Rob you are so on as far as not using TAB and teaching kids how to use their EARS! The first lesson besides tuning AFTER I intonate their guitars and show them how and why that is important, i have them pick their most favorite song and teach that first. Doing this fuels ALL other song to be played. Once they get that, i demo how to tune to records and then have them break songs down from their favorite genre...Then they give me a lesson on what they learned and we discuss ALL techniques used
More fun even than the hot rod lincoln lick. But without tabs I had to replay the vid about 50 times. well worth it and I just wish I could reproduce more than the last part.
If you have full video lessons along those lines of rock or country I would consider buying them. I understand that you are a teacher and have to make a living.

hahaha, Cute Telecaster...I have one of the REAL, ORIGINAL (1968 or 1969) Fender "F-Series" James Burton Pink Paisley Telecasters...& I have a White American Standard Telecaster too...I'm unsure of the year it was made, but it's newer...my guess is between 1998 & 2004....& I have a 1967 Gibson Flying V (Re-Issue), a Mid-1990's Jackson Randy Rhoads RR3 Flying V (even though Jackson should've called the Randy Rhoads Flying V's a "Flying Lower-Case j" or a "Flying Check-Mark"....) & more Axes too
You should give Rob one of your guitars, or maybe spend more time practicing, or maybe just evolving. Then you could give the gift of inspired, thoughtful lessons, like Rob, as opposed to posts that brag about guitars that are suspiciously silent. On second thought, maybe take a lesson from the silence of your guitars.
WOW! Graet video!

great....yeah, I guess the sound could be better, even your voice is a bit difficult to understand at times.
however, unlike some demo vids, yours actually teach the stuff. Appreciated.

Awesome licks, Rob, do you have any of this tabbed out?
SconeMason 2 years ago
Sorry, I don't use tab. I find my students learn better by ear. These are mostly reference videos, for my private web cam students to review with.
Cool name Scone LOL.

But why did you record this you almost fell to sleep? Couldn't you done it when you were a bit more rested...?
killingen 3 years ago
I teach guitar all day, so I do these lessons late at night, after everyone has gone to sleep.
I wish I had more time.

Don't confuse sleep deprivation for cockiness. I was recording this with too little sleep.

I bet you started your guitar hoppy by playing classical music. :D. Very groovy picking.
peelopuu 3 years ago
You are right. I listened to mostly Strauss and Bach, but I studied a lot of classical themes as exercises, which most musicians of my age did.
I didn't realize it was evident in this stuff. I better get a bit more gritty.
Thanks

More, please! And thanks for explaining the right-hand fingerings. That's the most mystifying part, an no one else talks about it.
