  • Wow!

Taking the elephant down with just one bolt. I must say I'm both surprised and impressed.

  • That was awesome.

  • ALL TREE LOVIN HATERS READ THE LAST PART OF THE DESCRIPTION

  • one crossbow bolt took an elephant? ...now thats impressive

  • Did you ever recover the bolt that got buried inside the elephant? I imagine that would make for a good trophy or keepsake, kind of like saving a lucky bullet shell.

  • This sort of hunting puts money in the local community, it's strictly regulated by wildlife officials, there is no way you can compare this to poaching! Elephants destroy farmland and they kill people every single year.

The only thing that made me have second thought about this hunt was the use of a crossbow. I now have no doubt that as long as the equipment is properly maintained and the hunter is aware of his limits and confident in his own skills, this hunting is both responsible and humane!

  • man one shot with a arrow !! great shooting>>>

  • this story was written in the latest south pacific bowhunter magizine in australia absolutely awsome read and to think they where charged by another elephant only a few days prior for no reason other then it was hormonally charged. absolutely brilliant great job and excelent shot

  • More people Ned to hunt with classic weapons these days. Its twice the rush and it helps to shut the hippies up. TERRIFIC SHOT THOUGH

  • wow if you can drop an elephant with a crossbow then theres nothing that thing can't do. nice shot man. very well done. that thing is massive.

  • @rrrrrrr796 Besides the bad name vegetarian wankers give bows they do a good job on just about anything. The bigger the game the longer it will take to go down. Its a good thing that there are no pain receptors inside the body for sharp objects, they only feel a paper cut on the skin.

  • you could make a jacket out of those ears

  • imagine how much he paid to do this.....

  • This is a great video.A fantastic stalk .Good camerawork.

    A truly grateful hunter.

    No 'Whoos""Yeahs" or high 5's.

    Just genuine hunting.

    I am jealous.

    Well done.

  • wow never thought you could do that with a crossbow! Great shot! I doubt my little Horton Legend could do that. I would have to run for my life!

  • God gave the animals to man to manage, and yes, to EAT. Get over it.

You can hound people on earth who follow God's view of the world, but He will get the last word.

  • lol dont go shooting elephants with a crossbow unless you know what you are doing! (guy in vid did a great job) if you dont kill it, you could be the one ending up dead!

    again. Great shot!

  • what was the bolt-mass and the draw-length of the crossbow?

  • nice video, great shot...what bolt and broadhead did you use for this elephant ??

    brgds

  • I believe any animal shot in the wild is not wasted as other animals will feed on it.

  • Why does everyone dislike this video, its pretty awesome!

  • that was stuff of legend nice shot

  • What was the length of the bolt? It looks to be 21 inches.

  • @Alive139 its more chalenging and fun and dangerous W/à crossbow

  • nice bull but you can shoot elephant not just conservation officers !

  • I'm so surprised there aren't more comments of people whinging about the elephant being killed. Awesome shot though, and glad it's been put to use :)

  • imagine field dressing that thing..

  • @Tevujin yeah, has to take hours! I would hate to pack it out!

  • i've heard of an Excalibur bow, not a crossbow, my neighbor has 1 and he says there's ppl who want it when he dies, a whole line of em >.>

  • The "hunter" here is the owner of Excalibur crossbows In Canada! Bill Troughbridge. He has taken more game than most of us could dream of!

  • Wow, dun know that you can take down an elephant with a crossbow. But I will only limit myself to hunting animal up to the size of a cape buffalo

  • That was a great shot. Couldn't of done it any better.

  • only 225 draw weight? wow, it expected a lot higher, though I guess that's unnecessary now though.

    Nice shooting, Tex.

  • would a heavy caliber gun not be easier?

  • @alive139 Probably would be but if hunting were easy,it wouldn't be a challenge.Humans have to avoid being detected by the game animals and be at their very best to make a humane shot to kill the animal cleanly and not let it suffer.

  • Didn't Howard Hill kill a couple with a longbow, though?

  • I enjoy hunting and it was a good shot but not my cup of tea, tnx for posting none the less

  • @Audiodump hunting was around since the dawn of time...it brings the primal out in you

  • in the mi'kmaq culture, if u kill something u have to eat it.

  • Wow, one shot with a arrow downed a bull that size? Amazing, really gives new respect to a old style weapon.

And congrats to giving the meat away and not just keeping the head or tusks. Least that village was fed for awhile.

  • Does that kind of hunting opportunity cost a lot or are permits a reasonable price since population control is needed?

  • @w1ttman 20-50k for an elephant safari unless this is animal control.

  • @w1ttman

I think this was done at a hunting park in South Africa. It was in one of Louis Theroux episodes. I'm assuming it would have cost him at least 60 grand to hunt it.

  • a nice animal hate to see it die but thats life :/ :) good hunt tho

  • very very very nice shot.. that should make an excellent pair of shoes, maybe two.. i know i enjoy my elephant skin boots.. very tough leather.. they seem to last a lifetime! if i were to make that shot, i would want some of their kids to make me a pair.. just as a keepsake.

  • @Audiodump Well it may interest you to know that often the meat doesn't go to waste. Most often the local native are notified of the kill and they harvest the meat. Which is great for them cause they don't usually have any way to get large ammounts of meat. But I agree with you that wasting the meat is a terrible thing.

  • thats a hell of a lot of meat

  • most hunting in africa acualy supports the wild life santurarys and is monitured by park rangers

  • nice was it a normal arrow or some kind of poison?

  • tht was sweet, ididnt even no that was possible....wish i coulda done that

  • Just another reason among man to own an Excalibur . . . I love mine!

  • Excellent shot, I would be too nervous about missing my shot on an elephant.

  • Yeah it was a Great shot... You were able to hit the broad side of an elephant! LOL OK i thought it was funny. Anyhow, Yeah the meat was put to good use so its an honorable kill. Using a cross bow is even more honorable. I wouldnt say this guy has BALLS though. He has high powered rifles backing him up. Leave the rifles at camp next time and you have Balls.

  • ever hear the joke about how to cook an elephant. there were two versions.

good thing you put in the info about the meat being eaten, there would be flames glaore.

  • how do u even begin to field dress something of that size??? u would need a crew of like 8 guys just to skin the dam thing, Not to mention a big ass freezer. LOL

  • i wonder how they get the elephant back to the camp

  • im gueessing they cut the meat up into big chunks and used some sort of mule or camel or whatever the hell they have over there to pack it out in several trips

  • So what the hell now?? did they leave it to rot on the ground or did the natives get some free meat,i don't deny it was it was a clean shot and the animal did'nt suffer but it is not something that one can cut up and hump it on there back to the nearest vehicle, they sort of weigh a few ton.

  • @tewtew1 The locals use every bit of the elephant, including the organs.

  • @tewtew1 Since the natives can't legally hunt, they don't get game meat unless somebody comes along paying beau coup bucks to hunt the animals that would trample their crops. Yes,the locals did help with the field dressing and packing the meat back to where they live. It's rather common on African hunts.

  • stop complaining its not that bad hunting with a gun, we dont make the animals not use what they have adapted to use to protect themselves(hightened senses, attack method) they have adapted just like we have and we use our mind and things we have to hunt the only reason people hunt with guns is we devolped them to be able to be at the top of the food chain

hey its a dog eat dog world and were at the top for now

  • this looked like a fair hunt for the human and the elephant- the more advanced and capable animal won but it was because of a skillful, 1 hit kill shot that would have barely caught the elephant's attention if it wasn't perfect.

The fact that the hunter gave the animal to locals only makes this a better example of a ethical hunt.

  • now i can go for this kind of hunting! see the dude was a fairly good distance taking a big chance using a crossbow and just seemed alot fairer than walkin ten feet from it with an rpg and pullin the trigger lol

  • I understand if you don't like hunting, BUT please save ANY criticism for another vid, maybe one where the hunters use guns.

THAT was stupidly brave (a bit stupid if you ask me)

If he'd misfired, the elephant would've had nothing more than a gay-looking ear-stud he didn't like.

He'd have been looking for some ass to kick, and he'd have spotted the "piercer" well within ass-kicking range.

Wouldn't have had much time for a reload

Arrows are for NOTHING bigger than wild pigs (even THAT is risky)

  • Time to load it up on the old 4 wheeler and drag it out of there..... (NOT).

  • Its hard to watch an elephant get killed, but your right if it was a problem animal and was marked to be destoyed its far better to let some one who has the money to pay for a tag hunt it then make the farmer whom the elephant is destroying his crops kill it. also never would have thought a bow would take down an elephant, good shot.

  • Before guns and bows people use to kill them with spears. I think some tribes in Africa still do. Probably a vid on youtube about it.

  • awsome shot!!! probably pearced the lung or heart...or both!!! well done.

  • Wow I'm not that brave!

  • nice shot

  • It is not very relevant whether the elephant posed danger to humans or not. If the appropriate authorities (i.e. local gov-t) decides that an animal can be killed, it can be killed. End of the story. There's some million whitetail deer killed in the US every year. What's the difference?

  • Great shot! Might hav to check that bad ass bow out. Iv saw alot of great kills wit a crossbow but that is 1 of the most amazing. I would of never believed them if they didnt hav it on video.

  • i shot a small stag with a 30-06 and broke its leg and it still moved about 30m from where i shot it.. theres nooo waaaaay! i would hunt a elephant with a cross bow lol youve got balls buddy coz i fuckin dont

  • I'm normally against killing, and I despise trophy hunters, but in a case like this where the meat (along with everything else) went to good use, I think it's acceptable.

That being said, I'd still never be able to pull the trigger myself. I'd empathize with the animal too much.

  • Elephant licenses are given out SPECIFICALLY and RARELY, and are only given out by conservation offices. If this hunter hadn't killed this elephant, a conservation officer or a pissed off farmer would have. Responsible, law-abiding hunters SAVE the populations, while poachers give the whole idea a bad name by greedily taking much, much more than they need.

Btw, I love how the hunter says "look at the size of the ears," because he has no idea what to look for in an elephant, cracked me up

  • The hunter was not showing the large ears becasue he thought they were a trophy. He was just commenting that elephants have huge ears!

  • I understand the whole situation you explain here. If you kill an animal because it has become a danger to people or because there are to much of them in an area, then I imagine it's a good reason. But there are also hunters with bows or rifles that just kill animals for fun, like prohuntress (proretard) that has killed an elephant because of a bet.

Thëse "hunters" should be hunted themselves. You should only hunt for food or for the reasons mentioned above, and not just for getting a hard-on.

  • @DoopaTroopa Damn right.People don't realize how much an elephant can eat and that farmers get irked when their crops are trampled and eaten before they can sell it to feed their family. I am told that the locals cannot legally hunt in any African nation so they have to rely on outsiders who pay huge amounts of money to the local economy in order to control the size of the herds. They get the meat, their local economy gets a boost and the hunter gets a trophy.Win-Win all around.

  • kudos to you man

  • Proablly a lung or heart shot.

  • props my luck would be he getting trampled by that damn thing noice shot

  • it needs lots of courage to hunting this animal with arrow or crossbow, or even primitive weapons. good hunting.

  • All the pounds of tension has it?

    Does someone know?

  • The crossbow was a 225lb. draw weight Exomax model that shoots arrows at 350 fps.

  • congrats y2kmx5. i believe they're one of the MOST powerful for crossbows with 15-16inch powerstrokes, following the Excalibur Equinox @ 350fps!

anyways, would you know the pounds of energy this generates(much more powerful than a standard 150lbs crossbow)? how would it compare to a 9mm gun?

    thanks, cheers

  • @y2kmx5 wow i thought that elephant skin was really thick

  • @y2kmx5 Damn, I wander how he drew the cord back!

  • wow nice shot man what kind of crossbow was that really cool

  • The irony is that elephant hunting today is one of the major contributors to the preservation of these animals - to protect them from indiscriminate poaching, you need loyal and armed park rangers, and the 20 K a tourist pays for a trophy help paying their salaries.

Also, the elephants they shoot are typically the ones that get too close to human settlements, i.e. those that the local villagers would need to get rid of anyway.

  • And those facts tend to be what the idiots can't figure out. They choose to believe everything is a 'conspiracy'. That's about the only way PETA can justify most of their statements.

  • Also, elephant numbers must be kept down in an area because they are destructive. They'll push over a huge tree to munch on a few succulent leaves at the top of it. Too many of them and their destruction cause them all to starve. So culling is necessary and the money gets pumped back into their conservation, but many people don't want to see hunting of them at all and if that's the case there won't be elephants in the future.

  • talking about destruction you should see what they can do to a house. and they also can kill peopole without anybody knowing they were there even though they are big they can walk quietly. and during musk the males are extremeley dangerous

  • Ya, hunting is one of the biggest contributors to properly regulating a healthy population of game. All that money spent on deer tags, then they kill the deer in places where there are too many, it's almost our responsibility to hunt...

  • Even after you explain the situation, how it helps locals, and financially helps local peoples, as well as helping to preserve wildlife, some still don't understand. What I understand is that this was a "rogue" elephant, and was slated for removal because of him being dangerous, or destructive. Your's is the best answer I have seen. And still some throw out childish profanity and threats. You have my respect.

  • i shot a grizzly bear with a cross bow last year. one shot he ran 40 yrds then expired.i was relly ecicted.he weighd 901.3 lbs!

  • I'd wonder how ethical it is to kill such a large animal with a bow and arrow, but I guess since Col. Patterson did it pretty regular with a .303 through the roof of the mouth I guess this isn't too much of a bigger stretch. Maybe hunts like this will start making states change their opinions on using crossbows during deer season. If it can kill dumbo it sure as hell can kill bambi.

  • Maybe you forget that before we had guns everyoe hunted with bows. Where do you live that you can't hunt deer with a bow? The reason most people use guns is that they don't want to actually hunt, they just want to kill things. Shooting a deer at 300+ yards is easy with a 30.06 and a scope.

  • You've obviously never tried to make a shot at 300+ yards

  • that is some fucking crossbow

  • Incredible shot, amazing animal. Good job.

  • wow, you can hunt elephants?

  • Yes because a lot of villages in Africa have problems with elephants destroying their homes and property.

  • Well, let's see what kinda bullshit PETA supporters have to say. Im sure it's coming. They have to stick their pest noses in everything.

  • @woodtothechuck I'm a farmer (organic) and I'm constantly telling those PETA jerks that their vegetarian lifestyle is responsible for the deaths of just as many animals than if they ate meat. They all seem to think that we tell the deer and other critters to move along and they do, all bambi style. In truth they get ground up in the machinery all the time. There is no free lunch.

  • man i wonder what they did with that thing, and wtf kind of crossbow was that??

  • the animal gets 'recycled', all the members of the local community/village are given the carcass .

  • Man, I thought people used bazookas to kill Elephants. Neat stuff.

  • great shot, that must be a really nice crossbow, probably the best

  • i orriginaly thought it was cruel but after i found out that it fed an entire village i changed my mind, good job

  • lol, I would have shot......THEN RUN 1000 MILES AWAY!!! DON'T SQUISH ME!!!

  • alright its down! who wants to drag it out?

  • best crossbow advert anyone could hope for

  • my granddad went hunting with hank parker and shot his first elk with him(my gdad)

  • although i don't agree with hunting elephants, would have been a mad rush and that is 1 kick ass bow!

  • Time to get the villagers with the butcher knives and have a community party-fest.

  • hey i was just woundering what tpye of arrow head you used?

  • that was amazing! ive never heard of someone shooting an elephant w/ a crossbow

  • You gunna eat all that?

  • ya excalibur cross bows are amazing

  • anyone know what the draw weight was?

  • The crossbow used is an Excalibur Exomax and it has a 225 lb. draw weight.

  • holy shit! One shot?!?!?!?

  • lol whos cleaning the thing?

  • i know the guy who shot that his name is bill my grandpa is great friends with him

  • that was awsome well done

  • im not trying to be greeb piece but do they taste nice or???

  • ehh not bad, they develop difrent tastes from difrent parts of the country, the one i got wasent bad. let me tell you lol we couldent bring all the meat so we spred it amoung the bushman.

  • what's the specs and brand of that bow ? good hunting. good footage. tks.

  • Amazing shot, and bloody powerful cross-bow to do that. Well done guys.

  • There is a difference between a hunter and a faggot ass poacher this guy is a hunter hes not exploiting the wild illegally sure i might no like elephants getting killed but at least hes not killing a billion of them for the black market

  • anyone have any idea what lb that crossbow is?

  • To all the ignorant people who will be pseudo-shocked by this video.. please take the time to read the other comments already here before you spit out some moronic statement. I am quite certain your argument has already been tried and shot down. You can't put a total ban on killing any animal. Alligators were threatened in the Southern US, now they are everywhere. nature is very resilient. This is not a poaching video, it's a HUNTING video. Know the difference!!

  • the animals that die from hunters get a MUCH more humane death than the kind they would get in the wild. which is most likely getting chased down by a predator(s) and die exhausted and start being ripped apart alive.

  • heres 2 reasons.

    1: they're very dangerous animals.

2: the can feed lots of ppl in nearby villages and seeing how most ppl in africa are poor...they need the food.

  • more of a challenge to shoot with a cross bow rather than a rifle bow hunting kicks ass

  • You can wait it out for the creature to die after the first shot but i usually shoot it a few more times to make sure it's really dead.

  • The elephant was killed because it was destroying crops for the people to lazy to read also it provided 2 tons of meet for a near by village.

  • Wow awesome video. That just goes to show how effective modern crossbows are.

There's sure alot of hate here for hunters hunting legal game. Elephants aren't illegal to hunt in Zimbabwe, so more power to em'. You limp wrister animal zealots should go watch the Smurfs if you can't handle this.

  • while its a bit sad that some random doofus killed the elephant, it did not go wasted. It fed a nearby town. We eat meat, an elephant has meat... this is a natural part of life. Now if they killed it, took its tusks and let it rot... that would be sick.

  • I was wondering about buying a crossbow. I guess this proves its effectiveness. If you can take elephant, then you can take anything in north america.

  • Yeah so as me, crossbows are cool. I will buy a crossbow soon.

Man i have to hunt bears with this shit!

  • niiice

  • Before watching this video I guessed some animal activists would be posting pathetic comments and pollute this video. I was right. It clearly says "Hunting" so dont watch it assholes

  • great shot can believe you took it down with a crossbow amazing shot

  • how much does a good crossbow cost?

  • I'm looking into purchasing a 150lb pull crossbow and those go from $500+up. My friends hunting buddy recently got a crossbow and paid $1200, it must be a good one.

  • no you god damn stupid idiot. If you can read the damn info it said that it helped a hundred natives from a village eat well that night. Not everyone can sit at a home and order pizza off the phone you stupid prick. Im only replying to fegman and those few others, btw.

  • yup that will solve it millions of starving Africans wasting countless calories trying to kill small game to eat? not only that but a lot of the time they are dangerous to eat due to poisons parasites or diseases.

and i doubt their numbers would remain stable for long if they were the only sort of animals hunted for food in all of africa

  • don't be pist, they hunt them and doesn't waste them, they give the food to the villagers who doesn't have weapons to hunt, now thats respect for both human and animals :P

  • why does everybody have a problem it did feed people just because its an elephant rater than a cow doesn't make it any more right or wrong

  • Conservation includes culling. Realize that before you post, guys. The elephants are at risk to themselves when they destroy the vegetation and their own ecosystems, so it's the responsibility of hunters like this guy to keep their population in check.

  • how do you kill an elephant wih a crossbow . do you know how tough there skin is theres no way. (click on my name wildwood camper please check it out.) it's hunting,

  • I also find this interesting, i never thought a commercial Xbow could kill an elephant. Although it couldve been a custom one (more powerful than normal) and a direct shot with a Good tipped arrow directly to the heart MIGHT do the job but it would be a slow painful death. That is if u could even get an arrow through the very tough skin and extremelly large rib cage, which with an arrow is nearlly impossible.

  • not just to the heart its designed to kill larger animals by hemorrhaging from larger arteries/veins and vital organs they did wait around 15 minutes so i would guess thats exactly what happened

  • Elephant numbers have increased & conservation has been extremely successfull Conservation includes culling by the way!

Elephants are like some humans, they will destroy everything & turn a forest into a desert which is why you must strictly control their numbers -otherwise all the animals in the area will also die.

Hunters give alot of money & are the biggest help to ensuring the species survival.

If you against hunting, you against conservation & may as well support rhino horn poaching.

  • What bladdy planet you idiots come from? Hunting is very important in Souther Africa and elephants must be culled.

    Its called "conservation"

Whats the difference killing with a gun or a cross-bow?

Africa is not for wimps! So its best none of you winging fagots ever go there.

  • that was my shitwig brother, i knew this was actually what was needed, it even says it in the description, haha

  • I like shooting my Crossbow, but i hate you for hunting fuckin' Elephants -.-

  • how did u kill an elephant with 1 arrow?

  • wow.

It looked like you hit in the leg?? where did the arrow go in?

  • You ladies who don't like hunting ... by yourselfes a brand new, soft little net and go catch some butterflies !! But please release them afterwards ... they have a little tiny, teenee-weenee flower to visit !!

  • I don't think I could kill something like that... But atleast it went to good use, and they didn't do it to just say "I killed an elephant..."...

  • if you were to read the information. it was not hunted for "fun". It was in a part of zimbabwe that was heavily concentrated with elephants. Controlled hunting was necessary to keep the vegetation alive for ALL the other animals including the other ELEPHANTS. It even fed an entire village of people so it was not put to waste.

    idiots.

  • good shot

  • no i dont "dig" the only thing i would be diggin is ur shallow grave, and i still seriously doubt you would be able to move around us without us seeing you or hearing you

  • Well, I don't need guns or crossbows against sissies like you, I will take all of you down with my 2 fists, which I'm pretty sure you sissies don't know anything about.

You're still in high school, so It' still time for you to learn how to become a real man. Real man don't hunt innocent animals for fun, you dig?

You're still young, go join a boxing gym and become boxer, it's a real men, sport.

  • That will be crossbow VS. Crossbow. What I was saying is, I will like to see you guys running around the jungle without seeing us, this way we will crossbow your sissy asses and run like a pussy and come back later to play with your dead body. You dig?

  • if you dont like it then why to you look it up and watch it

  • did u not read that the meat was given to a village? If not its in the description

  • did u not read that the meat was given to a village? If not its in the description

  • Wow!!! Awesome shot! What model of crossbow did you use? Or it was a custom made one?

  • the elephant was killed because mother nature can not stand the herdes anymore in africa...

but who is going to kill and regulate the millions of people there who can not fed or carried by the land?

  • Fred Bear did it with a single arrow out of a recurve or a longbow, I don't remember. Nice animal.

  • WOW. i want one

  • wow thats very humane and ethical, i dont like that your legally killing an animla for food so i think we should murder you

  • i would shoot at you and then cut your ear....f...ing bastard....why you kill this poor chang

  • wow. such brave men.

a couple of fat asses. they couldnt even catch their breath after shooting an arrow.

killing an elephant with a bow and arrow while hiding in the bushes. how sick and stupid is this?

  • freakin gay teriost murderor fags stop killing elephants or ill shoot u!
