I had to examine this video for my AP World History class. I hadn't seen the movie before, and some of the parts are just soo predictable. When she cutting the other wife's hair, I'm thinking "wait for the scream..." and sure enough, you hear her scream that she cut her ear.

Yeah, this movie is absolutely awesome but it's too hard to find the DVD, so I got it off the web somewhere. I hope they'll remaster it someday and publish it again. Perhaps with some making off-footage and interviews.

The most stunning part was when 四太太 was drunk and the part after that where 三太太 is taken away.

( whose face we never see)The horror lies in the utter hopelessness of their situation- trapped in a gilded cage, with no freedom or rights- yet their husband has the right to murder them if they displease him.

I have this movie on DVD. :D I also saw it a lot in the 1990s on Cinemax when it was showing. An enjoyable film. Though my DVD menu doesn't appear like this, this menu you have here is very nice. I like the cascading montage of "the wives" which were the central part of the movie.

Still a great film even today.
