the "vietnamese" girls, represents all of the young women and girls raped and killed by soldiers, both american and vietnamese, and the scene with the girls just floating in the water, with all of the masks is an actual photo, not quite as such, but there is one similar from that war.
I know I meant the movie is making a reference to it since Helter Skelter was one of charles manson's favorite phrases and he made all those claims about satanic backmasking in the beatles songs.
you also seam to forget that this movie is about a messege of love, peace and lack of war, it has nothing to do with sedistic serial killers set on murdering the woman they create families with
It's also a period social commentary, with all the stuff on the draft, vietnam, MLK,and the Haight-Ashbury. I just saw some similarities in that the dude getting arrested had a sort of cult of personality with all of his assistants, like the Manson "family". I realize the plot is not about serial murderers but a lot of it is open for interpretation and that's something that kinda jumped out at me.
i know they're vietnamese women. that's it, haha. when max is screaming "Die! Die!" when Jude's getting beat up, there's always a tear in my eye..something about that. <33
They wrote the song together. John told Paul he wanted to write something heavy and loud after he went to a heavy metal concert. John was inspired and impressed by the attitude and energy of the genre and started writing the song right after the concert.
I would argue in the opposite direction- Lennon was characteristically wild and Paul was (is?) the sensitive one. Just look at the difference between Helter Skelter, which John wrote, and Blackbird, which Paul wrote.
