Why don't you say how the Samsung Galaxy S 2 has a better technology screen. It has a Super AOLED Plus screen compared to HTC LCD power hungry old tech screen. The Samsung is thinner due to this technology.
I bought one of each. I tried the htc amaze and the samsung for the wife. The battery life of the amaze is horrible. I have 2 batteries and still cary a charger with me every where I go. The Samsung has a bettery battery life. People say that the camera button on the side of the amaze is handy but I find myself clicking on the icon on the screen. I really like the Samsung so much better then the Amaze. I waited to long to return my Amaze so now im stuck with it. I would recommend Galaxy s2
excellent work with the compare and contrast... you really helped my decision on which phone even though there alot alike.... ive already subsribed thanks again
I've been testing out the Galaxy note for the last 2 days and I love it.. however, coming from the HTC Hero I really miss sense UI. My messages widget, clock, the overall polish.. I haven't been able to find something in the market place that lives up to it.
Now im stuck between the HTC Amaze or the Galaxy Nexus (as i didnt mind stock ICS, but still wonder about some of the missing widgets im used to)
@mysticdragon38 Stock Nexus is always good but the only overlay I prefer is SENSE!! Love it man, its much more fun and you can always count on HTC to make a quality premium body (love my Amaze). Samsuck GSII is nothin' but a big piece of plastic BULLSHIT!!
Shes in love with HTC Amaze like IGN is in love with Call of Duty. A little bias but Im not complaining because the HTC Amaze is actually a good phone.
@TheTrippleTKA yes it does, i got the amaze for the valentines sale and i love the phone! the only bad thimg is battery life... but thats just with any touch screen phone now a days
People keep sayin the review is biased but people forget that she says both phones are great and you can't go wrong with either phone, its not like she is saying the gs2 is inferior to the amaze just cause she points out her dislike for the plastic materials used on the gs2
Don't like this review. The Samsung has an email app that allows you to view all your email accounts at a glance, the HTC doesn't have this. She's focused too much on the hardware which is pretty much a wash, and not nearly enough on the included software.
I'm going to sell my phone next week and I'll have an estimated $500+ saved up for the Lumia 900 for T-Mobile. If it doesn't come out like predicted, I will opt in for the HTC Amaze/SGS2
I have a Samsung vibrant and actually prefer the touchwiz UI. That said, I don't like much else of what Samsung has to offer. It has the worst customer service ever. It promised Gingerbread nearly a year ago and has yet to give it. It took nearly a year for U.S. Galaxy S carriers to push through Froyo. Take promises of upgrades from this company with a grain of salt.
i disagree about video capture between the two. the galaxy s two does much smoother video quality and it has a way better mic in it. just listen to the horrible mic on the amaze 4g. it makes me not wanna record any videos with it. i love HTC don't get me wrong but the gs2 is better when it comes to video. also if u run the two phones on wifi and compare the browser speed test the gs2 will always load the pages faster.
should i wait for a new phone coming out later in q2 (one i have no idea) or buy htc amaze or galaxy sii? i'm still on the fence about buying a new cell phone but i'm on a borrowed iphone 3g. any suggestions?
@hawthornechemical Here are the phones coming to AT&T announced this week: go to mobiletechreview web site, and put this string after the main url: /ubbthreads/showflat (dot) php?Number=41969
@MobileTechReview . what about the importmant stuff?they both are new and good phones. i.e (battery life). and for me how flexible or convient (usb) are both of the phones.
@hawthornechemical Lumia 900 is coming in March for ATT! Amazing phone! May for other Carriers! I can't wait for May, so I have to get either the Amaze or Galaxy S2 now from T-Mobile ):
@lessen1 he's telling the truth but the samsung galaxy s 2 isn't a google phone either, only the galaxy nexus, nexus S, and the nexus one are really "google" phones
Seems quite biased towards the HTC phone.. especially when one realizes that the review conveniently left out the Amaze's worst feature.. the battery.
@antipop198 lol tell me about it "HTC is a really nice interesting phone... it's also HEAVIER." Trying to brainwash us into thinking heavier phones are better, I think her biased view had a bad impact on her ability to really review the phones.
heavier cause of the premium materials not like the fucking cheap plastics on the galaxy series trust me i sell cell phones and samsung brainwash you saying they have super amoled but the resolution is shit compare to others not just htc phones
WOW! THIS LADY IS A FUCKING HTC FAN GIRL! You should not be comparing these two phones because obviously you're siding with the HTC Amaze 4G. When comparing phones keep it professional and don't give your personal opinions. Both phones are great devices, and it all depends on peoples preferences. I have a Galaxy s2 and I had the HTC sensation before(which is barely any different from the htc amaze) and Both phones and interfaces work well. You put too much of your personal input. Keep it proff.
With the HTC Amaze did you notice a light bleed from the bottom 4 buttons? I've heard there is one when you view your phone at night and the buttons light up. SG2 Doesn't have a bleed issue with light.
@gucciaddict lol yea she didn't go into it real technical.Alot of aesthetics and how pretty one phone is over the other.Kinda biased review in my opinion "slab of glass with plastic".I actually like the simpler cleaner design of the galaxy.
The Amaze have higher resolution and still faster. Galaxy S2 suck harddddddddddddddddd, even the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S with single core and higher resolution is faster than the Galaxy S2.
I own both phones, bought one and won one. Amaze feels better in the hand (opinion), and seems faster (tested against my own and a friends GS2). The Galaxy S2 from T-mobile seems to lag a little at times (mine and my friends) yet the Amaze hasn't had that issue. Screen also, I like amaze over GS2- Mainly because GS2 has a blue/green tint that all AMOLED screens seem to have, making the Amaze a little truer to colors. AMOLED also seems to oversaturate reds. But Amaze Battery Sucks.
just got HTC AMAZE . i was confused and thought i made a bad decision but after your review i feel good :) Thanks Great Review. I am coming from GALAXY S no doubt Super Amoled has great colors .
@bozotheclown9 i been looking up hours of reviews and the samsung galaxy s2 gives a extra hour of battery life but its possible to drain down the htc amaze 4g down to 3 hours while doing heavy video streaming. while samsung galaxy s2 can drain down to 4 hours.
htc amaze average 5 hours while samsung galaxy last 6 hours if used simultaneously
My gurl got the amaze had it for ah week n droped it one time n it cracked my gsII i droped it multiple times n it still looks brand new...n gsII gonna get ics before amaze
Hey ! thanks :D > I'm going to get one of those tomorrow ... Maybe the two ! Thanks for the review, Me & my wife watched together :D > lol its our first movie with our new blanket ! :P
thanks for the review. looks like ill be ordring the galaxy s2 tonight. i hate its resolution and touchwiz but it has better battery life and is faster and i like the bigger screen. im definately gonna root it to get the stock android os
@nfsYT its true the galaxy s2 has a better battery life you get only 1-2 hours difference thought. and its still possible to drain the battery down to 5 hours.
its actually not faster with the processor but it is faster with the wifi speed.the screen defiantly does ruin the samsung galaxy s2 but to me battery is more important
@burster8boostar the galaxy s2's low resolution was almost a deal breaker for me, but when i got it, it wasn't as bad as i was expecting, and i can definitely live with it, and the colors are very nice. as for the battery, i found a great app called juice defender that helps keep the phone running for as long as 2 days (no exaggeration!)
Man this is really tough. I like the build quality of the Amaze, but the GS2 wouldn't be damaged as much when dropped. I like the resolution of the Amaze, but the GS2 has the beautiful Super AMOLED+ display. I like Sense, but the customizable widgets on Touchwiz are amazing. I like the camera on the Amaze, but the audio quality is horrible while the GS2 has a decent camera and the audio quality is excellent. I may sound biased, but I truly am not. I had a Vibrant so I'm used to Touchwiz.
One of the more useful phone reviews I've seen. Most reviewers don't even mention telephonic audio quality nowadays, Thanks. BTW, no one knows I like to speakerphone my BB. Did you happen to test that? I sensed a little HTC bias perhaps, but that may be due to appearance factors. As a guy, the Samsung appeals to my macho a bit more.
I love HTC but I'm loving my SGSII right now too. I'm torn in-between the two. I'm thinking the SGSII will be able to flash ICS before the Amaze though.... Decisions, decisions!
What about the built in ram and memory? and I find the HTC phone is just boring. its the same thing they have been doing for a year or two, with updated specs. at least sammys phone has got it all..
I had a Samsung Galaxy S2 (Hercules) and exchanged it for an HTC Amaze. Although the display is nicer on the S2, the build quality is far, far superior on the Amaze. The S2 feels cheap and it's not solid at all.
2 awesome phones, but the amaze has a dedicated camera button and is a much better looking phone. I'm a big samsung fan, but this is the phone that convinced me to switch teams for now. Plus sense ui is so much more appealing than touch wiz.
I got the Amaze last night and love it. I noticed a little lag with the GS2. If I don't view them side-by-side, I won't notice a difference in displays. The main selling point for me was the build quality of the Amaze. HTC builds great hardware and I also like the Sense GUI.
Lisa I have an HTC desire HD. love the phone and the sense...should I get the amaze?. my heart is saying so. also will the amaze get the ice cream update?
@lacgugolator Camera is definitely better and the Amaze feels faster. As for ICS, only HTC can tell us that. I'd say there's no technical reason why it shouldn't get it, but marketing sometimes gets in the way.
Both are excellent and it was a tough decision. I decided to get the HTC because I went to the store and put both of them in my hands. The HTC felt better and I just sensed it had a better build quality.
I did extensive research and it was painfully close. The higher resolution on the HTC was also a tiebreaker.
Can't decide? Go see them in person and go with the one that suits your preferences. If you see them both side by side in your hands you will find it easier to decide.
Hey Lisa, perfect as always! what's the final word? If I had to get one right now, and i had no preference either way, no qualifiers... GS2 or Amaze?
p.s. does the resolution on the amaze make it more likely to better support ICS, whenever it gets ported at a later date, owing to the higher native res support of ICS?
thank you for another honest review. not kidding when I say best mobile tech reviews on web. If only more were as consistently honest and thorough as Lisa.
I spent about an hour on both phones biggest differences I found were Amaze is screen is much more clear and bright when streaming video.Lisa mentions this she calls the Samsung picture more cool but in fact it is darker and inferior.I tried a live stream of Occupy Wall Street and the Samsung was able to stream the video but the Amaze produced only audio no video, interesting. The weight factor can be seen either way you may get used to it or wish you had a lighter phone.
I just got the gs2 on Tmobile but I played with the amaze and it's a very nice phone I just wanted that super amoled plus but yes the amaze is great looking
I have always been a samsung galaxy s2 fan, and still am. but since i saw the htc amaze, its design cannot escape my head, and i was planning to get the sg s2 but im thinking of getting amaze. However the samsung is great, and i recommendd it.
Hey lisa Does the Sg2 have an LED notification light, and also I am currently using a mytouch 4g slide which has a great camera of its own, would u say there's not much of a difference between the MT4g camera and the amaze 4gs camera
Thanks Lisa, great review of 2 awesome phones... I just have one question, which has the clearest QWERTY keyboard? I am partially sighted and have found in the past it makes a big difference.
@MrJossy79 They are on par with each other in terms of size and easy-to-see of the keyboard. The HTC Amaze 4G's keyboard has more easy-to-use features and shortcuts, both both keyboard are about the same for clarity. Good luck!
@soleil3gs We are still doing several tests on that, but so far we found the Galaxy S II battery life is a bit better than the HTC Amaze 4G battery life, though nothing is that drastic for us. We will provide more info, stay tuned.
Something interesting yet debatable... Samsung had announced the scarcity of their exynos chipset (due to high demand). I think Sammy couldn't afford to give this model the Exynos chipset; instead they compensated for the loss by giving an inferior processor but a slightly higher clock speed, knowing full well its performance still wouldn't match the Exynos.
OHHMG you are sooo much better than Aron from Phonedog. i asked him if Samsung had noise cancellation, he ignored my comment and has no idea what that is.
GOD DAMN, THIS DECISION IS SO HARD! I love HTC but the HTC Amaze just doesn't seem to outright blow the Galaxy S2 out of the water! What am I supposed to do? W/e phone I pick, I am going to be stuck with for 2 years!
@keepzero The U.S. carriers did their "made to order" bit on the Samsung Galaxy S II. The AT&T and Sprint versions have the Samsung Exynos dual core 1.2GHz CPU but the T-Mobile USA version has the Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 1.5GHz CPU.
@MobileTechReview I wanted your opinion on battery life. I am seriously thinking a/b getting the Amaze, but I'm concerned w/ it's battery life. I hear the SII has a longer battery life than the Amaze & that is due to the Amaze having a more powerful processor, so I guess it drains the battery alittle more. Do you think that will become a bigger problem in the future? Because of the powerful processor, it will drain the battery to the point the battery life lasts half the time it shld.
@KizzMeDeadly We are still doing several tests on that, but so far we found the Galaxy S II battery life is a bit better than the HTC Amaze 4G battery life, though nothing is that drastic for us. We will provide more info, stay tuned.
@KKIC811 ..yes! I agree 101%. I just posted on another review that its hard to compare w/ most narrators starting off bias & already in favor of 1 phone over the other. I like this video tho and it was much easier to understand her ..
can i get a clean unbiased review about the phones lady? i don't care about which you like more..geez its like HTC is paying her to take away samsungs thunder... both phones are fucking amazing and she's just shitting on one and not the other.
@lexares Bro.She makes unbiased reviews. The thing is.Samsung Galaxy s2 by T-Mobile has Snapdragon S3 processor. Its the same processor that Sensation uses.So this makes the Amaze/Sensation better.Cuz T-Mobile S2 can even score 4000+ on benchmarks so this clearly means that Snapdragon S3 is way faster than Exynos.Obviously the Snapdragon S3 is much better.Sensation gets low benchmarks because its running with qHD resolution so 35% more workload + HTC Sense 3.0 so that makes Sensation slower.
I heard SGS2 doesn't support Wifi calling, for many of us that don't have great service at work this would be a deal breaker... can anyone confirm this
@mh646 benchmark tests dont mean anything in real world usage...its more for just bragging rights. Plus depending on the benchmark test you run it might now show both cores just the one.So then its a pointless number.
SG2 the best

I love HTC but I'm loving my SGSII right now too. I'm torn in-between the two. I'm thinking the SGSII will be able to flash ICS before the Amaze though.... Decisions, decisions!

What about the built in ram and memory? and I find the HTC phone is just boring. its the same thing they have been doing for a year or two, with updated specs. at least sammys phone has got it all..

Thanks for the review, Lisa. Was thinking about going for Samsung Galaxy S2, but after watching this review, I will definitely go for HTC Amaze 4G.
:)

I had a Samsung Galaxy S2 (Hercules) and exchanged it for an HTC Amaze. Although the display is nicer on the S2, the build quality is far, far superior on the Amaze. The S2 feels cheap and it's not solid at all.
arakys 4 months ago
Thanks for the comparison; just what I needed to see :) Now I know I'm going for the HTC Amaze.

HTC builds great hardware and I also like the Sense GUI.
gardenwife 4 months ago
Lisa I have an HTC desire HD. love the phone and the sense...should I get the amaze?. my heart is saying so. also will the amaze get the ice cream update?
lacgugolator 4 months ago
@lacgugolator Camera is definitely better and the Amaze feels faster. As for ICS, only HTC can tell us that. I'd say there's no technical reason why it shouldn't get it, but marketing sometimes gets in the way.
MobileTechReview 4 months ago
@MobileTechReview HTC has announced that the Amaze 4G will receive ICS (Android 4.0) in early 2012.

which manufacturer is better at putting out android updates?
patrickjw333 4 months ago
Both are excellent and it was a tough decision. I decided to get the HTC because I went to the store and put both of them in my hands. The HTC felt better and I just sensed it had a better build quality.
I did extensive research and it was painfully close. The higher resolution on the HTC was also a tiebreaker.
Can't decide? Go see them in person and go with the one that suits your preferences. If you see them both side by side in your hands you will find it easier to decide.

@nevadaxtube still cant decide with all these reviews. But yea, that's what i'll do tomorrow!!!! :)

@missiemoolissa I like the build quality on the Amaze, but I also like the Super AMOLED Plus display on the Samsung. It's not an easy choice.

With the dedicated camera and video buttons, is there an issue when they are in a case or pocket, that they accidentally get pushed and turn on?
I have not read it anywhere.
flyfishn 4 months ago
@flyfishn No, the screen and buttons (except the power button) are locked when the device is asleep.
MobileTechReview 4 months ago
Hey Lisa, perfect as always! what's the final word? If I had to get one right now, and i had no preference either way, no qualifiers... GS2 or Amaze?
p.s. does the resolution on the amaze make it more likely to better support ICS, whenever it gets ported at a later date, owing to the higher native res support of ICS?
MrFraz82 4 months ago
@MrFraz82 I don't think the resolution will matter for ICS. It is a really hard choice between these two phones!

Thanks Lisa, great review of 2 awesome phones... I just have one question, which has the clearest QWERTY keyboard? I am partially sighted and have found in the past it makes a big difference.
Thanks!
MrJossy79 4 months ago
@MrJossy79 They are on par with each other in terms of size and easy-to-see of the keyboard. The HTC Amaze 4G's keyboard has more easy-to-use features and shortcuts, both both keyboard are about the same for clarity. Good luck!

@MobileTechReview What about battery life?
soleil3gs 4 months ago
@soleil3gs We are still doing several tests on that, but so far we found the Galaxy S II battery life is a bit better than the HTC Amaze 4G battery life, though nothing is that drastic for us. We will provide more info, stay tuned.
MobileTechReview 4 months ago
@Ytremz nope, T-mobile chose the Qualcomm processor so they can get 42 Mbps. It has nothing to do with exynos shortages.
soleil3gs 4 months ago
Something interesting yet debatable... Samsung had announced the scarcity of their exynos chipset (due to high demand). I think Sammy couldn't afford to give this model the Exynos chipset; instead they compensated for the loss by giving an inferior processor but a slightly higher clock speed, knowing full well its performance still wouldn't match the Exynos.
Ytremz 4 months ago
@gaivoron that's a fail as the noise cancellation mic is situated at the base of the Galaxy S 2.

@gaivoron ...Or he felt that maybe you should've already known that noise cancelling is pretty standard on the latest Android SP's.
WalterTramontana 4 months ago
@WalterTramontana no i wouldnt know that, since no Samsungs or LGs got noise cancellation.

keepzero 5 months ago
@keepzero The U.S. carriers did their "made to order" bit on the Samsung Galaxy S II. The AT&T and Sprint versions have the Samsung Exynos dual core 1.2GHz CPU but the T-Mobile USA version has the Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 1.5GHz CPU.

RoccoDaOne 5 months ago
@MobileTechReview I wanted your opinion on battery life. I am seriously thinking a/b getting the Amaze, but I'm concerned w/ it's battery life. I hear the SII has a longer battery life than the Amaze & that is due to the Amaze having a more powerful processor, so I guess it drains the battery alittle more. Do you think that will become a bigger problem in the future? Because of the powerful processor, it will drain the battery to the point the battery life lasts half the time it shld.

@KKIC811 ..yes! I agree 101%. I just posted on another review that its hard to compare w/ most narrators starting off bias & already in favor of 1 phone over the other. I like this video tho and it was much easier to understand her ..
bluepeas510 5 months ago
can i get a clean unbiased review about the phones lady? i don't care about which you like more..geez its like HTC is paying her to take away samsungs thunder... both phones are fucking amazing and she's just shitting on one and not the other.
lexares 5 months ago

@mh646 benchmark tests dont mean anything in real world usage...its more for just bragging rights. Plus depending on the benchmark test you run it might now show both cores just the one.So then its a pointless number.
