Can I just clarify that the Tilde key is not the same for everyone in different countries. In Britain, it it the @' key. Just between the semi colon and the hash key. Others are having problems tut vid, maybe it's time to explain where this key is for others around the world.

Hello mate ... if you use a UK keyboard then it is 'Alt + @' hold and draw the line then you'll get it ... dun knw about other keyboards but UK keyboard it definitely works with the above combi

I also found I needed to apply a clipping mask to the "zoom" effect to stop it spilling over the edges.

if the tilde key doesn't work for you, try pressing and holding the @ button. it's trial and error... if that doesn't work just play around with a load of keys and you'll find it

The only problem I had with this was the circle thing when you held the tilde key or the @ key i couldn't make a circle :/ but I'm using CS5. This is the first thing I've done on illustrator and it looks ok :D
