Truly the best Toyota commercial I've seen. Same with the car styling. We NEED cars like that here in the U.S non domestic cars over here are getting UGLIER!!!
i love this stuff man! please all feel free to joing my Facebook Page dedicated to 3D Projection and Mapping...
if u dont trust links on the net, just go on FB and serch "3D Building Projection and mapping" I believe its the only Page on fb dedicated to this "Art form" :P
uhmmmm its a commercial for what? a beamer? a design/animation company? a car? a mainboard? i dont get it... whats the point of the commercial? the car is pimped up with cathode lights? seriously... this is a terrible commercial... awesome special effects, but... its a terrible commercial...
one of the least impressive uses of projection mapping I've seen but still. well done to a brave client who clearly spent a lot of $ on making this happen.
This is one top Add well done to Glue Isobar's digital film unit Gavin Rothery, the VFX expert behind the special effects on the Bafta award. its creative team used various special effects to light up the surface of the car Projection mapping, 3D animation and 100,000 lumens of light power were all required to transform a Toyota Auris Hybrid into a canvas throbbing with recycled energy.
i'm looking in to doing some projection mapping myself, i'm guessing VDMX & Quartz Composer was used?
i'm not quite sure how the actual projection works though, is it with projectors, lasers or a combination? if so how do you get an laser to interface with a computer?
any info would be a bonus.
spectacular work, some of the best projection mapping i've seen and the first time i've seen it actually creep in to advertising too.
@D3vel@noobdles Hi. The mapping was done using a custom geometry correction system which is based on the vvvv graphical development environment. As for the 3D animations and VFX, these were created using After Effects, Maya, Cinema 4D and Trapcode Particular. (1/2)
@D3vel@noobdles (2/2) The animation is shone onto the scene by 4x18K projectors and 3x10K projectors. There are LED striplights under the car and behind the props, neon wire around the tyres and inside the telecoms box, and filament bulbs inside the two wall lights. These were controlled by a DMX lighting desk synched with the animations using a timecode track.
Check out our 'making of' video for more (thanks @noobdles) - it's in the video responses above.
@nocaon It might look that way (though obviously we would never intentionally endanger anyone), but actually it's just light being projected onto the Auris Hybrid and surrounding objects (which are purpose-built props). To find out more about how we achieved these effects, have a look at our 'making of' video - you can find it in the video responses above.
@windowspiratato Not quite! This was just part of the set. Check out the 'making of' to see the set being constructed - it's in the video responses above.
That could have been quite cool had the director decided not to dominate the ad with a bogus audience and their lame fake reactions. Just let the fancy FX speak for themselves for FX sake.

looks nice.
but where is the 3D?
empPublic 1 year ago
@empPublic Watch the making off. In a nut shell all the projection is made in 3D software and then projection. its not 3D like in the cinema.

Amazing piece of creative work. It's also amazing how many attractive women conveniently show up when filming these sort of things. Love it.

i wish this video concentrated more on the projection piece itself instead of the hired audience they made sure we knew were enjoying it.
half the video was telling us how much someone else liked it, which just comes off as being extremely commercial and thus not truly "viral".
