Its not a VHS tape, its a cassette tape, its dating G1 Transformers from 1984.

Besides, VHS tapes are not too bad, as data storage, they store 50GB, same as Blu-Ray. D-Theater VHS tapes from 1998 were 720p, some of the newer ones from 2003 had HDMI.

His robot mode is a panther in G1. He has no beast mode in BW b/c he's still the same character, just modified a bit.

Basically he goes from cassette tape to panther robot man.

Also, he does have a toy. It was a Japanese exclusive retool & repaint of Transmetal Cheetor. It doesn't look all that close to the CG model though.

and the original intention of the producers were put the music of G1 in this scene but it didn`t happen, i think that they don`t received the rights
