@Claronium780 the problem is that you start allowing the government to limit free speech in one case because you don't like it, then they start putting limits in things you care for and you're gonna be upset. it's not like this hasn't occurred before. i think WBC is just as insane and horrible as you do, but i'm not for the restricting of their free speech even if it is hateful.

Free Speech is great, until it comes into conflict with the pursuit of happiness, which this incident did. It came in the way of disturbing the mourners rights. Hate Speech is NOT Free Speech, it conflicts with other people's rights. That's what Claronium780 was getting at.

I disagree. Many people think that stone age people "cared about the species as a whole", which they didn't. They had instincts, such as being attracted to stronger and smarter people, which helped our species survive. But they didn't actually "care" if someone was gay or "threatened the species".
They only cared about their own family, like people today
E.G., evolution is the reason why straight people outnumber gay people but it doesn't explain homophobia because noone back in those days actually worried about "our species", "cave men" didn't think that deep into it, people just had primitive urges that they followed but there was no thinking involved.

@Poochalot Nate Phelps and his older brother had it bad. He was beaten almost every day with the handle of a pickaxe. He was whacked 30 to 50 times when he was beaten. Fred Phelps said that he needed to do it because the Bible says to give discipline to your children. But that's not discipline, that is abuse. Discipline is teaching your kids right from wrong; not beating them in the name of the lord. But he is Atheist now and has barely to no contact with his family now.

In the rest of the developed world inciting hatred of any kind isn’t tolerated, yet we all support freedom of speech. So where you live, are you allowed to yell at someone who breaks into your house? Or do you get sued for causing emotional distress to the burglar by yelling at him?

@KingRadbadical1988 We don't sue where I come from, our legal system doesn't allow for it. There are also against burning any nations flags (not sure about religious books though). I hear you stating that you're in favour of the right to freedom of speech, but surely there comes a point where hate speeches and actions in themselves incite hatred, bigotry and intolerance. And I find that unacceptable.

@Poochalot I'm not gay OR against homosexuality. But I must disagree, I'm sure not ALL homophobic people are "secretly gay" because noone can just make blanket statements like that without proving them to be 100% true.
However, I notice that 80% of them are. I actually do believe that 80% of homophobic people are gay. But there's still the other 20%...
Some "liberals" will say "everybody has had a gay thought at least once" but I disagree because I'm 23/haven't had one yet (no reason to lie)

I disagree. Many people think that stone age people "cared about the species as a whole", which they didn't. They had instincts, such as being attracted to stronger and smarter people, which helped our species survive. But they didn't actually "care" if someone was gay or "threatened the species".
They only cared about their own family, like people today

E.G., evolution is the reason why straight people outnumber gay people but it doesn't explain homophobia because noone back in those days actually worried about "our species", "cave men" didn't think that deep into it, people just had primitive urges that they followed but there was no thinking involved.
Also, I read somewhere that homosexuality helped in evolution but I don't know how.

I'm surprised the police protect them. This would be one of those REALLY hard cases where you have to not let your personal beliefs interfere with your work. @Poochalot Nate Phelps and his older brother had it bad. He was beaten almost every day with the handle of a pickaxe. He was whacked 30 to 50 times when he was beaten. Fred Phelps said that he needed to do it because the Bible says to give discipline to your children. But that's not discipline, that is abuse. Discipline is teaching your kids right from wrong; not beating them in the name of the lord. But he is Atheist now and has barely to no contact with his family now.

@as11188888 I had heard that at least 2 of them had left that cult, and they've spoken up about the abuse. Fred should have been put in a jail cell a long time ago. It's one thing to teach your kids rights from wrong, it's another thing to traumatize them in the name of some magic man in the sky. I was raised to believe in all that horseshit, and have walked away from it as well, I'm much happier being an atheist.
