  • you just made flywheels! :D

  • use it in war that should help

  • a more time consuming way to make Hotwheels tracks

  • look, this is pro made.

  • awsome ball gun

  • nice. good idea, and try a self reloading one, or one that has a light sensor that senses the ammo coming into the shooting area. then the sensor would signal the NXT 'brain' and it would turn on the tire rotation, and lift the pingpong ball into firing position. ^.^

  • I tried something like this but failed.

    Is it the gears?

I need to do that because of slowness.

Oh! I get it. It is math? More rotations?

    Am I right?

  • Pretty useless but cool :D

  • awesome!! well done my good man!! good show!! lol

  • i constructed a lego spinning top, out of lego knex and a motor that makes a car move when pulled back, and a wheel,

    success

  • well we're being "tested" on distance, how many balls we can shoot in 30 sec., and accuracy

definitely will try to get a video

  • ok iv been working on a ping pong ball thrower in class and i have the same disign as urs except sidewase i tried a big to small geer ratio with the bigger tires and got ok results but now im in the process of trying a big to small to big to small (same concept as urs) the only problem is like u said it takes a long time for the motor to get up to speed but hopefully ill finish tomorrow and have good results

have any suggestions for trying to make the ball go farther (also only have 2 motors)

  • If you just want distance, a catapult might work better. But whatever you come up with, I'd like to see a video of it.

  • is there any advantage to using thinner weels with a bigger radius? or would the wheels used on this one be best?

  • A larger radius will have a higher linear speed at the rim. But thanks to conservation laws, it'll also be harder for the motors to maintain that speed when you toss in the ball. I actually did try larger wheels briefly, but the motors couldn't keep up. Maybe more motors?

Also, the larger radius wheels have a smaller width, so you'll need to stack a few to make them as wide as a ping pong ball.

  • its 1:24

  • cool!

  • asum

  • Now, if you only attached a rotatier to that crazy thing... Put a shoulder strap, add a handle and a trigger... Hmm, maybe its too dangerious and the airplane company might ban that idea. But hey, DID ANYONE SEE THOSE LEGO PIECES IN THE BACKGROUND?!? HOLLY CRAP!

  • I've got all those pieces (and many more) in tiny drawers and on top of a special table now. The table sits 3. It's pretty awesome.

  • lol a lego ping pong gun would be awesome

  • LEGO is danish, U know!

  • Hmm You should make a row of ping pong balls and it will automatically shoot them for you and you hit it! When you hit it, The next ball shoots up!

  • haha. that rocks man.

it essentially the same thing as a baseball or tennis ball launcher, but small and with pingpong balls.

    cool man.

  • when you made the ball fly upwards , i like giggled a little :)

  • wow you have four motors

  • Yo put it on an axis so you can spin it flip it so its vertical point it at ppl then shoot!

  • holy crap!!!

  • lolz

  • you should use a golf ball and then shoot it at people.

  • Funny!

  • I'd shoot people with it

  • cool!!!!!!!!

  • cool

  • You could make it fully automatic.

  • And put millions of ping pong lego insertion workers out of a job?!

  • yay. lets make them paintball and the government would be all like, "you need a permit," and wed be like, "their just toys" and they'ed be all, "say whaaaat?"

  • We should make fully auto ones and go to Iraq with them, those highly powered ping pong ball shooters will sort out those terrorits

  • could u like take pics of like all angles and send it to me please?

  • howd you make this/what parts?

  • It's all regular technic parts. I don't have any instructions, if that's what you mean. I started finding two wheels that would just grip a ping pong ball when placed an integer number of lego studs apart. The rest just evolved.

  • When I was in the Navy and in the Philippines, I saw some girls that could shoot ping pong balls. Never did calculate the linear spead though.

  • Did you take drag into account when calculating the 5 m/s figure? Ping pong bizzalls have lots of resistence (as the French would have it), don't they?

Anyway, cool creation. Cleanest ping pong ball shooter video I've found on the internet.

  • No, I did it as a simple potential/kinetic energy problem: v = sqrt(2gh). It actually wouldn't be that hard to calculate the linear speed of the wheels directly, but I think they slow down significantly when they grab the ball.
