The problem with this kind of sting is that it attempts to bring people down on intent for an intended crime that, while evil and worthy of torture, isn't fatal. The other problem is that the female subject they use is over 18 and not underage. I'd respect this more if they at least used an underage female subject.

But the fact is, underage decoys are used all the time in law enforcement and it's up to the child's guardian(s) to consent (prostitutes and even hitmen are used in sting operations where someone needs to be set up). They could very easily get a 16 or 17 year old to do Dateline (except in New York 17 would be pointless because 17 is considered the age of consent there).

One girl they use is only 18. It's not like being a 1-year legal adult means she can't be hurt now...

I can send you a link to a Texas Police Department form for underage decoys as an example. I understand you don't agree/like the idea, but it's a routine thing to do in LE. Sometimes it's impossible to catch a criminal in a specific circumstance without using a child decoy.
