aprillia 450, 550 is the best dual you can buy, every 5000 miles you the to overhaul the engine though..every fix is very expensive also. I like the 400sm for reliability and price, you can mod it out for 1000 bucks and get 45 hp.. plenty of power to ALMOST hang with the big boys at half the cost if not more of a cost savings
hi im looking at buying a drz400sm and im restricted to a stupid poxy 33bhp licence and im not risking having my insurance void and getting prosecuted for having over 33bhp so what BHP would a drz400sm probably with a yoshy or smiular exhaust push?
Factory they put out 32hp at the crank. putting a pipe on wont make it gain huge power unless you do other supporting mods (ie jetting, filter 3x3 mod etc
that was the first run before rejetting so just seeing where abouts it was lean. the last part of run he still spun it to 8,000rpm (10,000rpm limiter on it). you cant hear it very well cause he is in a sound proof booth
hiya, can anyone tell me how the drz 400 handles, can you get your knee down etc?> n what are the top speeds, downhill and flat? preferably from someone who owns one and if possible, how they compare to the ccm 404 thanks
The DRZ handles pretty well and once the suspension is tuned it will stick with bigger motards or sportsbikes on tight roads or on small tracks, top speed is 150-160km/h stock and once there modded gearing changes can increase top end. never riden a ccm404 but a RZ does need work like cams, pipe, air box, carb to start making good power.
If you want a focused SM get a husqvarna SMR 450/510, Aprilia SXV4.5/5.5 etc. it wont be as reliable as a suzuki though!
Suspension is just a a matter of revalving and new springs if you want to go the whole way (around $600). i got most of the other stuff secondhand like FCR carb, stg2 hot cams, BB and full pro circuit system. the whole lot still worked out cheaper than a huski and it made 48rwhp on a safe tune. i ahve now sold it and got a cbr600rr making over 100rwhp so im having fun on that now. im looking for a new motard atm
Yeah the CBR is WAY faster. it does a 10 sec 1/4 mile compared to my drz which did a 13 1/4mile. 48BHP out of a DRZ is good but not extreme and its around the same power as a factory husky (if you work one of them they will obviously make more power).
The drz though with good tyres will take a sports bike through any twisty roads if you can ride well cause they have so much low down grunt and can handle rough/tight roads.
hi drz handles gr8 but you wouldnt want to be trying to get your knee down its not the right bike to try it on , if you get one you will need to spend some money on it cos there a bit slow stock
38.2rwhp with the pipe and 3x3 air box mod. I am getting a 440BB Stage 2 hotcams and a FCR to go on so should bump the power to about 42-44rwhp. Should have it all installed and dynod within the next few months (waiting on some parts atm)
what RPM does it redline at? thanks!
Andy2008230 1 year ago
@Andy2008230 It redlined at 9,800rpm

I hate when dyno videos dont post numbers at the end. Sweet bike though!

@kdarbs20z3 It made 38rwhp after the first basic mods (pipe, 3x3 airbox, filter and re-jet)

Lets add it up...
Stock 35hp
Exhaust 3hp
FCR 5hp
Hotcam 4hp
BB 5hp
Is roughly 52hp
But I would say closer to 50hp
If you check out thumpertalk and "eddie" he had a DRZ470 that he raced with about 60hp he has dyno graphs and parts list.... Very cool..
MonsterODSC 4 years ago
FCR and after market exhaust will bring you to 44hp a 440boring and hotcams should bring you closer to 50hp....
MonsterODSC 4 years ago
I wasnt expecting that much extra power.... cant wait :D
