  • i love this song, gene and paul trading off versus sounds cool, great song to,

  • It's weird to see Ace playing an Explorer instead of a Les Paul.

  • it's all good till they start snappin' fingers.

  • whose playing guitar while theyre snapping ? long live KISS ~

  • @berntpaul This is the playback performance, typicall to the 1980's

  • @berntpaul This is lyp synched. The only one actualy playing is Eric. Of course he had to0 be perfect. But other than hime it was total playback.

  • they should do this song live, and the oath, both are super songs,

  • oh my god i love this song and album, but im surprised that ace isnt using a les paul

  • Best Kiss album, even if I am the only one who loved it.

    Sam

  • its excellent sure!!!!!!!!!

  • R.I.P Andy Gibb

  • The Elder had some good songs on it, just not a great KISS record.

  • haha, I didn't care about KISS anymore by the time this came out and I was only 11 years old. I had discovered AC/DC by this point :)

I do like KISS again however, and I'm beginning to appreciate The Elder a lot more, it really is an interesting album!

  • I actually remember this episode. I was 10!! Tnx poster.

  • @MikeP9171 ME TOO. I am 38 My dad shut it off and all these years later I got to see it AT LAST

  • Agora que eu percebi que o apresentador do Solid Gold é o Andy Gibb, irmão dos Bee Gees.

  • The one thing about Kiss, they kept things interesting with experimenting with different styles of music which is pretty cool.So many good tunes from every LP

  • Man, I remember Kiss performing on Solid Gold! those guys rock!

  • doesn't sound live...but still a cool performance. They should have toured with this...not a bad record at all.

  • I almost died when I saw this on TV as a kid. We had 4 channels back then and KISS weren't on any of them! I'd love to hear them do this live now (along with the Oath).

  • fuck! they're doing lip synch!

  • The only part I don't like is the snapping. I remember being a kid and being REALLY disappointed and confused about The Elder. There wasn't much press leading up to it, and it looked like they were also going to put out a movie (which never materialized) based on The Elder.

  • cool, Ace with his Hamer guitar.

  • @TheDemoarchive Hamer?....That looks like a Gibson Explorer

  • @68bobba No I thought that too look more closly and you'll see it's an Ibanez destroyer.

  • @TheDemoarchive No it's an Ibanez destroyer dude.

  • Comment removed

  • @damageplan67 cool, thanks man. All Ibanez Destroyers on Ebay have the pickup selector switch in a different place from Ace's Axe, which has it in the same place as his Les Paul.

  • I remember this as a kid. I went to the Animalize concert when I was younger. What a blast.

  • I've been aFan for 30 years, and I must say KISS' "Music From The Elder" was a kick ass album, despite what naysayers alledge...listen to "Only You"...awesome!!!!!

  • i remember being a fourth grader and waiting to see this on tv and missed it, i was a sad 9 year old

  • worse era of kiss ever!

  • @billhaley1868 If by worst you mean best then you are correct.

  • @Mikeraske nope, I mean worst, as in terrible. If I ment best, I woulda said best. Dont get me wrong, I love Kiss, I've been a fan since '76, but this sucks ass!

  • Dynasty and unmasked sucked. This album was cool..all medieval superhero and stuff.

  • This was horrible. Not even funny. In '75 they were truly one of the best bands, with a fresh look, and a lot of young energy.. The same thing that happened to them, happened to STAR WARS. It went Hasbro-Crap. Tough to blame them though. It had to. The Way of the world. No Country For Young Men, either. Easy to see how Punk came along and crushed it all; it was right for the picking. But dont let the punks fool you; they loved that shit. Thats why they took it all so personally.

  • Sorry but this is a crap song

  • It's all pre recorded. I think the crowd cheering is dubbed as well.

  • its a great song. I heard they tried to play it at a recent show and Gene could no longer remember the words. lol

  • @Bohopeacenik It was in Melbourne 2004, but KISS was playing this one on several sounchecks (full version ;) and I heard rumour that The Oath was played fully one time at the 2003 soundcheck

  • @KISSbestfan For the fans they should just relearn some of the songs off the Elder like this one,The Oath,Only You,Mr. Blackwell, and Under the Rose. It's funny how time flies by and now listening to this cd makes me realize how good this actually is.

  • @robzombys1 Couldn't agree more bestfan. It's a great album and I'm tired of always hearing Deuce and R&R all Nite...

  • @Bohopeacenik I relaly hope they put "I" back into the set, it's a kickass song!

  • EXCELLENT!!! Of all Kiss songs, Solid Gold actually gave them permission to play a heavy song with attitude-go figure!!! Kissbestfan, WE SALUTE YOU!!!

  • You may say what ever you want about the album, but one thing is obvious: This song is damn good!

  • @LifeIsGood63 -your right it sounds better than the 70s

  • they did edit the song...originally @3:46 it was "and the balls to stand alone". Since SG only allowed lip-synch, they must have re-recorded the voice trak

  • @MrSabbath2009 Yes, this song was edit and The Oliver FFM, that is Andy Gibb working as emcee. That's why all of those hot chicks are around to see him and not Kiss! LOL! But we know Kiss had their fair share of groupies.

  • is that Andy Gibb moderating

  • Too bad they were lip-synching here. Pretty good song actually. The Elder aint a bad album.

  • @Pacisdiligo never in my life would I imagine seeing KISS lip-synching. I went to three of their concerts and for them to do that is unfathomable. Anyway, what are u doing here searching for Solid Gold hits? haha. :)

  • @yakkydoodle76 They are most definitely lip-synching here. It is identical with the album version. No biggie, Solid Gold made performers do it. I remember the show, but didn't watch it very often.

  • i remember this and i was blown away... KISS rules...!!!

  • What's so bad about this song? Pretty good KISS tune actually

  • Geez- Andy Gibb- that is tragic

  • @Roggiedodgie Andy was great as well... RIP

  • @FilmNMusicBuff77 Actually he did Escape From the Island as well and a couple solos here and there

  • great guitar riffs here but man, by far the Cheesiest Kiss song ever!!! it would've rocked if they changed the lyrics : P

  • kiss was only kiss 73-79 this was a joke

  • The Elder is phenomenal.

  • @TheInnerStation I agree, i think really kiss fans know what The Elder is about.

  • @juampiiubi07 very true... i love The Elder... it was Amazing... :)

  • you must be smoking crack the worst kiss album is crazy nights best is right here the elder

  • @stewarthass14 i couldn't have said it better myself...

  • Has Ace grown as a musician? It's hard to say. He was smart enough to sober up from time to time. Or perhaps he was simply too broke to numb his brain. After he earned some cash, he was back to his old vices. So-has he grown? If I could hear some Ace demos from the KISS days, I might decide yes or no. Almost no Ace demos exist from back then. Ace had a family that took up his free time. Gene & Paul had no family, so they had more time to record demos and come up with ideas.

  • I'm sorry but you guys are all bad musicians if you can't hear the good things on Anomaly. Sonic Boom is ok as well. Actually our Demon hero Simmons has gone on record to state that Anomaly kicks ass. 80's Kiss and even 80's Frehley music was terrible. Both acts were caught up in the big hair craze instead of doing KISS music. Any fool knows this. Kiss didn't get back on track until hot is the Shade and hit stride with Revenge. I laugh if you call that musical growth.

  • IM LISTING TO THE NEW KISS ALBUM - THEN I DOWNLOADED THE NEW ACE ALBUM , AND SERIOUSLY LISTEND TO IT ALSO. THE WHOLE KISS ALBUM IS GOOD,EVEN SOUNDS LIKE AND UPDATED VERSION OF THE EARLY 70s. - now on the other hand i listend to ace's new album and there maybe 2 songs that are good ,and 2 others that are O.K. The rest isnt Ace worthy or KISS worthy. Some songs had sound effects like children playing in the back ground and that was a nice touch ,but HE JUST LOST IT.

  • I agree with lordzayvious. I ve been playing for 30 years myself ,and I think any real KISS fan who actually plays a guitar, can tell you there is a big difference between Genes playing on the duece ,than on the song NO,NO,NO .Clearly he improved a lot over the years. You guys need to actually listen to these songs on youtube, and make an intellegent comment and be honest, instaed of just sticking up for your favorite member.I repect ACE ,but he did not grow as a musician.

  • This is ridiculous. Are you talking about technical ability? You can't be. KISS' music was NEVER technically challenging and it got even worse after Lick It Up. I'm 35 and started playing bass at age 13 and I can tell you that Gene Simmons has never grown as a bass player and now that he's older he's even worse missing notes left and right when they play live. Paul Stanley,Ace Frehley,Eric Carr and Bruce Kulick and Maybe Vinnie were the only members of that band who had it goin' on.

  • You have a few thumbs down yourself dude.I as a musician,no fully well when someones style has improved or not.. # 2-it dosent matter if your 20,or 60 years old.If you can play ,you can play. Im so tired of Ace fans living in the past.He was and influence to a lot of people ,even myself .BUT ,when I grew up and actually played the guitar myself for 25 years,I realize that I WAS STARSTRUCK by the space man image ,and he wasnt as good as he thinks he is.Sorry for being honest.

  • All bands go through different stages. This was just one of many.Real KISS fans love the ups and the downs,.Ace made a lot of comments about what he wanted to do back then.,but guess what -this is better than aces new stuff, and this was 20 years ago.

  • You're on crack. Anomaly is a kick ass album. Don't forget that Ace was right about the direction of Dynasty,Unmasked and Elder being all wrong for KISS. Ace was a drunk that's for sure but his head and heart was in Rock & Roll. Gene and Paul cared about money and trends back then. The lineup of Simmons,Stanley,Frehley and Carr could have done some great things.

  • # 2 - People get the wrong assumption that a good song is a heavy song.Outerspace is heavy, but its not that great of a song. After 25 years,Aces music should be beyond awsome. He shouldnt be still using Kiss as his reason for being a fuck up.Hes had plenty of time to astablish his self as a independent musician(he hasnt)His guitar style hasnt grown since he started.Thank god hes was in kiss, because thats the only thing hes got going for him.

  • Boy, some of you people are transparent in your reasoning. I believe Paul Stanley has beat the "Ace hasn't grown" excuse many times. It's a dead horse and a dumb one at that. Has Paul Stanley "Grown" over the years? NO. Has Gene Simmons "Grown" over the years as a musician? Absolutely not. That argument holds no weight for people who know better. Ace Frehley is no saint but neither are Paul and Gene. They can fool people like you with their b.s. but they need better arguments.

  • Sorry dude,-I was speaking from my own thoughts, not Paul Stanleys. And yes, paul Stanleys playing has improved and grown over the years and so has genes. You can hear that clearly in the music from the early 70s till the 90s,but you probably didnt notice because the music wasnt heavy and you think every one is a sale out ,for doing something different. Ive been playing guitar for 28 years, and I know I could play Aces stuff when I was 12.- and his style hasnt changed a bit.

  • Newsflash dude, I listen to everything from Folk,Soul,Jazz,Classical, and OLD country. You name it and I listen to it. Style has nothing to do with growing as a musician. Paul Stanley's live to Win album from a few years ago is the only time in years he has grown as a musician. None of the KISS guys have ever grown. They have changed their style to fit the flavor of the day. I'll give you that.

  • I WENT AND LISTENED TO MY WHOLE KISS COLLECTION - IF YOU CANT TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GENE PLAYING IN THE EARLY DAYS ( 70s ) dr love.- - than in the 90s - -Love a deadly weapon - -Then you are either not a musician or you suck as one.And I dont think no one is talking about who is a saint or not..I dont have to listen to Paul Stanley say Ace hasnt grown,I just have to pop in the dam C.D. and listen to his career. The NEW KISS C.D. ROCKS FROM FRONT TO BACK

  • Ive been listing to KISS for 30 years dumb ass,and seen them more times than I can remember. AND BY THE WAY,THE NEW CD WENT GOLD BEFORE IT WAS RELEASE- KISS IS STILL ON TOP- SO PULL YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASS - KISS RULES.

  • @highonmoses AMEN to that. Absolutely spot on

  • @highonmoses fuckin right!

  • @highonmoses Anomaly is an atrocity that sounds like it was produced and mixed by a mentally retarded third grader.

  • @CaptainShinyJunk Sorry it sounds and is better produced than sonic boom which has way too much bass and sounds muddy.I am both a die hard Kiss and Ace fan.

  • @damageplan67 Ok first off, I never said that Sonic Boom was any better. I am a die hard KISS and Ace fan as well and being a diehard fan means I can tell it like it is on either subject. BOTH albums are poor in production quality and although there are some memorable hooks on Sonic Boom, they are all re-hashed from the 80's. Ace's album lacks ANY production quality. I am sorry to say this because I am sure you are a nice person, but you know NOTHING about production value on an album.

  • @highonmoses: perhaps but if you look at Dynasty it has Three By Stanley, Three By Ace, Two by Simmons, and One By Peter. The album as a whole is solid and fun to listen to. Unmasked, 5 by Stanley, 3 by Ace, Two by Simmons. 0 by Peter cause he was gone already. And MfElder 1 good song with a great solo Dark Light, and Escape from the Island which containts Ace's most unique and strong solo's. These albums like All KISS albums are unique and different. All have something special.

  • @highonmoses It definately one of those big WHAT IFs. I think that line-up could have been amazing. I think perhaps if Eric had a vote in matters it might have been different too. I think Ace had a good relationship with Eric. Plus Eric's tastes were more in line with what Ace thought they should be doing. You could hear that KISS' sound got heavier with Eric on the drums, so they should have went the way they did on Creatures earlier. Like I said though a big What If.

  • I remember watching this perfprmence when it first aired I was about 6 years old & I thought Kiss looked so cool

  • lol i made my mom buy me the official kiss makeup kit so i could dress up like the band members-i was six and had an ace frehley doll that came with a paper guitar.barbie was never the same lol

  • I hated this look. They were not acting like KISS. They were acting and dressing like Duran Duran. Sad...

  • the girls are like "whaaaaa....this aint rock n roll all nite'. its cool to see ace being a team player..knowing that he hated this album with a passion.

  • Wow- in the last verse they replaced the original lyric, "and the BALLS to stand alone", with "and the GUTS to stand alone."

    Bizarre.

  • Yeah, for tv broadcasts and radio. I first noticed it when they performed it live on the show Fridays. You can find it on youtube.

  • Somebody played it on radio??? You're kidding, right?

    haha

  • now i see why ace left, quit or was fired

  • Ace left via his attorneys. Or, on his own. Peter was the one who was fired.

  • we loved Andy and Kiss

  • Does anyone really think these teenage girls are interested in Kiss? More like they wanted Andy Gibb!

  • Great song from a great album !

    KISS 4EVER

  • No Wolf on the corner is better

sometimes dreams come true and some dont

the 7th elder seat...there was six...

but a 7th look at the pamplet or manual of the elder...eric singer the beaver bf...

eric singer is the chosen one take off the make-up for a year or two THE BEAVER is the chosen prophecy of the elder...

was it a dumb dream...I like Wolves...

    singer likes beavers, hawks...

    dont be just hanging around

    stay...presently no permantly...

  • eric singer licks beavers sir?...Titan sir?

  • Eric Singer should be The Shark?

  • If im not mistaken im pretty sure thats eric carr on the drums. Eric singer was there drummer for that album Revenge

  • You're not mistaken, it really is Eric Carr on the drums

  • the 7th elder seat...there was six...

but a 7th look at the pamplet or manual of the elder...eric singer the beaver bf...

eric singer is the chosen one take off the make-up for a year or two THE BEAVER is the chosen prophecy of the elder...

  • Didnt help them that they all looked like they came out of SUPERCUTS together look very calculated like metallica did when they all cut their hair at the same time and had the cuban pimp suits

  • I actually remember missing my cub scout pack meeting just so I could watch them on solid gold! i was to young to realize they lip synched the whole thing. It was worth it though, I didn't have Mtv and it was a rare thing for me to get to see a preformance. I was sooo stoked! I must have been because this was almost 30 years ago and I still remember it.

  • LOL, Look at Ace's legs at 2:16! Looks like he is going to collapse, probably he was!

  • Wow I remember watching this when it was first on.

  • Look at Ace Rocking a Dean

  • hate to be a pain butace is playing with a Ibanez Mini Flying V

  • Paul is playing a V Ace is playing an Explorer dude.

  • The explorer is made by gibson, this one is most likey a DT2000 destroyer made by Ibanez. I believe Phil collen of Def Lep has one on the photograph video

  • Its not a Dean it's a Gibson Explorer look at the headstock dude.Ace is a Gibson man.But this is the first time i've ever seen Ace not play a Les Paul.H'e who got me started playing guitar.I've loved this band since i was 7 back in 1974 i'm now 42 long live KISS who should be in the rock hall.

  • I actually liked his comet years washburn

  • I don't think that's a Gibson. I'm not sure who built it, I think it's a custom job. And it's not a Dean either. It doesn't have the original Explorer style headstock, and it doesn't have the typical Dean "V" headstock either.

As for Ace always being a Gibson player, that's not true. When he first started Frehley's Comet, he did an endorsement with Washburn, who built him a "lightning" bolt guitar. Problem was, he said it sounded terrible, so he didn't use it often.

  • Also, I've read where he said he's occasionally used Fenders in the studio, but only for playing rhythm guitar parts. He also had a metal bodied Veleno guitar, though I think he was unhappy with it. I recall he said something like "guitars shouldn't be made from metal".

And I've also seen video footage of Ace playing a Travis Bean guitar. I think you can see it on one of the Detroit concerts from 76, he pulls it out for one song.

  • it's a mini-Explorer made by the Steve Carr custom shop, he got this guitar in 1980 and used it in an open tuning for "Talk to me" live.

  • soild gold hit my ass the elder was there worst selling album ever but in my opion it is won of there best

  • This song is nice!

  • i love this song(i believe in me!!!!!!!!!!!)
