umm, what is the point in this? surely you may as well just be playing on your PC? if what i read from the description is correct, then your PC must be turned on, and playing the game, so why not just play it on the PC? i'm just a bit confused, this isn't an argument, more of a question lol
@sparda2005 Well I guess there are a couple of reasons for this. The first one is that if you like portability, then this lets you play games on a laptop anywhere in your house, and the laptop doesnt need to be expensive, or powerful enough to actually play the game itself. The other benefit is cost, you don't have to buy multiple copies of a game and install them on your main PC and 2 laptops, because you can stream the game FROM the PC TO the laptops. It's just a neat little technology :)
My god, look at the trolls on here. Bunch of Zealots. Stop ragging on the guy.
I use Ubuntu and I just found out about streammygame. I think it's a cool concept. Yes like VNC but for 3D games which IS new and different! No it isn't Wine or a native Linux game, but SO WHAT, leave the guy alone, it's still interesting and kinda cool.
This wasnt posted as a huge accomplishment, I didnt make the software, I am just showing it in use, as are many videos on Youtube. Yes, this software is like VNC, but you can't play 3D games over VNC, it isnt fast enough. This program yoinks the graphics output from memory and pushes it over the stream at the same time it displays it on the host computer. The overall effect is similar to VNC, but not the same thing.
I put Winex, Cedega and Wine in the tags because this is anotehr example of a program that allows people to play games on linux, either directly or indirectly. Just because this is not useful to you, doesnt mean that some people wont want to play games anywhere in their house on a lower powered netbook that is running linux. You can also use this technology to play Windows games on a PS3 that is running Linux.
I clearly stated how this works, and never pretended that the Linux machine was running the game natively. The tags are there to help people who might have typed "Fallout 3 with Cegega" to find this and learn about the possible alternative, since they wouldnt know to search for it if they havent heard about it before.
You might also mention that you have to run a proprietary binary not from the Ubuntu distribution that could possibly be doing other things like installing rootkits on your machine to get it to work.
Sorry if I'm going over the top, but I fail to see why to mention wine when you aren't demosntrating it.. Is the "stream my game" running in wine? OR is it the Linux version? See it's an effort to draw attention without any thing of significance.. VNC was around when I was in college (like 10 years ago).. I liked playing games on a SGI while in a web browser in java across campus on a Windows machine. It's not a big deal. It just seemed dishonest. That's all. Maybe you had no intent.. Anyhow..
What would be real is to point out that Linux can't run Windows games without Wine, but if you want to use something like an old laptop to play a game from your vista machine in another part of the house, that would say something that is truer to the point, and isn't going to give people the wrong impression. But there are always people on youtube with videos like charging a cellphone with a Banana. It's a lie.
When you put up a video, try to find what is remarkable. Use relevant tags.
BTW, check out my account, I've got Fallout 3, COD4 and a number of others running in wine, on Ubuntu. AND I DIDN'T USE CEDEGA, I USED WINE.. I even compiled wine for the particular versions of the game, and my installs still work, even though I've changed out Ubuntu about 4 times. See my video demonstrating Half Life 2 starting in Ubuntu 32-bit 7.10 and ending on Xubuntu 7.10 64-bit.
The game is running on Vista, he is playing it over his laptop.
But he bothers to put "wine", "winex" and "cedega" in his tags, as if to say "why run wine when you could stream the game from a Vista machine". I'm see so why are you running Ubuntu? What does the Ubuntu have to do with this?
Nothing.. It's as passive a contribution as a Windows based laptop.
I'm confused, what do you mean? I am actually playing the game, using the inputs on the laptop, and it is outputting the video to the laptop, but the actual processing and video rendering is happening on the PC. Think of it like an advanced version of VNC for games.
Because people who dont know about this technology obviously won't know to type it in to the search box. But someone searching for "how to play fallout 3 on linux with cedega" might come across this video and realise there is an alternative.
What I mean to say is the tags had cedega, wine and winex, but he's demonstrating something like VNC to play a game running on Windows. So retard, tell me why he used WINE tags with a non wine setup?
BTW retards don't usually have degrees in computer science. Who's the retard?
No retard, he is playing the game over a stream, from a machine that is a windows machine. It's basically VNC for a local area network. It's okay if you like the idea of playing a video game from anywhere in your house, but it is presented as if was some great accomplishment. I think it would be more to the point to show it being played on a PSP or something that couldn't possibly play the game, to clue people on to what he is doing. Check my account, I have Fallout 3 running in Wine.
The version I used in this video was teh free version. I'll admit it's not exactly HD quality, but it's plenty good enough to play on without it being too noticable.
I don't see how showing people a useful tool they might not know about is either not impressive, or a method of proving my ignorance. Go troll somewhere else.
I dont remember calling anyone anything but I tried several games to stream from my desktop pc to my laptop and the lag and hickups I had just made it totally unplayeble.
I'm honestly not sure, however, since there is a linux client, it stands to reason that you should be able to get it to work on anything that runs linux. For example, I know it is possible to stream PC games to a PS3 using this method.
Hey, that's pretty cool man. I've got to give this a try. Been holding off on buying this for my 360. I might get it for PC if I can run it like this.
is there any lag normally

Or a Pentium2 with MMX.. Or maybe even a palm pilot.. Doesn't sound like a real point.

Okay, look at his description:
He has a laptop with Ubuntu on it.. Big whoopee..
He calls his Vista machine his main machine.

He's not really playing it..

cedega IS wine
N2K10 2 years ago
Wine is not Cedega.. But Cedega is a decendant of Wine. Cedega is actually a proprietary side implementation of wine.
However, there is a commercial version of wine that does contribute back to the wine project. Cedega doesn't.
