  • The arrangement is overwrought for my taste, but the chorus sounds good. I noticed a few loose "t"s lurking about. It is such a beautiful song, it should have been arranged simply - especially with all those luscious chords Sondheim gave us. I believe it is completely acceptable and appropriate for a chorus to sing a song written for a single person. Greek drama is full of this notion, and it is so often practiced that I find this criticism ridiculous.

  • I had the privilege of singing this arrangement conducted by Page himself. I don't believe I ever got through the whole thing without getting emotional.

  • Wow. That's all I can say. It sounds enormously gorgeous in a chorus.

  • lovley

  • ubelievably gorgeous - exquisite. as ned rorem said, after hearing it sung at new york's YMHA during a sondheim interview, "that's the most beautiful song i've ever heard."

  • Hauntingly beautiful as a choral piece.

  • very beautiful. just posted it on my blog: (chicagotheaterblog[dot]com)

  • Interesting take. Everyone's entitled to their opinion...

  • Nice performance. Gorgeous, warm choral sound. Unfortunately, some songs just shouldn't be arranged for chorus. This piece is about one character's memories and recollection of a past life. Doesn't work as an octavo. It was also taken painfully slow. Love the song, and I appreciate the artistry of this chorus, but what a bad idea!

  • oh, well it was clean until the boys section and some of the "t"s, but still great

  • WOW! This choir is so clean, precise, perfect

  • i sang this for TN all-state... this is one my favorite songs! well done.
