@thetickleninjas I want it to be but the USB Ports work when ever they want to and the freezing pops up when ever it wants I want a laptop without any problems!
Why not use a toothpaste tube, the inside part of the toothpaste tube is heat resistant and it doesn't conduct electricity too well. or just use a rubber pencil eraser (the one's that stick on top of the pencil) personally I prefer the eraser, just cut down to size and there you're done.
The media button is used to start a program that Toshiba uses for media things and when you changed the os all it does now is turn into a power button I had a dell once that had some sorta Dell Media Software and I Pressed it and it booted the computer than opened up the Media Application Automatically After Logging In
@marek594 You don't want to know how many times I reinstalled an OS on this laptop no matter how many times I install a new OS it doesn't fix the USB problem
I wonder if the Motherboard was fractured when it was dropped in some where. Well, atleast it's a fix of some sort though. How did you think of it though? The fix. Maybe for Christmas you'll have your self a nice laptop that works a bit better than this one. It sounds like I might have to add Toshiba to my black list of laptops. One day you should get a nice laptop of somesort..
@Unicornguy I was on a 3 hour road trip and I brought it along to listen to some music or watch videos and it kept freezing and I pressed down on the bottom of the laptop and it worked then stopped pushing then it freezed then applied pressure and it worked so I put the toothpaste box inside to apply pressure to the board to stop it from freezing
@vcamnowaa Oh wow. That must have been a troublesome period of time for you. If you want you could fix up a Windows 98 or later laptop and it will play video pretty well. Like if you have it downloaded and are using GOM Player it won't lag too much. I had some video that wasn't animation playing on my HP 6370Z pc (8mb video card) and it wasn't lagging ,but if I went to youtube it would lag. Although the refresh rate on the monitor might not let it play well. I hope you can find a permanent fix!
@vcamnowaa Well, I'm not sure if you should be ready to junk the mother board just yet. It could be possible that something on the board isn't properly connected right. I'd check to see if the processor is seated properly. I wish you had a processor you could swap out with it to see if the processor is bad? Now, where the card board is.. Is it a memory bay that it's in? And what would be the location on top of the motherboard that is equivalent to the position of the cardboard on the bottom?
@Unicornguy I don't know what I should do yet I assume the CPU is ok but I have a big gut feelin that the mother board is the main cause the cardboard is inside the laptop its beside the RAM and the modem and the Wifi adapter the lid that covers the the devices pushes down on the card board and the card board pushes on the mother board if the card board is removed the machine freezes so what I'm saying is putting pressure on the board allows the machine to function properly
@vcamnowaa Well, don't rule out the CPU just yet. It still could be the culprit. It sounds like something is loose inside the machine some where ,but where it is... That's hard to say. It'd be a stretch to say it was the WiFi adapter though. I wish I could see where it was on the pc and what;s on top of that position inside the machine.
@Unicornguy I just wish I could find the damn problem! I'm getting sick and tired of the freezing crap I almost snapped the thing in half today! I can't enjoy a movie for a few seconds without it F-ing up!
@vcamnowaa I know what you mean. I think it might be the CPU ,but it could also be the board... Did you take the card board out? Or was it freezing even with the card board in the machine still? Like that's not good. I hope you find a solution and don't smash it in half.
@Unicornguy No the cardboard is still in the machine if I take it out the latptop will freeze and slapping tapping shaking won' fix it I have to punch the bottom of the machine really hard! so the cardboard is in there to stop the serious freezing but it still does that little freeze where I have to do what I always do tap slap and shake and it works. No promises on the smashing part! I'm getting very very angry when this thing constantly freezes up when I try to reply to comments and e-mails!
@vcamnowaa Ok. I wonder what the problem is wrong with this little laptop. Even with the card board in the machine it still freezes? What do you think you could do? Wait! You know about the Acer right? Well, I think the cord for the DVD burner may have gone bad so why not take the cable from the Toshiba for the DVD burner so that you can use the Acer again. Hopefully you can actually use it. I figure the Acer's original cable is just cheap. Do you think it will work?
@Unicornguy Even when the cardboard is in the machine it still freezes but without the cardboard it will freeze and slapping, tapping, hitting won't fix it but with the cardboard inside the machine it pushes on the mother board to prevent the serious freeze but it does freeze half the time and I just shake it and it works again and I have tried everything with the acer I put the Acer's DVD Drive in the toshiba and it works I put the Toshiba's DVD Drive in the acer no DVD icon shows uo I give up!
@vcamnowaa Oh wow... That's no good. I hope you find a new machine sometime soon! How is the Dell C640 treating you? Is it still messing up and doing weird stuff? Also, I looked at the LCD for the Compaq and it won't fit the GateWay. But isn't there a cable inside the machine that goes from the DVD drive to somewhere on the board? Or does it like fit in like a cartridge? Gee, I wish I knew what else to recommend... Did you try finding more out about the IBM ThinkPad?
@Unicornguy The Dell is fine for some reason no weird problems its been running fine. Ahh that sucks that the screens won't fit!. the connector is built into the motherboard so there might be an issue with a certain part of the board I know enough about the think pad that if I take the WiFi chip out and put a different one in it will say please turn off the computer and insert the Original WiFi card and that the original WiFi card isn't compatible with my Network and Settings.
@vcamnowaa LOL. Maybe I'd just go a head and stick with the Dell as a main pc for a while. Maybe you can put the DVD burner in the Dell and replace the LCD in the Dell with the Toshiba's!!! Oh, that sucks that the board is also going bad in the Acer. I'd try looking around and see what possible types of WiFi cards could have been used in your IBM and maybe then it will work. I hope it will atleast! I'd give it a try!
@Unicornguy First of all Dell and Toshiba can suck it! I hate them both And the DVD Drive doesn't fit the Dell 2nd the toshiba's screen is a 17inch screen the /Dell has a 14inch the acer once its dead out come the useful parts and under the ground it goes!
@vcamnowaa Well, that's understandable. Have you thought about going back to the Acer for a little while until you can find a permanent fix for the Toshiba. I'm still wondering what could be wrong with the Toshiba. Could you take the whole laptop apart and make a video showing off as much as the motherboard as you can? Maybe there's a defect on the board. If you knew how to solder I think you could probably make a work around for it. I'll show you a video of what I'm talking about.
@Unicornguy I've told people this lots of times the acer has a bad mother board so the DVD Drive won't work. and I have taken the toshiba apart lots of times lots of screws to take out! and I asked a teacher who has a more computer experience than me he said after awhile the solder on the mother board expands due to heat and when it expands it touches the solder closest to it then causes a little short which causes the freezing issue right now the laptop is running fine! for now that is....
@vcamnowaa Oh ok. But just for using to do internet stuff and leave the burning to the Toshiba. I'd love to take a look at the board if it's possible. It's true that solder does expand when heated ,but it seems to me that it shouldn't be doing that because they would have figured out a work around by now it seems. But I never put together a computer in the sense I made and soldered the parts so I couldn't be the best one to tell you.
is this your primary computer?
