I'm a huge Purple from from over 30 years ago, but I listened to this without watching it at first, and the band are great, but Gillan, bless him, just sounds like an old past-it pub singer on this, just shouldn't have done this song.... Such a shame..
they sound about as good here as they did 40 years ago... I`m finding that Gillan's voice is different but just as good if not better... Also he has boo coo experience as the front man. It shows. LOVE the drumming too
DAmn this is great!! to bad Gillan can't sing like in the seventies. But Paice, Glover, Morse and Airey has to be some of the best musicians there is :)
I'm going to see them live at this years Jazz Festival :) Can't wait!
Also Highway Star became one of my favorite songs since they opened the first concert I got to see them with it. It just gets you pumped right away when you hear it roar live!
As much as it pains me to say it I think its about time they replaced Gillan. He just hasn't got the voice anymore. Dont know who they'd get to replace him though. Perhaps they could persuade Coverdale to come back because his voice is still not too bad ;-)
Edit; Ian Paice is either pregnant or looks like he need to loose some weight!!!!!

Ill never know how the hell Steve Manages to play like he plays using his guitar sooo low, I use my guitar almost to my neck and still need to practice for like an hour to play at his speed without making any mistakes, and he makes it look so damm easy.

@tilipens yeah you're right.i just watched their show.i mean its natural his voice is going with age.i think if you're gonna watch deep purple you cant expect a great vocal. But the music is still awesome.the others havent lost their touch.
i love this guitar, every thing is better then the bad stratocater that blackmor have, musicman is one of the best guitars i ever playd and steave morse is have much more soul then blackmore, even if blackmore have more technik
a lot of people talking crap about Gillan at 6:96, i my particular it made me laugh, when sang like a retardad and the like chiken, he´s just having fun and ti´s nice to see a band enjoying themselves on the stage. Of course we all miss Blackmore, but if you check the "NEC 1993" DVD out, you will see how Blackmore had some vey shitty attitudes, so in spite of loving hum, i prefer this line-up.
I would never deny Blackmore's position as an important part of DP. At the same time I have to agree Morse is an excellent alternative. I would never say Morse "replaced" Blackmore. They are 2 completely different guitarists. But the chemistry between Morse and Glover is awesome.
I think the MkVIIi lineup is a very mature sounding band. Perhaps not as good as some of the earlier Marks. But it is one I enjoy at my old age (and their's)
Not Gillan's best night, but the man is over 60, and hasn't exactly lived on vegetables and water his whole life. Gillan is a true rock 'n' roller, and great hardrock vocalist to this day. He can't hit those highest notes anymore, but he sure can rock, and by the standards make it f***ing great Live.
I doubt that! People like you like to think the worst between Gillan and Blackmore. Gillan sang like that over many of Ritchie's solos in 1985 and 1987 for instance. I have bootleg videos of those days, showing a happy Deep Purple playing Live. Gillan and Blackmore having a blast onstage together. Gillan singing like this over Ritchie's solo in 'Highway Star'. Check out my videos from 1987. I'm putting up a lot 'House Of Blue Light' tour videos.
Well put! Joe Lynn Turner sang worse than Gillan these days, when he was in Purple....singing the MK.II classics....and even MK.III's 'Burn'. JLT is a great commercial softrock singer, not a hardrock vocalist. He ruined every song Gillan originally sang on, in 1991.
Judging from this, sadly he's declined a lot since the Bananas tour i saw, that was pretty much dead on. Unfortunately soon it'll be time to hang up mic after 40 years of awesome performances which is a great legacy and achievement by any standard. Total respect and love for the guy, i hope he bows out with dignity before it becomes a joke.
What the hell to do people expect when Blackmore refuses to play with them? They went out and got a guitar that is more talented than him. He's not the original and I guess that counts for something but I'm more interested in hearing a good show.
Amazing, Steve really nailed the song here. Looking forward to the concert in November allready. Gillan is still in top form here, not like 5-6 years ago, but still amazing. I think they should have tuned down this song. I know Ian's voice is totally powerful, but the pitch of this song back in the 70's is now WAY to high for him. Sorry but I must say Mr. Gillan totally destroyed what seemed like an awesome performance of the Star
you cant so shit no more cause steve morse is in top 10 and inspires millions and millions of people, im a musician and im also an ernie ball user on there forum and they have met steve and nothing about steve has negative comments about him......im tired of you dumbass lowlife's trying to make your point when you just dont make sense! now shuuush! off go!
I have in fact met Purple multiple times excpet Blackmore and lord, but Steve as once i said a magnificent technician, is also errogant and he treats the little people he meets porle i have from him 3 or 4 autogrpahed picks, yes blackmore had his downs but his anger and lust to blow the rest of the band off the stage made purple a powerhouse, and look Blackmore worte a simple riff that is the most recognizable of all time. Perpendicular is gret album but is nothing compared to Macine Head
I can c by ur page tat u are a Die hard Morse fan and i can respect tat but u cant claim morse is beter tan Blackmroe without evidence, morse himslef sasy howmuch he respects blackmore and he likes to play solos how Blackmore used to. Yes he gave Purple new direction and sound, but when u say the words Deep Purple, do u think Steve Morse, or do u thin Ritchie Blackmore? Again this is all OPINION and no book says this man is betr i prefer Ritchie u prefer Steve just dont run ur mouth witno suprt
i know deep purple as deep purple not ritchie blackmore.... steve morse is not arrogant for the lat time, deep purple has a tight schedule in on the road 20 hours a day its stressful but you can say arrogant. rock n roll was so big, and thats how ritchie was voted "one" of the best guitarist, but the true and closest to any full musical accomplishment with every style there is steves got it in him. voted best overall guitarist 5 years in a row, in the top best guitarist. im done talking to you
actually he didnt lord, glover, and paice did i know ive met them all, even morse morse is very errogant he is still great player though, not as good as blackmore
steve morse is very arrogant??? do you even realize the crap thats comin out of you mouth?
lol talk about arrogant, look at you mister that dont know shit about music or even steve morse, ritchie is no near the music accomplishment like steve morse. you did not meet them so quit your lies mister you just, its pretty sad how you try and find something to point at steve morse when its not even true, i would never want to meet blackmore since he treats his fans like shit!
If you check out DP2005 "Perfect Strangers" at Hard Rock or DP2006 Montreux "Pictures of Home" Gillan is singing very well-he seems to struggle on this particular video.
wel...i think gillan is trying to hard...he has a decent voice...but he tries to proof hes just like his old times (and obviously hes not) still nice perfomance...glad to see morse plays the solo with that magnifical blackmore's structure
What a damn comment! It is always harder for singers to perform as good as in the past when they get older, but that doesn't mean it's worse, it just sounds differently!
sad to say it, but gillan has lost his classic voice. And Airey is good, but it just isnt the same without lord.

I think they should have tuned down this song. I know Ian's voice is totally powerful, but the pitch of this song back in the 70's is now WAY to high for him. Sorry but I must say Mr. Gillan totally destroyed what seemed like an awesome performance of the Star

Again this is all OPINION and no book says this man is betr i prefer Ritchie u prefer Steve just dont run ur mouth witno suprt

i know deep purple as deep purple not ritchie blackmore.... steve morse is not arrogant for the lat time, deep purple has a tight schedule in on the road 20 hours a day its stressful but you can say arrogant. rock n roll was so big, and thats how ritchie was voted "one" of the best guitarist, but the true and closest to any full musical accomplishment with every style there is steves got it in him. voted best overall guitarist 5 years in a row, in the top best guitarist. im done talking to you
guitarman2233 3 years ago
you can´t miss ritchie when you hear steve playing. he is a great guitar player and i´ve never anyone that makes a guitar sound like he does

actually he didnt lord, glover, and paice did i know ive met them all, even morse morse is very errogant he is still great player though, not as good as blackmore
RitchieBlackmore8855 3 years ago
steve morse is very arrogant??? do you even realize the crap thats comin out of you mouth?
lol talk about arrogant, look at you mister that dont know shit about music or even steve morse, ritchie is no near the music accomplishment like steve morse. you did not meet them so quit your lies mister you just, its pretty sad how you try and find something to point at steve morse when its not even true, i would never want to meet blackmore since he treats his fans like shit!

If you check out DP2005 "Perfect Strangers" at Hard Rock or DP2006 Montreux "Pictures of Home" Gillan is singing very well-he seems to struggle on this particular video.

Right, man!
The live a montreux is not a great vocal performance... The Hard Rock Cafè one is better!

Hey shut up! Don't forget about his young voice, now he is too old, but he sings still quite good. He's a big name

Nobody gonna take my car!!! Man he's good!!!! Gillan has the most beautiful voice ever. Sounds like he overcame a helium addiction.

wel...i think gillan is trying to hard...he has a decent voice...but he tries to proof hes just like his old times (and obviously hes not) still nice perfomance...glad to see morse plays the solo with that magnifical blackmore's structure
gre1990 3 years ago
btw, it's a pity that John Lord has left DP. He played the Hammond Organ very well! But Airey isn't bad at all ;)

What a damn comment! It is always harder for singers to perform as good as in the past when they get older, but that doesn't mean it's worse, it just sounds differently!
