  • One piece FTW! Glad your ok though.

  • Please kiss the ass of the persons on the pickup truck, black SUV, white nissan truck or SUV. they saved your life, for real, if i ever come off my V Stari want those people around!

  • Ptfffff, god saves? What a crock of shit. "god" couldn't keep a pair of chaps from getting sucked into a wheel. Glad this dude is okay, and I hope it never happens to me.

  • fucking great. for american heroes! glad to hear you're o'k. so what brand where those chaps and what should i check for? you know this vid is making me think twise about not having a back fender on my 1100 bobber.......... ride on bro!

  • Met you at strokers. And I'm glad!

  • wow impressive how many ppl stopped and looked after the chrashed one

  • Glad you are OK. But chaps? It's not a horse! Ditch them and get some proper armoured riding trou. They actually protect your arse.

  • Wow! Glad to know you're okay, man. Was with a guy on the highway when he went down and he wasn't so lucky.

    God bless

  • Man you are so blessed in so many different ways! 1 that white suv did not run over you. 2 the guy in the dodge.

    Just a sign God SAVES!

  • Wow... this brought tears to my eyes, what an incedible driver/person that pickup driver is. He saw you were in trouble and in a split second pull behind you in his truck to protect you and gave some info to the cops and went on his way. I would love to meet this guy/gal, I want to buy him and his family dinner and tell him he made this world a better place.

  • @bluerayray there are still a lot of good people out there that are willing to get involved.

  • It's funny how people tell you, you should have done this or that. It's easier said than done! Glad the rider is ok!

  • @mannheimschonau : thanks. I am glad someone out there understands.

  • Wow i hope you go over to the home of the guy driven that dodge pickup and mow his lawn. clean his pool. wash his truck.bath his dog.paint his house for him he saved ya life for sure. hell i myself would like to say thank you sir for stopping and getting involved i do believe you saved this guys life Bravo

  • @O7ROADKING I would if i could!!! he did not even get his name on the police report. That is one of the major reasons i posted the video. i wanted to find him. i owe him big time. I am going to repost the video and put "dodge truck" in the title in case he surfs stuff related to his truck.

  • @wylief150 ya maybe something like -------- Dodge pickup saves Motorcyclist -------- in the title thats a good idea go for it. and i hope your doing ok that looked like you went down hard. i still ride myself but i wear padded jacket pants boots gloves.im still wearing a half helmet but im looking into a Modula full face dont know if i can take the heat in the summer. if ya still riding ride safe

  • @O7ROADKING

I like your sense of humor. This video first brought tears to my eyes then after reading your comment I couldn't stop laughing.

  • It has been said but good reaction on the pickup drivers part. Scary makes me rethink everything Im wearing while riding now on.

  • Wylie, is that where you were coming from(?) I get down into Dallas occasionally; Glad you are OK but were the chaps ill fitting ? - or carelessly allowed to enter the wheel well? Also, at the instant the back wheel locked up, why did you let the rear end come around and high side you and catapult you off? I have 1 million miles and a few blown rear tires and lockups. Never been tossed like that. For future reference: keep everything from flapping. Everything. Chalk it up to experience....

  • @1962polarbear

Yes, the chaps were ill fitting. they were given to me. That was the first time I had gone over 45mph with them. Yes, it was a bad decision to wear chaps that were to big. They were flapping, and I started to feel them open up. I got off the gas to check traffic and pull over, but by then it was too late. I would not say I "let" the rear tire come around. When the chaps started to twist up in the wheel, it was trying to pull me off the bike. I tried to just hold the skid

  • @polarbear: ...... tried to hold the skid straight, but my body was getting pulled off the bike by the chaps until the seam tore. The pulling caused my weight to shift and that is why I could not hold a straight line. I have been riding since 87 and have had blow outs and lock ups. I know the drill. This was different. Since 87, that is the first time I put a bike down, and hopefully the last. And yes, I was coming from Wylie.

  • @wylief150 I just learned a lesson from you. Although HD chaps are expensive, I am going to pay the price and have them fitted at the dealer. I was thinking about going through Leatherup, but your lesson taught me a lesson. Hope you are doing better.

  • I drive over that spot almost every single day since I moved. Eep!

  • @LadyWeasel Me to. I look up at the camera and wave every time I go by now :-)

  • Wylie!!, I'm a fellow rider myself from Australia.Lucky you man! Also thanks to the pickup truck driver's quick thinking to keep you safe, Nice to see people actually stop and help out. I'm intrigued how you got this video from traffic authorities ;-)

  • @kevinbehbahany >>>>>>> it took about a month of me bugging them every other day to get me a coppy. finnaly, they got tiered of me asking and gave me the original. Hell, that happend just over a year ago. Dec 11 if I remember correctly,.

  • From Mpls, I've driven that route when in Frisco, & it's a little spooky on those extremely high curved bridges the first time.

    Glad your doing Ok wylie.

My strap was 1-1/2" wide nylon that 6" of it completely melted on the exhaust between it & the rear wheel of 1800Neo.

Had it been leather, it would of taken me down in a split second by 3" wide shoulder strap around my neck of leather sling bag.

Doing this sport for 40 yrs, nothing has spooked me more.

    Cheers

  • Obvious, that this motorbike driver wasn´t abel to "perform" basic biking-technologies.

Full brake on rear tire - maybe he was aroused from sleeping, or something trivial...

  • @freeclimb64 It is OBVIOUS you jump to conclusions. When the left chap got wound up in the rear tire, the force pulled the leg off the belt. The same force tried to yank me off the left side of the bike at 70 MPH. That porce pulled the entire bike to the side. If it was just a basic rear wheel lock up, it would not have been a big deal.... at least until the tire poped. You see 1 min of video and think you know everything about an incident??

  • @freeclimb64

Wow Dude, if you don't want a face full of shit, don't throw Oreo's in the sky.

  • @freeclimb64 Wow, this is the most careless comment ever i have read, read the description first before commenting !!

  • @kevinbehbahany Thanks man.

  • was this bike a hammer s as well? cant really tell in the video.

  • @djpowers007 Yes, the bike I crashed was / is an 07 Hammer S. Insurance fixed it and I am putting back the miles. Over 7K now since the accident.

  • whoah very lucky there mate. glad people stopped and helped out.

    hows the healing going?

  • @gwibo I am back 100%. I have got almost 7K miles on the bike since the doctor cleared me to ride back in Feb. They put a new 260 Metzler on the bike since I flat spotted the factory Dunlop. I am close to needing a new one!!!!

  • @wylief150 Glad to hear your all good, only just realised you got back to me as I have not checked messages etc in ages. I got knocked off twice in 2009 and still not back on bike yet, took a while to get fixed up but now surgery is over.

We need more people like that dodge driver over here as no-one helped at my first crash except the lady i got crushed against where as the one that hit me and crushed me into her stood giggling at side of road as i was loaded in ambulance >_<

  • Wow wylief150,

This almost happened to me the other day with belt that came undone from sling-bag.

I would really like the thank the Dodge truck owner as well.

    He undoubtedly saved your life.

  • @Philscbx I am real carefull now of ANYTHING that dangles in any way shampe or form. When I wear my back pack, I use those little black girl hair bungies to keep the lose ends of the straps from dangling.

  • Holy shit! That was REALLY hard to watch! :(

  • thumbs up to that Dodge driver! Glad to hear you are back riding!

  • That Dodge driver sure is a hero,

glad you're okay and still riding brother

  • Update: Never did find the driver of the Dodge. I hope some day he see's this video and gets a hold of me.

Any how, back on the road. Got almost 3000 miles on the Hammer S since the accident. Absolutely loving and appritiating every mile I put on the bike.

  • WOW! Good to here you are OK!

  • i wouldve found the CEO of the company who builds those chaps and whooped his ass..that being said glad youre doing well as is the bike i'm looking to get my first bike this week!! WOOT WOOT!!

  • I have been riding for over 20 years. It was the same back then. I started with full face. Now I swap depending on weather. My new full is a SHOEI RF1100. It is the best for side visibility that I could find. I use my mirrors for reference, then turn my head to verify it is clear before changing lanes. Will the full, I have to turn my head so far, my front view is obstructed a little. Will the half shell, I do not have to turn my head so far and have no front view obstruction

  • Chaps are for cowboys!

  • What happened, puncture or what caused the accident?

Looks like you braked so hard you locked up and lost control!

  • were you using an open fACE HELMET? if so did your face get banged up? i hate to ask this question but im just not shure what kingd of helmet that I should buy next.

  • I was wearing an Arai full face at the time of the accident because it was cold. Normaly I war a 1/2 or 3/4. No injuries to head or face at all. If I had my 1/2 or 3/4, my face would have been scraped up a little. Full is always going to be the best when it comes to crashing, however I do not like the lack of side visibility with the full face. Plus, full face are just to hot (for me) in the summer time. My new full is the shoei RF1100 diabolic revelation. Still have my 1/2 for the summer.

  • Another feature that you can add on to your chaps to make them more secure so they don't do this is to have a local shoe shop add a snap to the pull on the zipper that attaches to the leather at the bottom. This will keep the zipper down irregardless of whatever flapping they do.

  • Thanks. I have seen a few high dollor chaps that have that button on the zipper. Getting it done at a local shop would be much cost effective that spending 5 or 6 hundred bucks on chaps. thanks for the suggestion.

  • My opinion on freeway riding...ditch the flap chaps and go with a set of ballistic pants and jacket. Sure it will cost a little bit more than the bargain leathers but it won't put in a "bind" like the video we just saw. Plus they fit like a normal pair of jeans and don't make you look like you just left a PBR qualifier.

  • Wow bro you are one lucky sum' bitch. That guy in the truck definitely saved your life. We are all happy you survived what could have been a lot worse outcome.

Having said that.....the Victory Hammer you speak of....is this the same one in the video? It survived as well? If that's the case...pure craftsmanship there.

  • @caferacer1981 Yes, the Victory Hammer is the same in the video, and it did servive. In fact, it was ready to be picked up from the shop before I was well enough to ride her home. Had to get a friend of mine to ride her home for me. I now have almost 2K miles on her since the crash.

  • Kudos to the driver of the Dodge Ram that used their vehicle as a safety barrier for you.

  • Chaps are meant for horseback riding, not motorcycles.

Anyways- glad to see you're alive and well. Best of luck to you.

  • Glad yoiu came out ok! My zipper is blown and I guess I'll be replacing it with a top quality zipper for sure after seeing this video! Thanks for posting!!

  • Jebus... Good reactions by all involved.

  • Also after viewing this, I will now check the seams on every pair of chaps I own.

  • the guy in the pick up did exactly the right thing by stopping and blocking the traffic, most of the others did not have to stop and someone probably started directing traffic around the scene, at least that is what i would have done. Of course as a retired fire fighter my first thought would be the safety of the victim. Glad it turned out okay, good job nobody was tailgating you.

  • Agreed Smokey!

  • How fortunate that this was caught on video so you can see what exactly happened.

Also glad to know that a fellow rider is alive right now after something like that.

Were you knocked unconscious? I didn't see a lot of movement after the crash.

  • I was knocked out for a few minutes. I dont remember, but people at the sceen said I was asking about my bike and stuff like that. I think I was in and out of it until I made it to the hospital.

  • Were you wearing a helmet?

  • Yes, I was wearing my helmet. It was cold so I had my full face Arie. I now have a Shoei 1100, as well as my half shell

  • Glad your ok,, look at aerostitch. one piece.

  • Glad you're okay! How do you like your victory Hammer btw? My pops has a Vision and it's a great bike!

  • Love the Hammer S!!!!!! It is a great bike. It turns heads everywere I go. It has TONS of power (100 ci), and on top of that..... it rides GREAT!!! I will try make a short video of the bike once we get some sun shine down here.

  • wow...very lucky...glad you are ok.

  • Glad your ok, props to truck driver.

What the fuck is ERVERYBODY else doing....does the whole highway need to stop? Really? NO i dont think so.

  • Wouldn't you rather have everyone stop for you rather than speed by your unmoving body?

  • But you have to consider that with everyone stopped any emergency vehicles will have a difficult time getting to whomever is injured...

  • Agreed. All it does is cause a back up which will lead to fender-benders which is a waste of everyone's time. I'm not sure why those a-holes in the far lane find it necessary to stop, and then get out of their vehicles to run across the road unless they are a doctor or have emergency medical training. It most likely won't be helpful for any ground-based emergency response teams to have to deal with this pile up to get to the scene.

  • Glad you are okay.

    Props to the truck driver.

  • Man I am glad you are OK. Good on the dude in the Dodge pickup. BTW I am curious, how did you get a copy of the video?

  • @cushmanrider Not sure if I responded to your question. I had to bug the police department for almost two months before they would release the video to me. They had to wait to make sure there was not going to be any charges filed on anyone's part in the accident. The video would have been considered evidence at that point.

  • Glad you are doing better now! Amazing video and good lesson for everyone! Cagers and Cyclists!

  • Holy shit! Bad luck for the dude on the bike. AWSOME driving by the white car that reacted immediately to the situation. Definately was not on a cell phone! And how about the dumb asses in the far few lanes of traffic that slowed down for no reason and almost caused a pile up? Drivers need a reality check.

  • I am happy that you are OK. Man what great person in the truck that blocked the way!

  • Glad to know you are OK. Just a reminder that CHAPS are for riding horses not motorcycles. Chaps are snapped down the side and not solid protective equipment for motorcycling. They also leave you ass hanging out which is the part that is going to most likely hit first.

Ride Safe, Ride Often , Ride Safe.

  • Only a jackass who hasn't ridden would post something like that. Chaps zipper up the side and ARE protection in the case of a fall. Ask me how I know

  • I removed most of the argument. Lets all play nice. No, chaps are not solid protection, but hell, what is when on two wheels? I was only wearing them to "protect" me from the cold wind, however my leg that had the chap torn off got some road rash, but my right leg only got brused. As for my ass, not a scratch. PSMCN, (this is not a smart ass question, I want your honest opinion) what would you consider solid protecive equiptment for every day back and forth to work and running errands riding?

  • One piece leather suite, or leather overpants, or textile overpants. Toss a bag on the back and take your Dockers, Levis or whatever you wear to work, or leave them at work, as for shoes leave them at work or haul them with you. If you wear a suite change at work, and have a dry cleaning service that picks that stuff up come get it.

  • @wylief150

Glad u are okay dude. I guess not all cagers are bad lol. i wear helmet gloves armored jacket, jeans and riding boots when riding, always.

Get up and keep riding my man and be safe!

  • Yep, not all are bad. The lady that the bike hit came to the hospital and stayed there until my tests were ran just to talk to me. (thanks Lori) She reacted super quick and held my hand while I laid there until the ambulance took me away. Weeks later, we found out we work for the same company. Small world.

  • @wylief150

haha sounds like a cool lady. A girl that i knew in my class cut me off on the highway. the next day i had a little talk with her in class. Small world it is.

  • great to see your ok fellow rider.

  • having a brother that rides with chaps, how did they come apart?

  • The chaps were given to me. They were a little to big, but I did not think it was a big deal. The flapping (cause they were to big) caused the zipper to ride up. I started to pull over the moment they came apart. They flew back and got caught wound up between the rear brake rotor and the frame.

  • Moral of the story,,,,,,, Don't skimp on gear. Spend the money, and get what is rite for you. Proper fit is important.

  • Might I suggest you find your brain before posting....OFF LINE?

  • Hmm.. appears my post did not make it..

I said.. "so glad you survived to ride again!!"

  • Geez! I'm so glad that you even SURVIVED this! Lisa L.

  • Nice of the Dodge guy to stop but IMO he got too close. If he had gotten rear ended he would have ran over you himself.

  • @wakedude26 The truck looks like a lifted 2500 Ram which would way in at over 6,000 lbs. Unless he was hit by a dump truck that thing isn't moving.

  • Depending on how good thier camera is you might be able to get the plates and run them through DMV.

  • If the guy in the Dodge was in a Toyota instead, you wouldn't be so lucky!

  • HazCat - T, I am so glad you are ok!!! The angels and the dude in the Dodge were watching over you. :) See you in class!

  • The dude in the Ram is a quick thinker. I'm glad you're alright.

  • Wow..your lucky Dude...As a Victory Rider I can see you were alucky man...That Dodge truck was your saving grace!!

  • Dude in the Dodge was on the ball. I hope you're ok.

  • I am looking for the guy who was driving the Dodge. He saved me.

  • DAMN...that looked scary as hell. Glad you made it!
