Is it my distortion, or is it a common occurrence that when a politician takes the time to give in depth answers to important questions that few people actually listen? It is also true that when a politician gives an answer in the form of a political catch phrase without any substance that most people remember it and eventually base their voting decision on what they heard in that prescripted soundbite? If America isn't collectively suffering from ADD then why isn't Kucinich our president?

I have always felt that our founding father's took a view that while the government should acknowledge religion, it should never be forced on anyone whether in public office or not. This includes both faith and creed and lack thereof.

The official religion of this country is not Atheism, but instead there is no official religion. This must be understood by religious fundamentalists and atheist fundamentalists alike.

No, you've got it all wrong. The point is that he's free to express his belief that the principle of equal justice is "spiritual", and I'm free to express my belief that he's talking bullshit. You've made a very common mistake. You see, by arguing that his "spiritual beliefs" are nonsense, I'm not saying that he's not allowed to have them.

If you had said "He really had me impressed until that spiritual stuff at the end." it would have been better suited.

I don't think he is mistaken in reading the Const. and especially DoI as spiritual documents. You or I may be uncomfortable with the term, but these are documents under which our country was founded and is hopefully guided. The wording and philosophical concepts strike me as warranting the description. Self-evident truths, natural laws, created equal, are indeed spiritual, not necessarily religious. Any document that subscribes even to sanctity of human life theory has a spiritual element.

Well perhaps, but then he starts talking about the US having a possible "spiritual destiny" which I found a bit nutty and confusing. I like Kucinich, but sometimes I feel he can be a little insubstantial and wishy-washy. I'd like to know what he was talking about when he said that.
