  • From the video..panda is JunJun....monkey is Ai.....cat is Reina....am I right?

And Eri is a turtle ...Sayu is a rabbit?

    It is so funny...

  • Chinese is a language

    Mandarin, Cantonese are dialects

  • thank ytliang345...I think you are right...my English is not good...

In fact.. I just want to say that JunJun really talks more comfortably and faster in her own language.....

  • Mandarin is official language in mainland

  • taiwan as well

  • uhhhh i beg to differ. mandarin is NOT a dialect. mandarin IS basically the chinese language. if you disagree than PLEASE explain to me what the CHINESE language sounds like. because you said that CHINESE itself is the language right? than how do you speak it? mind showing me?

  • Hi whateverrr, u see...unlike English where words are constructed w/ alphabets (which r effectively "pronunciation instruction"), in Chinese language the writing are constructed with stylish "pictures" which bears precise meaning but little relationship with the pronunciation. While all regions in China use the same writing (we call it the Chinese language), ppl in different regions sort of decide however words are prononced. Mandarin is one of the ways, thus is not a language on its own.

  • Actually, the pronunciation of some Chinese characters can be identified. For example, the character for noodles 麵 (mian) is composed of 麥 (meaning wheat or barley) and 面 (mian, meaning face/surface/side/plane). 麥 indicates the meaning of the character, while 面 shows how it is pronounced - Noodles are usually made of wheat. This applies to Traditional Chinese characters mostly, since Simplified Chinese discards these conventions.

  • and where is the "pronuncition instruction" for 面? If you rely on this method to learn Chinese pronunciation, you won't know many words.

My point is, Mandarin can't be written down without using Chinese characters and Chinese grammar, so Mandarin is dialect not language.

  • Yes, Mandarin is a dialect of Chinese, but usually when people refer to Chinese as a language, they mean Mandarin which is the most widely used dialect.

  • Yup :) same in japan, when they say japanese they mean the tokyo or osaka dialect type nihongo cuz its the most common there unlike fukui dialect which is the hometown of takahashi ai.

  • Please explain this to me, from what I know, a dialect is kind of a spin-off of the original language.

Example: American English, and African American slang English are both dialects of the original English English.

So my question is, if Tokyo, Osaka, Fukui, and Okinawan are all just dialects, then what is truly "Japanese" and not just another dialect?

  • wow a very deep question :) but actually "Japanese" is not a Language its like a type of person. Example: you dont say "i want to learn American" right? cuz thats wrong, the proper way is "i want to learn English" right? so in Japan you dont say "i want to learn Japanese" you say "i want to learn Nihongo" But because people think that every country has ONLY one Language they say like "i want to learn Japanese or Chinese" ....to be continued
  • or Because its like a shortcut on sayin

"i want to learn Nihongo the Tokyo one" and because the Tokyo Nihongo is the Standard Japanese

like also in China there are two languages Mandarin and Cantonese but the people wants to learn Standard Chinese which is Mandarin

they say Chinese or Japanese because they think its a shorcut on saying

"i want to learn your Standard Language"

it means the language that the people use in there own country or the one that the people use often

  • You seemed to misunderstand the question...

And with only a 500 character count, I can't explain my question any better...

  • oh my bad :P

if your asking which is the Standard Japanese then its the one the people use in Tokyo

  • @ZXRaiyne in china there are more than just 2 languages there is shanghainese 2 and some other dialects

  • @Momoko002 i can speak the dialect in the fuzhou area =D

  • no no no no no no no, there are about 5 Main Han Chinese Language and 53 other minority ethnic language in Chinese. The 5 being Mandarin, Wu, Yue, Min, Xiang, Hakka, Gan. Cantonese is the biggest sub group of Yue. The kind of Mandarin most people speaks are not really their first language. The 'Standard Mandarin' which most people speak is only a sub division of the Mandarin language. All the 5 Chinese languages are spoken language, and they have different grammatical structure.

  • @jimmyjamesWang, I mean 7, not 5.

  • Nihon = Japan

So yes, japanese is the word.

  • May be you want me to say clearly..

    "Putonghua"...

In fact...Chinese can be a language...

Putonghua is a type of Chinese..

Cantonese is also a type of Chinese..

I live in Hong Kong and talk in Cantonese..

  • JunJun talks faster in Chinese.....

  • duh ! she IS chinese !
