actually is correct= air flows into a tornado. They do "suck." lol. What happens when you put ur finger over the opening on a hose? The water flow speeds up. In smaller places like underpasses; the wind speed can double.

It's true. Meteorologists think winds speed up when it comes to places like overpasses. I don't know if they are certain about this yet, or why it would do that, but that's what they are sayng.

The reason why is the wind tunnel effect. Further, hiding under an overpass gives you no protection. In may 3rd 1999 during the oklahoma city tornado outbreak several people were killed while taking "Shelter" under an overpass.

Further, no protection means you will get clocked by any debris.

Tornadoes suck up cars that are ahead of them with wind, slowing them down. Outrunning one is never guaranteed. They did the right thing, although over passes are usually not as protective as the one shown in this video, and this tornado was a rather weak one. Still, it was strong enough to destroy them in their car had it caught up with them.

i know common myths say to, but its not debris you're hiding from. The overpass acts like vacuum when the tornado passes overhead, sucking things out

you could see that in the vid at 1:02, watch the debris on the ground inside.

what you SHOULD do is lay down face down in the ditch beside the road, FAR away from your vehicle

as it WILL be tossed.

In everyday usage, vacuum is a volume of space that is essentially empty of matter and where they went IS the safest place to be the sides of the overpass has little lips to crawl into. Im not saying its the safest but the side of the road..come on. There is always falling debris and u have a more likely chance of getting picked up by it cause u have nothing to hang on to and the debris in which u speak of i didnt see ne thing more then some picked up rocks and dirt

@malpaul Depends your distance from the epicenter. If you're a good distance away, it'll shield your eyes and protect you from the blastwave throwing shit. So yeah, it probably won't help you in most cases but it does help.
