  • Now I want to see the Japanese version too! It was a GREAT movie.

  • i watch this in japanese dub it was damn cool!!! i was in japan that time with my cousin in japan and also my 12th birth day it was like five days before this movie started and thumbs up if you like studio Jiburi's movie

  • Oh My Gosh!!! I just watched "The Secret World if Arriety" awhile ago , the english version, and it was AWESOME! it was bridgit mendler and david henrie. now i am going to read the book :))

  • so much better in Japanese. I hate dubbed movies... I wish they would show the original version in the US movie theaters with sub.... we can read....

  • What is the background song?

  • @Pepo4559

Arrietty's song (japanese version) by cecile corbel.

  • what's the name of the background music? Its so pretty

  • Studio Ghibli movies aren't being "made into Disney films", Disney just has the rights to the movie dubs when they move it over to America. As in, another studio isn't allowed to nab it up and give it their own dub and release it. Before Disney, 20th Century had the rights, that's why there are two dubs for Totoro and such. I don't know anybody who thinks that these are "Disney films", most people are aware of the fact that it's a Japanese animation that Disney has slabbed their protegees onto.

  • cant wait !

  • I thought "anime" was japanese for "cartoon"...

  • @xCatiePopx I thought "ignoramus" is synonymous with "idiot"...

  • @star1162 I'm sorry if my comment was vague, and maybe I am an idiot, but I was refuring to Japanese as a language. Personally, I think "Japanimation" is the only word that holds the seperation between animations in general and animations distinctly from Japan... Sadely, nobody really uses "Japanimation" anymore :(. There are no technical differences between anime and cartoons, just differences that society has made from generalizations and the common use of words.

  • I still wouldn't call this anime. It's like calling animated Disney films cartoons. BTW, the fact that I mentioned that Disney reproduces Miyazaki's films have nothing to do with the fact that they are not anime. When someone says anime, you think of naruto, you wouldn't think of this.

  • @pi99ylan6 it is anime. Anime is a different medium to tell a story. Yes, if you are calling anime a CARTOON, it is like calling Disney/Pixar's Toy Story a CARTOON. But most Disney animated features are CARTOONS -- Hercules, Mulan, etc. Just because someone ignorant thinks of Naruto when they hear "anime" doesn't mean they are right. Yes, we have seen Totoro and Spirited Away, because they are feature films does not make them not anime. Animatrix is CGI and is still in the ANIME genre.

  • @pi99ylan6 anime = japanese cartoons

  • @SilverDusk1 Anime = a different art form/medium to tell a story. Technically, Afro Samurai and Boondocks are anime and they are not Japanese.

  • @star1162 Afro Samurai made by Japanese. Bondocks made by american. Bondocks isn't even close to be called 'Anime'. it's a Cartoon.

  • it's neat that disney is taking an interest in anime and dubbing some

  • @SilverDusk1 IT's not anime. This is different...Studio Ghibli's films have been "adopted" by Disney for a while now. Anime is more like episodic dramas. Have you never watched Totoro or Spirited Away? Those are some of the films.

  • @pi99ylan6 It IS anime.

  • Comment removed

  • @pi99ylan6 Anime is MORE than episodic dramas. The definition of anime is Japanese animation. Therefore, anime can really be about anything; it can be about romance, comedy, action, historical fiction, philosophy, sci-fi, spirituality, anything. It's all limited to the imagination of the Japanese animators. I've seen a variety of anime, and so I know what I'm talking about. From the discussion, it seems you are only aware of mainstream anime, which means you are leaving out so much.

  • @SilverDusk1 Well, it's nice that they're taking an interest. Not so much that they are claiming it as their own. Have you seen the commercials? They say maybe once in one commericial that it's not theirs, and even then it's very well hidden.

  • The title is 【Arrietty's song 】!

  • What is the title of this song?

  • Just a little bit longer... can't wait!

  • My friends and I are gonna go watch it in theaters for our birthday's (we were all born the same month).Yeah so disney characters dubbed it, so what, the original japanese should still be in the DVD release. Thats how I see it. Plus each country shows their culture through the editing so of course they are different.

  • I'd much rather see this with english subtitles than dubbed. No offense to Bridgit Mendler and David Henrie.

  • @SunyiSideUp I agree! They are NOT anime actors

  • @SunyiSideUp I already seen in Eng Sub i can give a link. I also saw the Uk version English Dub too. Much better than NA version.

  • T______T Most beautiful movie ever-- Thank you GIbi/Miyasaki. Cannot wait to see the new one Poppy hill movie

  • Online : )

  • I am watching the United Kingdom version English Dub right now and then later on Japanese version with Eng Sub. I have to say the UK version beats the NA version. But Japanese version all the way!!!

  • ^^ whats the song playing?

  • I have the Japanese dub, but no DVD remote to put on subs e.e

  • they should release all the ghiburi movies in japanse with english subtitles! The Original is wayyyy better!!!

  • I'm mad that Joe Hisaishi isn't doing the music :(

  • This movie sucked sorry but it felt like a preview not a movie Japanese voices are better.

  • @liley59 I agree I was really excited to see this movie but when I finally did it was not that great I didn't get the point of the movie every studio ghibli film has a deep meaning to it and this one was just average. When it finished I was like is that it what was the point of it. They have really lost their magic studio ghibli unfortunately ponyo was a dissapointment their truly last great movie was howls moving castle.

  • @danger7x7 it's different, mostly because miyazaki didn't direct this one like most of the others. however he DID write some of the scripts.

P.S. if you watched the english dub version, I can understand. but I don't share that opinion with the japanese version.

  • great america takes a movie and slabs disney as the creator, Now 3.8/4 of america will think that disney created this movie, Just like spirited away

  • @neoneo23 Yup. All though idiots out there. Especially the ones calling this a cartoon

  • 0:37 THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID!!! HAHHAHAHAHAHA

  • I cant believe they turned this into a disney movie

  • @ymjh1999hollero ugh i know right! i think studio ghibli and disney have some type of buissness deal thats prob why ponyo and other studio ghibli films were made into disney films :( ... its just sad

  • @KichieMan sad that people in America get to watch it? Sad that Disney is making Studio Ghibli tons of money? Sad... sad my ass.

  • Hahahahah I've already seen the movie in Japan when it first came out about 1year 1/2 ago!!!

  • Arrietty won't be the same without Joe Hisaishi's music :(

  • @coPurple11ok ikr :(

  • japanese is always best because cheesy lines in english sound awkward

  • @ItchiiRoku I am all for original Japanese dubbing. But, in recent times, most studios have taken the time to have proper Japanese to English translation, so that nothing is lost in translation. Watch "The End of Evangelion" film with the commentary on, and you will understand what I speak of. They take the time to diligently translate the script. The cheaper ones or cartoon network looking to make a quick buck, just translate series so that they can have a general audience watch.

  • The Japanese love adapting classic books from English/French/Greek authors and turn them into manga and anime.I enjoy Japanese versions of The Little Prince, Belle & Sebastian, Ulysses 31, Mysterious Cities Of Gold, The Little Mermaid, and Ringing Bell. And there's also a place for both subbing and dubbing. As Arrietty is aimed at people under 10 or so, this age group cannot read subtitles properly and meand dubbing is the only option.

  • Arrietty is showing here in Australia in both English dubbed and in Japanese with English subtitles versions. For children under 13, the dubbed version is the only choice. People under 13 do not have the ability to view a constant moving image and read subtitles properly. The major megaplexes only offer the dubbed version while the "arthouse" cinemas offer both versions. Personally, I prefer dub over sub anyday.

  • @darkangel2347 pardon me, but it sounds like your making a scientific statement. I'd consider "People under 13 do not have the ability to view a constant moving image and read subtitles properly. " a generalization. I was able to when I was 12, but alrighty.

  • now i know the reason behin all my missing stuff....

  • You know what, I'm going to be watching the original one instead of the English one. Seriously the cast that was chosen for the dub is horrible, and they're from Disney which I'm not very fond of.

  • @maychanx31 have fun understanding it

  • @geecome I'm going to try and find a subtitled version. -_-

  • @maychanx31 ok

  • @mvang01 Yeah, I know, but I've been too busy to see it.

  • i wish it could be in theater in Vietnam :(

  • I can't wait to see this!!!!! Although the US cast is shitty... Ah well, I'll just go find the dubbed version then!

  • @HimenoSuna Dude, this movie has been out for a while now :)

  • @Hikari6050 ikr

  • @HimenoSuna sorts of things. And the professor that pointed all that out to me has been teaching for about 30 or so years. I'd say that's a credible enough source, wouldn't you?

  • @PsychoJosh Are you really that ignorant? I've looked at your comments here where you said that Disney doesn't have sexual innuendos (or something along those lines) and I have a question for you. Did you know that the ORIGINAL Disney movies are filled with innuendos? Ex: The Little Mermaid. If you watch the original VCR version, you'll notice MANY innuendos, along with the first Aladdin. As for how I know this, I took a class last year on TV and radio, and there was an entire section on these

  • i cried in the end idk why. it's just so beautiful

  • Never got into the Borrowers.

  • STUDIO GHIBLI'S DOIN' IT AGAIN! XD

    Their awesomeness never dies!

  • what is the song playing during this?

  • @MuseofLullabys Arrietty's Song - Cecile Corbel. Disney didn't use it. :(

  • i saw the american voice and they did not play this beautiful song..

i heard a song that sounded like it was sung from coldplay

i hope she sings it in english cause i saw that she spoke in english!

they better not get rid of this song which is clearly about the main character

  • When I first saw the trailer for this (it was the Disney version), I was über excited. At first, I recognized the animation style. Then the dialog and images seemed so familiar. I couldn't believe my eyes. I just kept saying, "No. They can't be doing this. This has to be a dream." The moment they said the word "Borrowers", I nearly jumped out of my seat to see if there was any way to reserve a ticket this early. I'm definitely going to see this. Now to find a date.

  • I loved this movie <3

  • I was wondering how the original trailer looked like and I like this one more (than the Disney one). This one is more dramatic. The other one was too happy and seems Americanized. This one really showed the tensions in the film, while the other one seemed to hide it. Still going to see it in theaters. :)

  • The father is like Liam Neeson.

  • :D The anime is amazing! I wish they made another movie about it!

  • original japanese audio is the best

  • @Pichu0123

    You are d*** right >: D

  • I never liked dubbed. its so fake and not original. original is the best ! it makes the movie pure and the best to watch ! i love all movies from Studio Ghibli <3

  • @aggiewu96 i usually agree, but Disney has been doing an amazing job dubbing Ghibli films for a while now

  • @aggiewu96 I never liked subbed, i find it less immersible. But the Japanese voices actually do sound a lot better in this, and makes it seem more epic lol.

  • @aggiewu96

    I don't like the American cast either >: D

  • @aggiewu96 soooooo true!!!

  • always love ghibli movies

its somthing else only who watch films of ghibli know it

    (^^)> waiting

itts publish by disney but all thing arts same the legend ghibli films

  • Comment removed

  • Has no one noticed this is very similar to the american film 'the borrowers' unless it is loosely based on it of course. However it does look interesting...

  • @MollyMangaka Both this and the live action film were based off the same book - The Borrowers by Mary Norton. So the book came before either film! I just watched this animated one this evening - it was really pretty.

  • I'm so excited fhdkjahfjahfjdsa i cant even. but i will wait for however long i need to to watch this with subs btw who's the guy in the corner at 0:50

  • yay!!!!! ;D looks like this movies related to the borrowers movie in vhs but looks more interesting.

  • wow :O looks cool

  • all most of all studio ghibli movies has original work.

this original work is "the borrowers"written by mary norton,UK.

this movie is going to be reliesed by Disney ,2012,2,17

  • You know, the problem I have with most anime is that every single mangaka and anime director seems to find it okay to just use their works to masturbate with. It's no secret that they always sneak in their fetishes, their deviant fantasies, their teary-eyed bedtime passions into their work. They always place members of the opposite sex on pedestals, playing them up as symbols of perfection. Yet, people tell me this isn't the case with Ghibli movies... they couldn't possibly be more wrong.

  • @PsychoJosh

Shut the fuck up. Why should anyone listen to someone called "PsychoJosh" anyway? Don't be a freak and talk about that kind of stuff on a trailer for a children's movie.

  • @NicolaAlexandrovna Yeah, "children's movie"... keep telling yourself that dipshit. Idiots like you are just completely satisfied to live their lives in total ignorance, aren't they?

  • @PsychoJosh

People like yourself always try to spoil movies such as this because of their unproven theories about artists and directors they know NOTHING about. So go ahead and babble about your disgusting ideas (perhaps you're the one with the odd fetishes and strange mind) but don't expect anyone to change their mind because of you. Just because you're stuck on the subject of sex doesn't mean the world is as well. I know you've been in a dry spell your entire life but grow up.

  • Comment removed

  • @NicolaAlexandrovna LOL you are a fucking imbecile beyond any hope whatsoever if you're unable to recognize the subdued creepiness and implications in ALL of Hayao Miyazaki's movies. I never said anything about sex. I was making a point about deviant, decadent fantasies that unscrupulous authors shoehorn into all of their work .Miyazaki has a very clear lolita complex and always places little girls on a high pedestal as braindead ingenues; for you to deny it shows that YOU know nothing.

  • @PsychoJosh

"...Use their work to masturbate to... bedtime passions". Oh yes, you NEVER mentioned ANYTHING about sex. Ha, whatever helps you to sleep at night, freak.

  • @NicolaAlexandrovna I never said "use their work to masturbate to" you illiterate retard. I said "use their work to masturbate WITH". They persistently manipulate their works to fulfill their own decadent fantasies, using it to express their deviancy in a way that would otherwise remain dormant in their minds. It doesn't have to be purely sexual, it just has to be a deviant attraction. A lolita ocmplex is exactly this. You're an idiot, though, so I dunno why I bothered to explain this to you.

  • @PsychoJosh

How does "with" and "to" change the intent of your statement? And obviously you haven't watched all that much Studio Ghibli. Porco Rosso, Princess Mononoke, My Neighbors the Yamadas, Howl's Moving Castle, and Pom Poko are a few of the many movies he made that did not involve children. But whatever, if you're intent on finding perverted subjects in his works than that obviously reflects your own inner sexual frustration. Get a girlfriend little boy

  • @NicolaAlexandrovna "Did not involve children" LOL you're an idiot. All of them involved teenage girls in some way, especially Mononoke, Howl and Porco. They don't have to be sub-13 to classify as lolita and even if your statement were true it would be irrelevant because all the girls are excessively young. And the use of different pronouns COMPLETELY changes the context of my statement, the fact that you can't see this shows that you are merely an illiterate shithead who can't apply scrutiny.

  • @PsychoJosh

    Whatever you say <3

  • @NicolaAlexandrovna Nice. That simple three-word comment shows more brain power than you've displayed at all in your previous comments while simultaneously proving that you have no argument. Oh well, enjoy your lolicon movies dumbass.

  • @PsychoJosh Ok. Bye, dude.

  • @NicolaAlexandrovna You know Josh is trolling you, right?

  • @AkutomiNamikaze

Yeah, but it's kind of fun to play along sometimes. But I guess I broke the #1 rule, don't feed the trolls. Oh well.

  • @NicolaAlexandrovna Gotcha; just makin' sure.

  • @AkutomiNamikaze I'm not doing any such thing. You simply believe "oh Ghibli movies are infallible there's no way anyone could possibly hate them".

  • @PsychoJosh I just thought you were trolling because I've never seen so vivid about how much they dislike something.

  • @AkutomiNamikaze So that makes it in your mind a total impossibility? I understand the thought process that goes into making these, which is why I hate them the most.

  • @PsychoJosh But here's the dirty little secret of the internet: no one cares who you are or what you think, so quit while you're behind.

  • @AkutomiNamikaze Obviously that's not true since you and several others wouldn't have bothered replying at all if it were. I know somebody's full of shit when I see it :J

  • @PsychoJosh Whatever you want to believe, man.

  • @AkutomiNamikaze Hahahaha you're so full of shit, I love it.

  • @PsychoJosh WHAT. EVER.

  • @PsychoJosh Give a specific example of one studio Ghibli film which portrays such.

  • @Sarathevamp Every single one that has a little girl as its main character.

  • @PsychoJosh Than you have to include quite a few disney movies and the story little red riding hood, rather rude that you say it only about anime.

  • @Sarathevamp No. This is something exclusive to Miyazaki movies. Disney movies do not have this problem. It is correct that I only say this about Ghibli films because Disney movies are made by committees of marketing people rather than being purely from the mind of one specific person.

  • @PsychoJosh So because Disney movies are dreamed up by a group of people rather than a single person, they are more valid and utterly devoid of innuendo, as opposed to if the same thing were to come from a single person, for then it would be automatically sexual in nature, rather than something like female empowerment and knowledge of what will sell. Think about it: how many people, no matter their given age, look anything other than childlike or old? It seems to me the work of drawing style.

  • Comment removed

  • @Kalinamin That's not what I said at all. I never said that Disney movies are devoid of innuendo. The point you completely missed was that if a work comes from the mind of a single person with deviant fancies, then they will always see fit to manipulate the work in a way that satisfies their infatuation. If Miyazaki didn't have a lolita complex then he wouldn't always epitomize little girls as being permanently beautiful symbols of innocence and potential. He NEVER challenges this cliche.

  • @PsychoJosh

You don't find ghibli characters to be simpler in complexion and more average looking than the Disney princesses? I find that ghibli animes focus more on the characters' experiences than the characters themselves. There are usually no fairies that magically come out to save their lives. Characters find solutions to problems themselves. I am not sure where you feel characters are placed on pedestal or are sexually portrayed.

  • @bananian So simply because they ignore the infantile tropes of Disney movies (which are designed specifically by marketing people for children ages 12 and under), that makes them worthy of respect? Oh look, they DON'T follow the easily-avoidable cliche of fairy Deus Ex Machinas, for that they deserve praise to the highest extent! Such a flimsy argument, not even worth another word.

  • @PsychoJosh

well yeah, cliches and des ex machinas are boring. I am just a layman who wants originality and entertainment. I am not the smartass trying to nitpick some freudian principles out of movies because they aren't made in America.

  • @PsychoJosh

and how are Disney female characters not placed on a pedestal? They are also innocent plus they are all princesses. Disney romanticizes the upper class as the holy grail, the happy ending, not just being well off, but being THE richest of the kingdom, the most beautiful. How shallow is that? What's that teaching our children?

  • @bananian Um, yes, I never said they weren't. I am not defending Disney movies in any way yet you continue arguing on the assumption that I am. I dislike Disney movies but Ghibli films are guilty of many other things in my eyes that I cannot abide either.

  • @PsychoJosh listen, dude it is simply a matter of perspective, i guess you are not a film maker thus you will never understand the concept of artistic license. You are completely missing the point here, i doubt you have even seen any ghilby film and with only your premature evaluation to trust you claim something to be a cliche. Your sexual innuendo only shows your own prejudice which you blame Miyazaki for, all because it's not american.

  • @carnage2112029 You are a presumptuous idiot and that comment was so biased and full of ignorant assumptions that it is not even worth constructing a lengthy reply to.

  • @PsychoJosh i cannot help but say "LOOK WHO'S TALKING", i don't see where's the bias & ignorance is. What i commented was on the basis of what i saw in both disney and ghilby films. I'll still say u are missin the point. If u have seen films & other mediums of entertainment media, then u can come to see that their are many other artists and filmakers who use the same concepts and charaters, & i don't think ur mindset is justified in making people think othrwise

  • Comment removed

  • @carnage2112029 So what? You're completely missing the point of my posts which is to say that little girls are always idealized and put on a pedestal in Ghibli films because of the filmmaker having an infatuation with little girls. The fact that other studios portray little girls as ingenues does not justify this cliche and is completely irrelevant to this conversation. I have substantial evidence that supports Miyazaki having a lolita complex.

  • @PsychoJosh wat you are trying to say is, because Miyazaki uses 'the ingenue' he is a pedophile & what i'm tryin to say is that he uses it because its his creative license. So u are saying, that if a person concentrates on a singlular concept he is bound to be a pervert.i'm a guy & i'll say that is serious male chauvinism & if you are saying that you will ignore a mastrpiece of a film because u think the filmaker is a pedophile then i don't think that is 'evidence', that is prejudice

  • Comment removed

  • @PsychoJosh u proved it urself that u have a serious prejudice, bcoz american stigmata on such issues brings social repercussions and we don't see it in the US u like many other short sighted people tend to believe that if a society has a certain backdraw anything concerned to that society will be a taboo. I don't think i'll be able to change ur view since u r too stingy in having a broad mindset......

  • @PsychoJosh i think i have sufficient knowledge of miyazaki's works to know that not all of his works concern girls, and bcoz his more known works concern girls is the only reason you have come to your premature evaluation.

  • @PsychoJosh & if u can't reply then u have sunk too much in ur prejudice

  • @PsychoJosh First, Miyazaki and other filmmaker may or may not have the lolita complex but who cares. Second, most of the ghibli films is from books other people has written you know? This one, howls moving castle and others is just adaptions of books who already existed so even if he changed some stuff around in the script the "girls on pedistals" were already in the story.

  • @xSandraNoSekaix I love it, you just summed up my statements regarding the ignorance and apathy of Miyazaki's fans when it comes to him being a lolicon. It just demonstrates what terrible people you are. "Oh I don't care that this guy makes a living peddling his contemptible paraphilia." Miyazaki is in charge of actually selecting the ones that are written and almost EXCLUSIVELY chooses only the stories that have young girl protagonists in them. Other stories exist you know.

  • @PsychoJosh even tho i believe ur views on miyazaki are for maligning purposes, i don't think people watch something on the basis of what the creator is like, i believe an art represents itself & not the creator, if u don't believe so, then wat was ur thoughts when u saw the film & only the film not ur short sightedness, if you still have doubts then u my friend are officially 'prejudiced'.Toshio Suzuki & Isao Takahata are also concerned when choosing the works, thus u are ignorant

  • @PsychoJosh I'm not terrible for thinking that at all! I accept all "sexuallities" even lolicon! If they get off on little cartoon girls and boys, Let them! It's much better then them going and raping real children! cuz NO ONE can change what turns them on! Even if they like women, men, feet and so on. Thats why I think lolicon and such things are great cuz it lets people who like that stuff get what they want and no one gets hurt! So even if Mr.M is likes that, he makes great films!

  • where can i watch this movie online? can u tell me plez?

  • is this like based off a book? i think i've heard of it somewhere

  • the boy is uber hot! *w*

  • I would love to see this anime!

  • what is the song in the background??? because i really like it :)

  • This trailer is much more serious than the American one...

  • STUDIO GHIBLI FILMS OHH GAWDJPISDGJPISDJGISDH;JADV

  • sweet animation is sweet

  • 1:19

They used the wrong form of "to."

  • @Pentophobic101 and we're apparently human beans at 0:43

  • @everybody, you can get the subbed version at nyaatorrents. :D dubbed version sucks anyway, why wait?

  • It seems a lot like the books I read as a kid, "The Borrowers", only they had tails.

  • @kittenfly8230 it is based off that book, if you look it up.

  • @AdiposeIndustry13 Ohhhhh.

  • what's the song's name?(:

  • 9 people got their items borrowed and never returned.

  • interesting...i nvr saw this one b4 o.o

  • @SapphireDreamz103 It came out in 2010

  • love the song!
