That's a really awesome groove! I'm still having a little trouble getting it down though. What is the order of the repeating pattern? Is it Rrl <-- Right lead swiss triplet, then Rll<-- Right lead flam tap, then Lrr left lead flam tap all in a 16th notes? Im really confused. A transcription would be great! Is the pattern basically in 2/4?
oh jacob, the beat itself. how did you go from flam tap swiss trips to translating it into that beat?" same thing you just heard sounds like this in another way" that beats cool so how to go from rudiments to beat.and your single strokes and jazz band playing were really great, very enjoyable to hear and watch , cheers
I'm sure Stanton's is slightly differently, it sounds very similar though. Stanton uses one of his variations on the Rrl Rrl Rl New Orleans style sticking but leading with the left hand on the hi-hat and cowbell like your groove. I think the tune he uses it in is 'Sprung Monkey'. Check it out!
Both completely different feels though, great approach!
i have should have a copy of something scribbled on paper... but for the next week or so it's Passover preparation, etc. quite busy... but PLEASE... bug me about it, from time to time, if you don't mind..
Swiss Army Triplets: l/RRL l/RRL l/RRL l/RRL
Flam Taps: lRR rLL
it's all played as continuous 16th notes (4 x l/RRL) and (1 x lRR rLL) = 16 (one measure)

Very hip way to play a groove and use rudiments in a musical manner. Thanks for sharing. I'll have to try this at home.

rrl rrl with the flams included

@JacobKaye
I've heard of flams but i've never really grasped how they're applied. It's like a ghost note really quickly before the "starting" note?
Like this: lRRL lRRL?

Brilliant funk rhythm, but I can't figure it out! Does anyone know how to play this? Just realised it's christmas day, merry christmas!

That sounded great, but do it again where we can SEE the cow bell. I assume you're playing the CB in alternate to the snare?

Dude you remind me of how Gary Chester played!!

I've heard Stanton Moore use this same groove!
CheezeyWeezey 2 years ago
If he is using it the same way I am... I'm glad he's using my groove... if he's using the same rudiment arrangement, then that's nothing new...
it's all good
thankyou

This beat blows my mind. I tried to play it and I got the cowbell, kick and snare, but bringing in the hi-hat is too crazy!
Do you have a transcription?
