hello there, i need help with my final cut pro....I have edited my project in another computer before i saved the project and opened it on another computer. The thing is i only have the final cut session saved from the previous computer. Thus, the media files all went offline. So how do i find the media files from the previous computer? And if i found it, do i have to re-edit my video in the timeline? Thanks.

I think it's a great tutorial however it's just as easy to have one image on two separate layers. Use perspective>flop on the bottom layer image. Then go into the motion tab scroll down to crop. Crop the image from the bottom and then just add a feather. There's no reason why it should take 10 minutes to explain a reflection.

@BLUESOULDESIGNS No, that plugin is not available for any editor other than Final Cut. Any respectable editing software will give the same results without the plugin though.

Its a FREE tutorial! Stop complaining. Saw the people talking about how quick they could do it Vegas so I timed myself. Having never tried this before I did it in under 2 min. There is a difference between someone editing it for themselves vs training on audience how to do it.
The only thing I would add is if you would like to have the video look 3 dimensional use the Distortion tool (press d) in addition to what provideoschool showed.
FUCK this. You make it look easy oh just drag it and then edit it. NOT THAT EASY. You drag the picture and it doesnt pop up in the canvas. And changes you make don't show in real time like it does in your canvas either, even though the image is shown i nthe timeline. Then you hit undo it takes off the image and takes it out of the browser put doesn't put it back in the browser when you redo. I'm just trying to put a logo in the corner of my video....
to drag the picture to the canvas u cant drag on the actual picture, u drag off next to it in the black area. Any changes do happen in real time on the canvas, to see them u gotta have the time marker thing on the area u are working on. for the last thing not sure whats wrong there.

i did everything but when i hit play a weird noise like a metronome keeps playing and i cant see my video, it just says unrecognized or something like that
easiest way is to go to sequence, and click render all. there is a legend/guide available showing the code for knowing what needs rendering. normally, right above the edited or captured clips, those needing to be rendered (with the clicking "metronome" sound) have a red line throughout them
Hey man that noise is the render noise. so what that means is that you need to render the track what you do is highlight the clip and move your cursor to the word in the toolbar that says sequence and select "render all" that will render the clip and the clip will render and play it back.
are you referring to AE above Final Cut in general? Or just for this specific technique? for effects, AE is obviously better - but when it comes to filmmaking, AE is a complimentary program.
AE is also extremely difficult to run for beginners.

@kindahokey Final Cut Pro is used for real films and other stuff. If you are handy with the program, you can buy a special shortcut keyboard and you can make things lot faster!
@kindahokey Final cut pro may be slightly more long winded but is industry standard and is massively featured and versatile. With quite a bit of practise you can get stunning results with FCP.

Most of them basically said that FCP was just marketed more efficiently. So yeah if u r going into the industry FCP but if u wanna make great vids quickly and efficiently go with vegas.

Yeah it can do eveyrthing Sony Vegas can plus some. Also by the time you buy a good pc and sony vegas you will have already payed for: FInal Cut Pro for video editing, Motion for advanced text effects 3d and more, sound track pro for advanced audio editing, compressor for exporting to different for mats including blu-ray, and dvd studio pro for dvd authoring
Avid is actually but Final Cut is pretty popular for Independent editors and is sometimes used for major studio movies. I like Premiere better personally.
What are you talking about? The vast majority of movies made are still film. I'd guess that 95% of the movies you see trailers for or see in theaters are film. Unless you mean digital as in the editor, last I checked Avid is still computer based.

i keep getting a red error box when i try to load one of my video clips into the timeline it pulls a red box in the canvas and says display univalibe im on a mac if this helps any

I use Final Cut Pro, and sometimes when I import files, like a .mov file the audio is missing but if i play the file in quicktime the audio is there, also - if i import a file, that i downloaded off the internet, the video size is a lot smaller than the other clips i have.
try to convert the file to DV format, its eady to fiund a conversor, when its converted you'll have to render audio only once and so you'll be able to edit it without rendering and with sound

It might be because you haven't rendered the timeline yet. Try exporting a portion of the timeline and see if the quality really is that bad.

@gosstony well this took me 10 minutes to show in a fairly slow tutorial - so 4 minutes to do it is probably well within reason for Final Cut.

It's really a lot easier in vegas.

@gosstony tony I see your point - and Vegas is great and all. Final Cut doesn't exactly bill itself as the fastest NLE to get accomplished every video trick. But the fact of the matter is to some people with FCP, Vegas is not an option so there's still some value in learning how to do this.

I was responding to the coments that people were leaving saying that they needed to switch to mac to achieve these results. If you have a mac, yes, use FCP.
I was just advising people against switching only because they thought that these features are only available on a mac.

@provideoschool Additionally, Final Cut Pro has WAY more features then vegas, although vegas is quite easy because its easy to use (my 11 year old son can use it).

@gosstony @gosstony IT'S A TUTORIAL. I can do it in about 1 minute now because I have LEART HOW TO DO IT. A lesson in any sort of subject takes a while, this guy would be a pretty shitty teacher if he made the video only a minute long and rushed the whole process

to not need to render each slip after you do each little change, you will need a camera that records to DV instead of a flash card.

a PC lasts an average of 2 years (If you are using it for gaming etc.) and a good gaming system that will last long is about 2-3000 (same as an iMac)
a $3000 PC will last you about 4 years if you treat it well/give it the occasional upgrade
Macs can last as long as the hardware is there. the OS is so streamlined, as long as you have an intel based machine, you can get the latest OS and you can run most of the programs. I know people with macs that are about 8 years old and they still run fine.

No, not without an upgrade. Windows came out in april 1984. The original mac came out in Jan. 1984. Now, there were computers before that, obviously, but these were the first computers with a graphic interface And intel is from IBM, not Microsoft. Intel sells their chips to who buys them.

dude.. nannaaa.. you got it all wrong.. what you use? wikipedia? lol... you phail... ive been using this exact same computer (pc) for over 5 years now and non stop gameplay on it.. the only uprgrade i got on it was to get a better monitor which has nothing to do with the actual tower... and btw.. mac did not come out before pc.. and intel is not a chip,its a processor...

Yeah it can do eveyrthing Sony Vegas can plus some. Also by the time you buy a good pc and sony vegas you will have already payed for: FInal Cut Pro for video editing, Motion for advanced text effects 3d and more, sound track pro for advanced audio editing, compressor for exporting to different for mats including blu-ray, and dvd studio pro for dvd authoring

Avid is actually but Final Cut is pretty popular for Independent editors and is sometimes used for major studio movies. I like Premiere better personally.

What are you talking about? The vast majority of movies made are still film. I'd guess that 95% of the movies you see trailers for or see in theaters are film. Unless you mean digital as in the editor, last I checked Avid is still computer based.

and break a bunch of liscence agreements. there are two, legal, ways to run PC on a mac. one, illegal, way to run OSX on a PC
Now, yes, PC's are cheaper, but when using them for gaming/editing etc. they don;t last as long as a mac. I know people who use their macs professionally and they have been using them for about 5-8 years.

i have a editing question for you or whoever can answer it.
I use Final Cut Pro, and sometimes when I import files, like a .mov file the audio is missing but if i play the file in quicktime the audio is there, also - if i import a file, that i downloaded off the internet, the video size is a lot smaller than the other clips i have.
do you know how i could fix this?

try to convert the file to DV format, its eady to fiund a conversor, when its converted you'll have to render audio only once and so you'll be able to edit it without rendering and with sound
