As a die hard Avs fan I gotta give a HUGE amount of respect to Steve Y...we had our #19 too who was pretty good. Sakic & Yzerman were and are to this day 2 of the longest serving Captains in NHL history.
If I could hear Yzerman's thoughts while he was on the rush leading up to that goal, I would imagine them to be something like, "Enough of this shit."
I've seen plenty of his goals, but he almost NEVER shoots that far away from the net! And when he does, it's usually saved. The fact that it's so improbable just makes it even more amazing! I love it!
i think theres always the fear that after you score a game winning goal, you're going to suffocate when your teammates jump on you like that, no really i think its pretty damn dangerous!
@gamester501 game 6 of the western semi finals...they went on to win their second straight stanley cup about 3 weeks later so yea i would say it was fairly significant
This is a good comments by someone who appears to be a stand up guy. Thank you for the honest comments. Yzerman is a great hockey player and he is missed greatly on the Wings. Thanks again guitarz330
This has to be one of the greatest if not THE greatest shots in NHL history. Look how far away Stevie-Y was when he shot that puck and it was an airborn shot too. The crowd is going so crazy, the camera was shaking.

1996 Western Conference Semifinals, Game 7. Yzerman's goal in double overtime pushed the red wings into the Western Conference Finals where they would lose to the eventual Stanley Cup Champions, the Colorado Avalanche.
I played at Joe Louis arena as a second year squirt and got autographs from all the wings and Canadian players besides two...a player named Daniel shank and steve yzerman. All the other players were happy to sign for the young players as part of the deal to play at the Joe. I remember watching shank and yzerman walk through a side door to avoid 24 youth players. Thanks for the memories Stevie Y!!
Haha!!!! Look at the two idiots waving!! There like "everyone watch us miss the greatest goal in NHL history" ('cept maybe Bobby Ore one where he takes the dive) I would have killed to watch that live. I remember my dad let me stay up wayyy too late to watch that, n us screaming at the tv when stevie let that rip, N my mom, screaming at us to shut up, and telling me to go to bed.... I love this player and love this goal! Not many other goals beat this one. Oh and does anyone else know who turns the puck over to him on this play? yes thats right wayen Gretzky thats who. -1 in a 1-0 game lol
that still to this day has to be the best slapshot i've ever seen. from that distance, he tucked it right into that corner. Gary thornes voice makes it even better, hes 100 times better than no brains-melrose. Yzerman>crosby Thorne>melrose.

great shot ... but Grant Fuhr had a habit of giving up bad goals. The only reason he ever was good was because he had the best offensive line in the history of the game in front of him. Overrated goalie
