If anyone actually witness the YS super volcano, they would not live to tell about it, the shock wave alone would kill any living thing if within close enough proximity.
Although the SFX in this scene are admittedly quite good, the scale doesn't even approach that of a real eruption. Were the Yellowstone supervolcano to actually blow, it would take tens of thousands of square miles of terrain with it and set every forest on the North American Continent ablaze simultaneously. Yellowstone is merely the caldera, not the entire volcano. That family would not be standing there watching. They'd be dead before what was left of them hit what was left of the ground.
@Gokut0 my video does not say the end will happen in 2012 just shows how planets align to constellations in the night sky as said in Century 10 Quatrain 67. If it comes true then it could mean anything from a major thunderstorm to an earthquake or volcano.
When I first saw the eruption on the big screen OMG it took my breath away. I know it was just a movie, but to see something like that it was awesome!!
not for nothing, while this thing could erupt, I dont think it neccesarily has to be a "super" vocano eruption. from what I understand alot of the chamber has moved deeper under the bedrock which might lessen any eruption to a standard kidn we experienced. its hard to know as the scientists themselves dont really seem to know.
@glennjridge moving under a harder surface might actually cause more build of the things that cause eruptions like gases steam etc. it has three magma plumes and three layers or "pools" of magma vertically
Pyroclastic flows move at 400+ mph for a normal volcano. So I turned this movie off when John Cusack out runs a pyroclastic flow from a super volcano exploding less than 3 miles away in a wrecked Camper . That flow is moving well over 1000 mph. Google Mt. Vesuvius and you will understand - in seconds following the eruption the pyroclastic flow there reached a town 20 miles away killing everything. Vesuvius is an ant hill of a volcano compared to the monster under Yellowstone.
@LazyBoy159741 actually that assumption is now considered to be underestimated. The Caldera there is most likely to be a VEI of 20+. They found ash from the previous Yellowstone explosions as far as California, Mexico, Canada and Pittsburg and the radius keeps growing every time we look in new places.
@olaf2046 That's because a VEI 8 is more than capable of doing that several times over. Also, you should consider that the VEI scale is logarithmic, so a VEI 20 would put out around 1,000,000,000,000,000 km3 (one quadrillion cubic kilometres) of rock, pumice, and ash. Since the estimated volume of our planet is just over one trillion cubic kilometres I'd be interested to know where the extra volume would come from.
@olaf2046 Yes, Woody Harrelson would have been vaporized almost instantaneously. In fact the best part of the sequence is when he gets taken out by a lava bomb and finally gets shut up.
@WMJCPA aww he was awesome... but the initial boom did destroy a big zone as its predicted too, though i have to agree that the INITIAL blow ALONE should be bigger than this but what the heck it looks cool
Yellow Stone has been having earthquakes for several days now.. Checkout Channel Dutchsense for details and see other related, A news channel tried to downplay it, just like in the movie.. F'n A.. They are calling for a full scale pole shift on Mar 13...

@UGLandrum: For my part, I plan to take shelter in Hollywood. Hell, they've survived all the other disaster movies lol. :)

Only one thing. You will not hear any sound until the shockwave hits you. When it does a really loud BANG.

@olaf2046 Vesuvius had a VEI(Volcanic Explosivity Index) of 5, while Yellowstone was assumed to have 8, so yeah.
