today i was on a horizon flight and a bird struck the front of the plane, and the mechanics were checking it out so we were gonna have to sit on the ground for a while before taking off. so, i nervously decided to walk up to the flight deck thinking i'd be turned down because of regulations or something, but the two pilots saw a shy, starry eyed dreamer and just said "come on up" i got all the info i could ever want and i got to talk to my idols. I'm 14 and I will be a Pilot.
This brang a tear to my eye. soo beautiful yet soo true. I believe we can all fly if thats our dream. Pilots are a varry rare breed. good luck all future pilots. you all belong in the skys!!!!!

At the risk of poo-pooing on the parade, if you say "I want to be an airline pilot", you might as well say "I want to be furloughed with a five- or six-figure student loan to repay." If you're going to do it, make sure:
You're single, or at least no kids
Have a degree in a high demand field (i.e. nothing to do w/ aviation)
Have a substantial "rainy day fund".
Otherwise, you'll end up in a van down by the river. YOU WILL BE FURLOUGHED AT SOME POINT IN YOUR CAREER.
(con't) I can tell you horror stories of guys I know that didn't do any of the above (college loan, flight training loan, new house, newly married w/ an infant at home). The wolves are clawing at their door. Wait til you're far up the seniority list to start a family, then you should be okay. Other than all that, yeah it's AWESOME. Steep learning curve at the beginning. Imagine all you've learned from student pilot through commercial/Multi/CFI. Take that amount of info and cram it into 3 months
That's the training profile. Be prepared to live/breathe/eat/drink/sleep the training. You will be doing checklist flows in your sleep (not joking). Once you come out the other end and get settled in to the routine, everything will click together. After that, flying line is a snap. Good luck.

Keep dreaming guys, just remember, every pilot starts at the same place... at the bottom. So don't get yourselves down, you can do it, though it may be hard in these times, success is always achievable.

For me about 90% of this is true, but unlike EpicGamer249 I dont talk to my pillow, that's over a bit over the top. I have spoken to people who have aplied for sponsered courses, they have told me that people who just want the eventual huge salary and other things are found out quickly. He told me that they look for the passion and determination as the most important quality's almost on parr with academic quality's.
That is SO me man! You know what I also do a lot? I do the "lady's and Gentlemen from the flight deck, we are now at cruiz of 37000 feet" I do that a lot! its kinda fun, even on my simulator too, when i reach cruiz lol. OMG....This video is SO TRUE. I never new there was otheres out there. None of my friends even slightly care about flying or planes. We are all the same!
ok but in doing that you keep lowering the bar for everyone else. The industry has been turned into nothing but glorified taxi drivers. low experience for low pay. I would like to have the training regulated. Like they will only give out 100 commercial and 50 atp's per year. Then the balance will be right. If you wanna go fly then go fly, but to fly professionally you have to apply and it's limited. That would raise the salaries a lot.
Or you could get a JAA liscence and fly in europe and get paid about $100k as an fo on a starting wage. I've got 500 hours in a 737-800 for my first job and i'm on a considerable amount more than 18k, trust me.
You know what? Us ORDINARY people just thought of a dream. And NOTHING will stop us. We dont go around criticizing people yet incurrage them! We dont care if its limited! We are the best and we WILL make it.
well you ordinary people take these jobs for 16,000 a year and dont know what you are doing with your zippy little jet. Then a lotta people get hurt or killed. It's bullshit what they pay regional pilots, but as long the ordinary people want cheap tickets I guess a few "losses" are acceptable.
Sure, i few losses are scceptable, and thats cool. You dont have to pay, you know. Join with the Airforce, learn under THEIR flight lessons and train with them. Its quite a good deal, collage, and flight lessons, then go over to comercial. Its always possible. I also understand the way you think, though i dont support it. and its very true that pilots are a rare breed. i mean in an entire school of 2,000, maybe only 30 want to become airplane pilots at MAXIMUM. at my school, of the 2,000 there are like 7/8 that wanna become pilots.
go be a doctor...then you can afford to fly yourself. What irritates me is rich kids go to flight school and spend 50K to get a job that pays 18K......sounds like you need more schooling. Take it from me, go do something else then you can fly for fun.
if it wasn't for my mom's negative outlook, i would have been a pilot by now! it's always been my dream. so here i am, stuck in college trying to pursue a degree that i don't want to have.
you can still become an airline pilot without an aviation degree...as a matter of fact its recommended that if you want to become one you study something non-aviation related in college.
yes, I'm just saying that even with 4 years getting a biology degree or whatever you can still do flying on the side or even after college and build hours to become an airline pilot. It's not neccesary and not even recommended that you major in anything aviation related to be hired by the airlines as long as you have the hours and ratings. I can tell you for sure a major airline wouldn't turn you down for a job because of a biology degree...or any for that matter.
lol sounds like me every time I drive in my car. I check gas, heat, mileage, plan routes w/ GPS, watch my revs ect. Am I crazy?

i sit in bed practing me call to the cabin, tellin my pillow the crusing alotitude and when we expect to arrive at out destination,
People laugh at me, as i can sit for hours studying planes.
I buzz when i see the captain or F/O when i fly,
I feel like a goof when we are doing the takoff of role, and i am sat there and under my breath i go V1 V2 route, Postive rate of climb-Gear up-.

Amazing it is that we humans have come up with a way to move such a huge object as a 747 through the sky.
I am even more obsessed with fighter jets they are simply amazing.

ok but in doing that you keep lowering the bar for everyone else. The industry has been turned into nothing but glorified taxi drivers. low experience for low pay. I would like to have the training regulated. Like they will only give out 100 commercial and 50 atp's per year. Then the balance will be right. If you wanna go fly then go fly, but to fly professionally you have to apply and it's limited. That would raise the salaries a lot.

Or you could get a JAA liscence and fly in europe and get paid about $100k as an fo on a starting wage. I've got 500 hours in a 737-800 for my first job and i'm on a considerable amount more than 18k, trust me.

well you ordinary people take these jobs for 16,000 a year and dont know what you are doing with your zippy little jet. Then a lotta people get hurt or killed. It's bullshit what they pay regional pilots, but as long the ordinary people want cheap tickets I guess a few "losses" are acceptable.

Sure, i few losses are scceptable, and thats cool. You dont have to pay, you know. Join with the Airforce, learn under THEIR flight lessons and train with them. Its quite a good deal, collage, and flight lessons, then go over to comercial. Its always possible. I also understand the way you think, though i dont support it. Not saying we have to make enimies with 2 openions. I want to see your responce, reply

and its very true that pilots are a rare breed. i mean in an entire school of 2,000, maybe only 30 want to become airplane pilots at MAXIMUM. at my school, of the 2,000 there are like 7/8 that wanna become pilots.

go be a doctor...then you can afford to fly yourself. What irritates me is rich kids go to flight school and spend 50K to get a job that pays 18K......sounds like you need more schooling. Take it from me, go do something else then you can fly for fun.

you can still become an airline pilot without an aviation degree...as a matter of fact its recommended that if you want to become one you study something non-aviation related in college.

that was liek my maths teaher... he wanted to be a pilot and he still does but now hes a maths teacher

yes, I'm just saying that even with 4 years getting a biology degree or whatever you can still do flying on the side or even after college and build hours to become an airline pilot. It's not neccesary and not even recommended that you major in anything aviation related to be hired by the airlines as long as you have the hours and ratings. I can tell you for sure a major airline wouldn't turn you down for a job because of a biology degree...or any for that matter.

good afternoon this is your captain speaking....
lol sounds like me every time I drive in my car. I check gas, heat, mileage, plan routes w/ GPS, watch my revs ect. Am I crazy?
