Iwan Fals is a modern day hero of Indonesia, through his songs, there was a chance to speak some truth during 33 years of Soeharto rule. Iwan Fals is a national hero, in the future I hope Indonesia recognizes how important Iwan has been in shaping modern day democratic Indonesia. Salam Reformasi!
A very true and honest opinion of yours. I also admire Iwan Fals and his amazing lyrics. I had a chance to meet him in Condet and chat with him for 4 hours in 1986, and I realized that he's the man of so many novel and unique ideas. He's a hero to the democracy of Indonesia, indeed. You are welcome. I was lucky to see him in concert in 1992, at Lebak Bulus in Cilandak. It was more like a riot than a concert, police and soldiers hitting people with big bambu sticks. Exciting but scary. (I lived in Jakarta 1990 - 96). Cheers!
