Geeze this video gives me chills....Two of the worlds most amazing psychonauts, each on a totally different end of the spectrum, just having a casual chitchat and stroll in a cemetery - discussing things that most of us will never get close to experiencing or understanding. Long live Sasha. Terrance RIP. Much love to everyone else!
I dont know why shulgin wants to isolate everything into synethicized experience... cant we just eat the whole organism to give us these compounds... why so particular? im scared of experiences from non-whole beings interacting with me and not a microsystem of such.
@sustainable2012 I would say that because this way, you only take what's pharmacologically necessary. It can be good, psychologically, to take the whole mushroom, for example, but makes no difference pharmacologically, if you only have psilocybin in the mushroom. Yeah, there is not only psilocybin but psilocin, baeocystin and norbaeocystin too, substances that may affect the experience.
If you're only interested in the mind of the mushroom, why take the whole body? ;)

It's like watching a couple of absolute morons.......really really old college kids having "existentialist" conversations.....they're both permanently brain fried and addicted to these drugs which aren't supposed to be addictive.
jim jones, adolph hitler, david koresh, charlie manson and terence mckenna: a persuasive rap and plenty of sheep willing to swallow it on their way to the slaughterhouse
This was interesting. Thanks for posting it. These two men are so different, but in a few ways much alike. The conversation was just cool to listen to.
I love the qualities of both of them. The quick speaker with mounds of potential knowledge ready to be spat out, and then the calm, collective speaker that thinks before he speaks to form the perfect question to be asked that needs no refinement.
Two of the most conscious down to earth people that probably spend more time unconscious in a psychedelic world.
Bravo... true pioneers... call it a curse, but I call it an adventure, and I wish I was bright enough to be part of these things :(
Their energy flow is fun to watch. in my opinion, terence was pushing him to talk about the struggle of being a "crazy person" and sasha was not having any of it, expressing the comfort of more or less omitting the strange functions of his brain to society. It helps for a public image and also at some point you realize that you're so far distant from the population in some way that you need to mask that facet of your personality from others. I love how they come together from that being cursed.
@MastersOfInfinity Yes. He wrote some very lucid books. eg. "Food of the `Gods" . -a scholar who could think way outside of the box of conventional history will always come up with the connections that those in academia either can't say or can't see. Drugs don't make you smart. But certain plant and molecular daemons can speak to other parts of your being that your ego normally holds in quarantine.
@brokenpremise drugs don't make you smarter but imo psychedelic's, especially LSD helps in great abstract thinking as you talked about and to me increases your overall thought rate and intake in general. The problem is jumbling through all the random access memory both conscious and subconscious in your head to actually achieve something you set out to study or achieve. Psychedelic's don't make you smart but there a great calisthenic for our brain in moderate use of course, imo.
@MastersOfInfinity aside from his schooling, he used the I-Ching to put together the timewave theory, which tracks our developments in life, and interestingly so, ends Dec 21st. 2012, and he did this without regard of the Mayan calendar at the time.
Shulgin enjoyed years of freedom to pursue his studies without interference from the U.S. government on what seems a tacit understanding that this be done without public fanfare. Two years after the publication of his tome "Pihkal - A chemical love story" in 1991 (sold at Virgin Records), the DEA raided Shulgin and revoked his license. I assume that Shulgin's decision to go public forever ended the hopes of anyone else with his talents and interests to be granted the privilege he enjoyed.
fascinating gentleman, mc Kenna also- like how he says were pioneers.....I consider myself to be in their club, having tried many tyryptamines and phenalamines in a scientific like study!! The medical research comunity needs to wake up and examine the benefits of these compounds.
So often we see him lecturing and teaching. It is really, really cool to see Terence, dare I say it, looking up to someone. One master learning from another.
What a pleasure to watch these two brilliant minds discussing , respectfully, the possibilities of what they have both had a hand in creating...thanks much, I love this talk!
Great video. I was amused at the difference in their speaking patterns. They're both so knowledgeable, but Shulgin talks about three times as fast. It's like watching a hummingbird and a halk fly together.
