I got a question about mouse lifting. I just started to play FPS's without acceleration and I still have issues with it.
Everytime I have to lift the mouse up to make a 180° turn or a bigger movement than my wrist can do, I feel like loosing time or being in a weak position to aim. It seems you're doing it very fast, but don't you still feel that way? I got a similar sensitivity to yours.
Atm I wanna make my mind up about acceleration, with or without, so I'd like to know how you feel about it.

@Psilionimus I played UT hardcore from 99 to 2004, was decent, won a CB cup in BT mod (like defrag for Q3) I thought UT99 was the nuts and Q3 was slow shit, but the fact is outside the custom maps of bunny track UT really lacks movement skill.
Q3 CPMA or even OSP is simply far more challenging and has a far higher skill cap due to the movement skill involved.
Ordinary Q3 and QL i agree are inferior to UT99.
Shame the only QL mode worth playing is CA since it doesn't feel abysmally slow.
@qpurr and if u fell so powerfull in UT99 just join MokumX duel server ..my nick its MzytengaM . am not good player compare to that PRO from that server..just try DV 1,2 or players for this join MokumX DuelServer or be around there..and forgot aboute Multiplay GB shit Host servers..i was play there with ping 10-30 but with lag like 3000 ping..so
@JenPerdsMonLapin I think you'll get a different answer depending on who you ask the question of. I'm no Quake player, and I use a much lower sensitivity so I prefer no accel as I like the movements of the mouse to be consistent with the speed that I swipe (so no over/underaiming). In my experience most of it is personal preference and subconscious though as long as you're not skipping pixels so just give yourself a while to practice with and if it still feels like shit then try something else.

I have been playing openarena for for quite a long time. I only today heard that its basicly a quake 3 mod. Now I got quake 3, but for some reason I have to download all these mods and maps and so on to even get on a server. Its very confusing for a new player.
Does anyone know a site where I can find all files/downloads I need to play this game?? :/ (im already 1.32 on updates)
In CPM there are double jumps, ramp jumps, air turning, a more elaborate armor design and instant weapon switch. This makes the game a lot faster. Whether or not this is actually _better_ is obviously a matter of preference, but the fact is there is more to learn in CPM than in VQ3 gameplay.

well, I watched some gameplay vids... man, this CPM is MAD. It seems to be somewhere like quakeworld in pace, but with significantly higher aim requirements. I can't find any difference between Q3 and QL in vids(and I played Q3 too long ago to compare), but the difference between QL and CPM is HUGE, it's like 1.6 times faster no less.
Anyway, Quake Live consolidated and revitalized the classic DM worldwide community and brought new people and money there. You have to acknowledge that.
@astaridk CPM movement is better yes, but the quick switching detracts from the gameplay imo, since it lessens the decision making of the player. I think QL is in a good place but could use some tweaks, don't pretend CPM was flawless.
@astaridk I don't agree that air control and fast weapon switch make for a better duel game. What keeps QL from being as good as VQ3 in my opinion is the the way the hitboxes were handled, the weapon dmg and dmg radius, too much splash dmh with rox, lg gimped , rail 80 dmg instead of 100, truelightning 0 broke (has to do with hitbox problem) etc etc. Adding CPM movement and fast weapon switch wouldn't make me want to play QL anymore than I do now.
@astaridk i totally agree with you, Quake Live should bring back Quake, cool its available free and only thing needed is web browser, but without pro-mode its not so fun to play. I dont think its "super hard" to make Quake Live CPM or other mods(like defrag) after moving whole game to web browser. I dont know the reason why they didnt make there mods available too

While the difference might seem minimal, it is basically a more free type of Quake, where the player, (with practice) is pretty much unlimited in neat possibilities of trickjumps, fast frags, movement etc. to put things in perspective:

It's way different! To really understand though you need to feel it by playing. The weapon switch is instant and your max speed is considerably faster.

@nyamcz depends on your graphics card. I had nvidia at the time and in the driver you would add a custom timing... Like 1024x768 with a vertical refreshrate of 120 hz. There are other tools to do it as well, like powerstrip.
so how active is q3a these days? i was thinking of buying it, but it sounds like its dead..can someone tell me how many servers are up at peak times (with at least half the server full)?
i must say quakelive has to be the worst from ID yet, took since june/july 2009 (open beta) to may 2011 to release a decent amount of maps for premium servers that are dead anyway...and we all used to play those maps back in the day on q3a/osp etc and didn't have to pay for em
Just goes to show the importance of knowing a map like the back of a hand. I am very good at Quake (mainly quake3 and QL) and have had the usual claims that I am a bot the good layers get (is that flattery or insult :D) but on some occasions my failings are deffo not knowing a map well enough such as were a portal will bring me out etc. Well played bud

@Amotisthekiss no, i think you need to play a lot more than i do to keep top aim using accel. It's better to not use it imo, but thats a topic of heavy debate.
@TDAProductions12 To be honest i played the game for so long that i change models every few years for variation... Started using Ranger, then moved on to Doom, Visor, then Anarki, Crash, mynx, and now i'm using bitterman as the model... For teammodels i use crash, and the reason is just that they appear smaller and have a remarkably different sound than my enemymodel which is keel.

i just started playing CPMA, i bought Q3 on steam, and tbh, its much more fun than QL, it seems much more fluid, like.. theres more flow in CPMA, when you strafe jump, you cant do it easily in corridors when there is a turn in QL, but in cpma you can, plus, the weaponswitch possibilites are just awesome! :) but well, its preference i guess. but i would recommend cpma, its good aim practise too.
And well, really, cpma is something qw players made so they didn't have to adapt to the new gameplay, imo. I don't mind playing cpma or qw, but vq3 gamestyle I like more.. Anyway, vq3 part of cpma is for sure > ql.
Why the hell would Quake Live become CPMA? Sure, it would be nice for them to hav ea CPMA part/mod or something for Quake Live, but making Quake Live into a CPMA remake is stupid and could shatter a big part of the Quake community.

i must say quakelive has to be the worst from ID yet, took since june/july 2009 (open beta) to may 2011 to release a decent amount of maps for premium servers that are dead anyway...and we all used to play those maps back in the day on q3a/osp etc and didn't have to pay for em

Just goes to show the importance of knowing a map like the back of a hand. I am very good at Quake (mainly quake3 and QL) and have had the usual claims that I am a bot the good layers get (is that flattery or insult :D) but on some occasions my failings are deffo not knowing a map well enough such as were a portal will bring me out etc. Well played bud

@fladlagkage thank you :o) i don't use mouse2 for anything in cpm, in Quake Live i use it for +speed(sneaking) but since there are no footsteps sound in cpm, i just bound it to fire, so i don't touch it accidently.

@Amotisthekiss no, i think you need to play a lot more than i do to keep top aim using accel. It's better to not use it imo, but thats a topic of heavy debate.

@TDAProductions12 To be honest i played the game for so long that i change models every few years for variation... Started using Ranger, then moved on to Doom, Visor, then Anarki, Crash, mynx, and now i'm using bitterman as the model... For teammodels i use crash, and the reason is just that they appear smaller and have a remarkably different sound than my enemymodel which is keel.

i just started playing CPMA, i bought Q3 on steam, and tbh, its much more fun than QL, it seems much more fluid, like.. theres more flow in CPMA, when you strafe jump, you cant do it easily in corridors when there is a turn in QL, but in cpma you can, plus, the weaponswitch possibilites are just awesome! :) but well, its preference i guess. but i would recommend cpma, its good aim practise too.

And well, really, cpma is something qw players made so they didn't have to adapt to the new gameplay, imo. I don't mind playing cpma or qw, but vq3 gamestyle I like more.. Anyway, vq3 part of cpma is for sure > ql.

Why the hell would Quake Live become CPMA? Sure, it would be nice for them to hav ea CPMA part/mod or something for Quake Live, but making Quake Live into a CPMA remake is stupid and could shatter a big part of the Quake community.

astaridk i agree with you but QuakeWorld is where the real quake experiance is at unfourtanly its dead as hell and so is CPMA but both are such great games
but quakelive is where the pro's are at atm, and quakelive has great graphics and lag with the LG is almost non existant, anyway nice vid and skills and if you do play QL occasinaly hit up GanjaaMan
