  • "...tgfi, tgfi, tgfi, TGFI, TGFI, TGFI..."

--> insert epic Kenny G saxophone solo here<--

  • like if amy farrah fowler from the big bang theory brought u here!! (:

  • @CensorshipFTL There's nothing inherent in that meal that's bad for you - people ate that kind of breakfast for centuries with no problem - when they stopped eating traditionally they started to get fat. Sure, his turkey, milk and eggs may not be fed the traditional way so they may not have good omega 3 ratios, but I'm almost sure that that meal is better for you than a sugary cerral with skim milk.

  • Songs today are soooo different .. I hope these songs will come back!

  • rafael from rio sent me here!!!

  • Two virtuosos at work¡¡ I feel so sad for those 103 dislikes because they don't have the blessing of recognizing this masterpiece.

  • @Eclectic1101 they just don't see...

  • reminds me of my childhood mum dancing to this.. simply beautiful:))

  • Cool - this quality will never feel dated...

  • Stan the Man...what a gift to the world.

  • Swag

  • So cool seeing the two of them perform. Nice hair an Astrid. ;-) Thanks

  • Gooood...

  • Beautiful performance

  • Apparently, 102 people just don't see.

  • O CENÁRIO TAMBÉM É UM ESPETÁCULO!

  • im in the best elevator ever and never wanna get out

  • The girl from Ipanema sounds like my kinda woman.

  • Thank You very much. It's lovely, beautiful

  • Such awesome music and in my generation people ae listening to lady gaga, niki minaj such skanks!

  • This song transports me to the beach in the 60's. Sooooooo very chilled out. Just a once in a lifetime song...

  • what a great song, thanks for share it

  • you kids dont undertand this, but we had mics above the artists just ouside of camera range they were very sensitive for that time. Understand there was very minimal outside noise at that time from the audience. It was just a different time and you young people just dont understand. This was not Madonna at the Super Bowl. Just trust me. This was LIVE

  • still listening to this in 2012, and i'm 12 years old.

  • @ulyssesailor Me too.

  • Beautiful

  • This song is so relaxing and soothing... The girl is gorgeous and has a beautiful voice...

  • everyone has had a girl from ipanema in their life

  • I'm eating an omelet with turkey slices and cheese, a slice of bread with a fried egg in it (I cut a hole in the bread using a cup), and drinking orange juice for breakfast while listening to this. PERFECT breakfast music.

  • @ogonga94 Terrible breakfast for your health.

  • Amazing. So classy.

  • This is so timeless!

  • Why do i get the feeling this is where Amy Winehouse got her stage presence? Great tune.

  • This was when people were classy and music was good.

  • Spell bound...Just amazing. So pure, such innocense.

  • Astrud... so sensual without trying. The perfect natural voice.... One can tell Astrud was in "chill" mode... was it the departure of Joao?.... Astrud's relationship with Getz/? The shock of seeing his injections of heroin? Receiving tiny sums of monetary compensation? or the shock of success with the consequences that came with it.... all the while being innocent?

Whatever was going on .... Astrud was always on key... sensual (without trying) , an icon of what is missing today... a class act.

  • Astrud é demais, pena que esteja esquecida aqui no Brasil.

  • i'm super in love with this song!

  • Look, Astrud was an accidental vocalist (wife of another Brazilian musician) who worked as a perfect foil for the incredibly lyrical Stan 'The Tone" Getz, a jazz legend now in his third and most successful comeback at the time of this recording. She was 24 here and was appearing on TV. I'd be damn nervous too.

  • Los escenarios de esa época eran tan elegantes, ahora los platós parecen arenas de circo.

  • love the music. there must have been other video because i just saw a different performance camera angle on time life music with debbie boone and someone else i forgot.

  • She's so cute ! So cool and gentle.Ostensible totally emotionless, but in fact: How much feeling in her Voice. Luv it.

  • @ELobodeStepario She looks terrified to me. She looks emotionless because she's trying to hold in her stage fright.

  • @gettingkilt

Astrud actually did suffer from acute stage fright. It got so bad that she finally went into therapy to get over it, and in so doing got to the point where she could tolerate it. If you see videos of her performances in the 80s and 90s you can see that she's a lot looser and more relaxed on stage than she was in the 60s and 70s (before the therapy).

  • this song makes me want to drink a martini even though i hate vodka

  • All Class!

  • Garota da Ipanema and PANAIR do BRASIL's Lockheed Constellation, these match together, this is Brasil for me!!!

  • I remember when this came out.

  • this song gives me chill

  • this just never get old ,, i love this song

  • such a relaxing song

  • Blueguitar007. I used to watch them my self, still love this music , some times they used a "Jirafe Mic" or over head microphone like in today's commercials.

  • @loufalce Not Really, :)

  • The song, her dress, the backdrop...very mod...

  • Brilliant Bossanova(:

I might have to sing this song with my school's jazz band... hopefully ill pull it off

  • asome

  • such elegant music.

  • @mrd3m she would be 67 on July 7. She was born in 1945.

  • How old is the girl from Ipanema now?.....hahaha

  • @mrd3m She doesn't age

  • she looks so uncomfortable, like she's made out of wax

but love her voice. heard this on the big bang theory! bahahaha

  • oh man>>great post! thank-you.

  • Best version of this song

  • This must have been recorded back in the day when music had class.

  • parece que se abure!!!!

    pero canta de puta madre

  • She is much better than the other versions from amy, cher, diana krall etc., However the best among all is from frank sinatra. He really is amazing

  • It's just so mellow, relaxed and easy. The songs just don't get much better.

  • So is this live or what? A soundstage..where's her mic?

    Can someone explain please?

I always saw this kind of thing on tv shows.. They seem to be playing live but never a mic to be seen.

  • @Blueguitar007 - When she walks forward and the camera zooms in, the microphone is lowered from above on a boom and rests directly above her head out of camera shot. Then at 1:32 - the mic moves over above Stan the Man as he plays the sax solo - while she walks to the mic stand and finishes the song. It's completely, 100% live.

  • @Blueguitar007 When you're used to Green Screens and 60 takes to get something right, live, from back in the early days, seems to be not real, but they knew what they were doing.

  • @Blueguitar007 Boom Mike..you tell live..B/C of sounds of studio is heard as oppose to a studio closed in sound

  • @Blueguitar007 Think about what you said. Ever seen a movie or TV show? You don't see actors walking around with mics in front of them. Everything is live when it's being recorded!

Boom mics. It's all about boom mics.

  • @Blueguitar007 the mic is in her hair

  • wow i dont think her arms moved at all

  • yes , Rio is Rio de Janeiro. and it's so beautiful there !

  • she look's like a less-druged version on Amy Winehous

  • @lordofthechocolates cos of the airstyle? wtf dude ...

  • I admit I came here because of Amy Farrah Fowler from TBBT, but this is a great song, she has such a sweet voice xD

  • i dont like the english version

  • I first heard this in "Rio".

  • @KBAFourthtime Would I be right in thinking "Rio" is Rio de Janeiro?

  • @suffern63 yep

  • @suffern63 no, everyone will think you are talking of the rio grande

  • Second 39: She is obviously very very annoyed for being there. What happened?

  • Stan Getz all the babes.

  • "...swings so cool and sways so gently..."

Aside from the fact that--by today's standards--her hair looks like Chewbacca's face (0:53), this is fantastic! AWE(and then)SOME!

  • Married her, not for long, will always wish to be with her. Ray Miranda I'll Always be yours, Jeffe.

  • Will girls ever dress like this again? Or will be destined to a blue jean clad world?

  • Love this song when my mom was very sick before she died I would play this on my reel to reel for her she loved it as much as I did!

  • She looks so calm!! But I great interpretation!

  • forgive me if I will offend anyone here but it's so nice to know that it is the second som in the world in its hystory, wow and it's Brazilian. I love Brazil and I know there are much more than this. Know it and find out by yourselves.

  • This music is so relaxing! Also, she is so classically beautiful. I wish society as a whole still presented themselves as polished in public today.

  • Heaven! ;)

  • My light yellow `64 T Bird covertible with a green interior, top down on a lovely spring day. "The Girl from Ipanema" on the radio. Does it get any better than this?

  • Gilberto, beautiful and sad!!!

  • this song makes me smile... amy's cover ?! shiver and cry...

  • she wouldn't even get to boot camp these days

  • @The7011 what do you mean?

  • The Color Of Money

  • pure magic, please note the performace is live!

someone plase make a time-machine, I want to go back

  • i finally found it!!!!!!!

  • Great Oldie!!!!!

  • Is that a beehive on her head?????

  • SHE SORTA RESEMBLES A SOBER AMY WINEHOUSE LOL

  • Nice song but she would be more effective if she would tone down her animation.

  • Stop clapping, I'm trying to hear the music. Haha.

  • Lord&Taylor

  • Gosto mais da versão original

  • Astrud rox harder than Slayer!!! I luv bossa nova!!!!!!....

  • This version sounds a bit slow..?

  • so relaxing

  • she looks like Chloe O'Brien, LOL!

  • pure chill................

  • Parece uma estátua!

  • 16 who dislikes this is Justin Bieber....

  • Finnegan: What the hell is that?

    Pantucci: The girl from Ipanema.

  • Scrubs Season 6 episode 5

  • Este sí. Auténtico

  • still the best of the best version . . .

  • The grandaddy of all bossa nova songs...check out Sinatra's version too.

  • perfection

  • In fact, Astrud fought her own shyness to sing this on TV, in a movie {Sam Katzman's "Get Yourself a College Girl"}, and anywhere else she was able to perform it. This led to her recording career...and her eventual divorce from Joao Gilberto.

  • This is wonderful, I was just a THOUGHT when she was singing (I wasn't born yet) ugh you don't get the joke... *sigh* fail.... :(

  • This is wonderful, I was 5 years old when she was singing.

  • Troppo bella!!! Sia la canzone che la voce....

  • Holy crap what a time warp!

  • how much lovely is this !!!

  • i 1:51 she looks like anna paquín :s

  • @kperscy She looks like Patricia Arquette too.

  • @ssebastianj

She looks to me more like Stephanie Powers. The Girl From UNCLE Ipanema :^D

  • Maravilloso!

  • Why can't anyone write and perform music like this anymore? I remember my father playing this on his stereo telling us to listen to the stereo seperations; much better days then now :(

  • The Brazilian music is a world cultural heritage :)

  • she should calm down a bit. it's not a fkn punk song!

  • VERY smokey! GREAT!!!

  • Horrível! Música de verdade é a original!!! Tentem imitar o Brasil, mas nunca conseguirão!

  • @corrups Imitar o Brasil? Como assim? A Astrid é brasileira mané.

  • @corrups mas é burro mesmo, astrud é brasileira

  • DEFINITELY ONE OF THE MOST ANIMATED SINGERS I'VE SEEN IN QUITE SOME TIME.

  • @HEARTHEANGELSVOICES her face in the 0:39 minute and the way she says AH its just priceless!!! SHE SO NOT WANTED TO BE THERE!!!

  • @jesusbronze85 yeah gotta wonder what was up with her that day

  • @jesusbronze85 LOL remember she IS the girl from Ipanema..aloof and unavailable

  • @jesusbronze85 Like, "Would you creeps f-ing quit staring me down when I go walking?"

  • @HEARTHEANGELSVOICES epic comment is epic.

  • @HEARTHEANGELSVOICES Take a look at Frank Sinatra in the 40s. :)

  • there's something so special about her face. her nasal bridge seems out of place on that face, and her chin is weak, but somehow it all looks wonderful together.

  • perfect mall music.

  • Q linda cancion!! Me hace sentir de buen humor, pone una sonrisa en mi rostro :)

  • I loooove this song. We actually heard it first in music class a few years back and I could never remember the name, but now I stumbled across it and the good old memories come back :)

  • Gorgeous set! Lovely song! Always liked Bossa Nova! Very sophisticated! The talented and lovely woman can sing!:D

  • oh yeah, gary burton..the double mallets.

  • this was the time where talent made you famous... not auto-tune..

  • I love <3 this song but the lady seems not to happy or sad or mad or any other emotins she seems so bored.

  • Gary Burton was like 12 yrs old

  • Sixty-one people simply have no soul.

  • It's all about the "Sax" not so much the singer. If I listen without looking at Astrud I get that sensation of a naiive young Brazilian babe ambling down to the sea in her Rio bikini as I look on. But when I look at Astrud..........any sense of sensuality or girly appeal just goes down the gurgler.

  • So simple,so beautiful,so satisfying. You don't see or hear music presented in this fashion anymore. What a special magical time it was for music back in the 1960's.They created great melodies and made real music back then.Today, most of the music is processed and electronic and noisy. Oh,if only I could find a time machine and travel back to relive those years.

  • im 17, black, and love hip hop.....but i heard a clip of this on a commercial, spent about 2 hours trying to find the song, and i love this

  • sweet song

  • If Anna Paquin and Jo from the "Facts of Life" had a sister, it would be her.

  • I love me some Basso Nova

  • Same here mystiquetopaz

  • Hearing Amy Farrah Fowler playing this song on the harp made me come here (it was one of those "I heard this song before, don't know who sings it but I love it" moments)

  • @mystiquetopaz I do have the same reason.

  • @mystiquetopaz Likewise xD

  • @mystiquetopaz its a tom jobin song...

  • @mystiquetopaz exactly ^^ i know i heard it in scrubs, the janitor was dancing on it..

  • sheer brilliance...

  • she kinda reminds me of nancy mckeon from facts of life haha

  • i love the way she just stands there and sings, emotionless like someone is forcing her to sing

  • I can't stop watching this...

  • apatica! não tem emoção alguma! só gringo pra gostar

  • I don't really understand why people like Gilberto's voice so much. I love this song, but I can't get into this version. The phrasing feels strange She sounds meek and unconfident. Her accent puts me off just a bit too. Just an opinion, though. :)

  • The perfect woman with the perfect voice!
