I got a real THICK headed friend that says BLACK SABBATH is not heavy...is so sad because his brian can wrap around they fact that is the 60's nothing sounded like this (B. Sab.) I tell him you got to really think abount the time this came out......but he cant get it, its like he is so over sensitized by all the digital punched in guitars that can be unlimited takes and triggered drum kits. I try
explaining that in the 60's and 70's they used reel to reel recording tape and in order to "punch in" back then you would have to physically cut the tape and glue it back together very cafully because it cant be off by even a little or you will here it. Well all the recording process is digital now, cit and paste is extremally easy. So bands now aday can make their album sound amazing cause they have unlimited takes because of the digital abilities of punching in. In the old day bands would
go in and record one or two takes trying to capture the "magic" and then pick from the seleted takes. What a different world from then and now, I think this is why we see 2000 plus albums come out a week, but not many real good live "magic" making performers...long rant I'm sorry I just started it and I felt I mine as well get it all out.
10:58 March 19th was the day Andy Died. (if you know about illuminati numerolgy then this may interest you, if not keep sucking on you bottle its a nice nap)..... (google) Operation Odyssey Dawn; An Illuminati Mega Human Sacrificial....In this analysis I will connect March 19th eerily to human sacrifice.
MLB is def the anchor of Seattle sound. but I would argue one fine point with you on who "started" this sound. Perry Farrell and Jane's Addiction's XXX label debut album in 87. Maybe it's just me but I hear Farrell imitated not only in Wood's sound but Layne's and Wieland's also. Long live Mother Love Bone, if you dont know who they are, you dont know much about rock music imho.
Constantly played nirvana videos and covered Kurt's death 24/7 so of course everyones gonna say nirvana cause that's what they know. I was crushed when Kurt died but I'm sorry, give me back Layne Staley any day. AIC is tops for me from anywhere in the country. And I like a lot of eras but their up there for me in any era. Good job on the documentary man. It's all facts and opinions and you stated both
@kinochdotcom why dont you start singing, you know Sully is no Layne but thats who he says was his biggest frontman insperation. Sorry freind Layne is with Jimi, Bonam, Moon, Kossoff, Cobain, Joplin, Morrison, Burton and many others.
Hey man, nice job. There's always gonna be criticism on here and at least these criticisms are legit and it's not a bunch of young punks with no lives trying to shit up. Everyone seems knowledgable in their arguments. This facts and opinions. I think a lot people argue this because MLB were obscured at this time and once Andrew died the scene took off. I'm a fan of every band in this documentary and am also a big nirvana fan but why are they number 1? Because MTV when it did play music constant
Seattle scene worships Andrew Wood for being a Seattle rock star. That said, as politically incorrect as it is to say, heroin did not ruin the music that came out if Seattle...it more accurately created it.
I completely agree about Andrew Wood. He was the one. But I've gotta give a huge shout out to Layne Staley. He was my favorite 90's singer. The best voice. Seems like every one of them was taken from us.
Here is teh thing, man. I love MLB and Wood. But this is simply not true. Aic was formed one year before MLB and their first record Facelift were released about the time time that Apple was. But due to a conflict with the record label Facelift took really long time to get released even though it was done for quite some time. SO Facelift (which is an amazing record and huge influence for other grunge artists) was not inspired by MLB. And as you mentioned Soundgarden and Mudhoney was also before.
Maybe if people would spend more time reserching the History of the U.S.A and how Andrew Jackson defeated the 1st NATIONAL BANK. 77 yrs later the 2nd National Bank was set up. Its called the FEDRAL RESERVE. Its not run by the U.S government its run by INTERNATION BANKERS. You people need to wake up.
@kinochdotcom hey at least you know, its not really as funny as it is sad. Live Free of Die my Friend, Say NO TO ACTA. The NDAA has turned the U.S in to a facist nation, people need to wake up and pay attention to these rich people NO BODY elected that make laws to protect their money that end up effecting us all. I love mother love bone, by the way. Love a respect brother, I would lay down my life for you and I dont even know you thats how much of a fine american I think you are.
Come on down was on Homestead records. not sub pop..as a matter of fact you are all over the boards in this Doc...The Umen and 10 minute warning influenced Gossard,..They are probably way more influential on grunge than Andy or Love Bone.
nirvana had its first hit in 1989. The album is bleach. Its really good. The first half of the album are amazing grunge songs then the last half was more metal. check out the song love buzz. "blew" or "love buzz" are the most popular songs on the album bleach. Better than any of your buddy Andy Wood's crap.
@dhartmiester HA-HA are you serious? Have you even heard the Mother Love Bone record? To say that Bleach is a better record is outrageous. Nirvana is not the best band of the 90s they´re kind of overrated even if I like them. Aic is the best.
@csmzcs who rated nirvana in any circumstance for you to consider them overrated? This is a preference so obviously we wont go anywhere with suggestions of bands. I like nirvana for its dark rock sound, melodic metal tempo, and obviously the lyrics and vocals. My interest in nirvana is seperate from the rest of grunge because them and soundgarden were the first bands i heard and appreciated as a child. I was in elementary school so i have a sentimental bias toward them. 90' s child
LOL then I guess you didn't listen. My last words are "If you wanna talk about how the 90's started, and grunge started......you gotta START with Andrew Wood. As for my facts...... what did I say that was wrong? Were all those songs not about Wood? Was Nirvana a band when Deep Six came out? Were some of the biggest bands and songs POSSIBLE without Woods death? That FACTS say the answers NO and that's the purpose of this video
I think you need to get your facts straight Randy616. Andy Wood wasn't the reason grunge hit it big. There were oth influences. Nirvana, Soundgarden even Alice in Chains had albums out before Woods even hit Mother Love Bone. The reason grunge made it big was because of a copious amount of bands called the Seattle scene. I'd suggest you take your AC/DC Tshirt and go back to the 70's and learn a little about music history before you post crap like this. And your a DJ? Your no Allan Cross.
Nice documentary. Looking back, MLB was the first band from the Seattle scene that I heard of. I think I first heard of them through a magazine article. I did not hear of Nirvana until a few years later. Hard to believe so much great music came from a single place. Still listening to it twenty years later.
Brian, Thank You. Back in the day I did some of the security work for Mother Love Bone among others. And your explanation of the music industry and it's progression in the early 90's is spot on. Andy was an amazing vocalist and songwriter, but more than that a tortured human, with an amazing Soul and I hope that one day I get to see him again in Heaven. Your video brought back a lot of memories, and the pain of losing a friend, a reminder to live life the right way, and take nothing for granted.
Never really thought of Andrew Wood that way, but it makes sense. I absolutely wish he wouldn't have died. It would have been an amazing ride for sure...
Small trivia moment you missed. Greg Gilmour, the drummer in MLB was in Ten Minute Warning with Duff McKagan.
MLB really ARE the mid point between 80's LA Cock Rock and 'Grunge' (i fucking hate that term btw. How can bands as diverse as the 90's Seattle crowd be lumped together under such a generic catch all term?)
I knew what was gonna happen while watching this, can't f'ing stop crying right now. I was working in a record store during the years where all this took place. I was blown away by the Deep Six CD. Had the pleasure of meeting/seeing Andy play live only once with MLB, but he was nothing short of amazing. Being a Rhoads fan too, I was already sad in remembering his passing on that day, so hearing the news about Andy then was too much for me. I forever want to erase March 19th from the calendar.
snukes the whole point is to show what NO ONE talked about. The others influences? Explained to death. Woods life and death influenced and caused the creation of the songs, bands and movies that defined the 90's. This was done to show how a lot of this stuff got started. I didnt say he created Nirvana, cause that's false, but his impact was much larger than many people realize.

because of wood one of the biggest hits in the 90s was created far behind especially that song tells you how devestated the seattle scene was after andy passd
AMEN!!!! Great Video!!!! I remember hearing on MTV news the day Andrew Wood died. It wouldn't be untill later, watching the crappy movie "Singles" with an awesome soundtrack, that I would get in to MLB, which led to buying albums from Green River, Malfunkshun, Temple of the Dog, Pearl Jam, etc... Andrew Wood is a legend in my book and a tragic life that will be missed in the music scene.
Brother I appreciate the compliment. I can point to one specific moment that inspired me to do this. Being laid off at the moment gave me some time on my hands but back in October, I attended the final Pearl Jam concert at the Spectrum and they did Crown of Thorns. 41 songs later, that concert ran a little longer than I would have liked, but I immediatley dusted off my Apple CD when I got home. I'm sorry you had to sit through Singles lol. I'm glad people remember Andrew Wood
