Its called added value. Apple can charge a lot more for their products because they have shit loads of prestige with the consumer market! Also, the spec is better than your average $400 computer. Thirdly, the amount of software you get free with it, for example, Ilife11, garageband etc.. contributes to the cost. Learn about a business before slagging it off.

The userbase of Windows is soo much bigger than mac's userbase that hackers, scammers and trojan horse-makers don't think it's worth the effort to make it mac compatible while it's really easy to bypass the little virus protection Mac has.

Mac is in fact over-priced , my cousin's Mac crashed 3 times now in 1 year while my pc has never had the bsod.

His mac got hacked while i never got.

Soo Mac's are overpriced and just over-complicated machines.

Let me tell you a story. I used to be a big PC supporter. Used Windows since 3.1 & got MacBook Pro 15" as a present. After my main PC died, i started using Mac as a primary computer (temporarily), and still using it (4 months). I am a graphics developer and Mac is great. It's very fast and software runs extremely well.

In regards to hardware, Macs are incredible as well.

My Macbook Pro has 2.4 Ghz, 4Gb DDR3 ram (upgraded from 2), DVD-RW, camera, lit keyboard, great battery, good speakers etc. I run games like Call of Duty and Urban Terror on it on MAX settings and they fly! Even on my old Win7 machine they weren't as fast (it was dualcore athlon 4200, 2gb ram, geforce 9800 gts). and don't forget, that was a desktop, and i am using a notebook. So, hardware wise - it's superb!

The majority of the price comes from those 3 aspects. The PROFIT they gain is from the fanboys and people who buy them for media applications.

Instead of charging for the amount of material used, they show off their level of precision, and show off it's features, which is completely irrelevant from it's price.
