  • you have to cut the male turtle´s nails.

  • @click2clip is that a question or a statement? If this is a question then the answer is no.

  • I bought it like that years ago, I assume another turtle snapped at it wherever they were bred. The turtle adjusted to it, perfers to use this paw to help itself get food into its mouth.

  • @m1ste2tea did one of your turtles break there nailson there right hand

  • @gceba2 nope, I bought it like that years ago, I assume another turtle snapped at it wherever they were bred.

  • wots the turtle done to its hand? :( xx

  • Why the song are so mysterious ?

  • What size of a tank will a RES (female) need for her whole life?

  • @Bleachfan0797 i would say 80 gallons and thats because you will need a place for her to lay her eggs.

  • nice tank, the pacu will get huge ,maybe like 3 to 5 feet

  • @TheCarvingman thank you, I realized the problem with the pacu, it was luckily sold to someone with a 260 gallon tank, a long time ago.

  • @m1ste2tea cool =-D

  • how much was the tank?

  • @DavidAlvarezMusic the actual tank was cheap, bought it used, however the rest of it I mostly made myself which was considerably more. total price is somewhere around $280.

  • @DavidAlvarezMusic i just find one in $5 dollars, in the news paper =-P

  • nice video! i love the top paRT of your tank! i made a similiar video chk it out

  • @111PeLaDo111 thanks!

  • Cut his nails?? Lolol.

  • @breeezy190 some other turtle probably nipped him when he was a baby, I bought him like this.

  • Male one is a old red eared slider

  • i got my red eared slider today :]

  • the second one was a male

  • is this a boy of a girl? because i have one but im not so sure on what its gender :O, got it as a present soo................ lol

  • @TeAmoTanto072909 male red eared sliders have long front claws when they mature, usually when the shell is around 4 inches long. there are also variations in the tail, and anal position on it, as well as the underside of the shell, but those are slight and hard to tell by. the claws are the best tell-tale sign of a male.

  • @m1ste2tea oh okay thanksss, LOL i got it mines a girl :$ LOL

  • Hey dude really nice tank!!!! but how did you get your turtles to not pick on fish because I had to take my huge cichlid and put in my tiny Comm tank cause he was getting picked on by my side necked turtle

  • what do you feed your turtle?

  • is a 55g good for adult RES?

  • @sammytheshark1 it can if you have a good filter, do you already have a setup or are you looking to set one up for a turtle? let me know what you have, I can give you more detailed information on what you will need.

  • what is that white and called

  • @eclipse8122 what?

  • @m1ste2tea sand wat is the wite sand called

  • @eclipse8122 if you want cheap white sand, get a bag of "play sand" from home depot. Its usually in the outdoors section, by the gravel, rocks and mulch, usually around 6 bucks for a big bag.

  • friend, is missing a leg?

  • @CuidadoZOO hey check out some of the older comments, I explained his claws a few times

  • @m1ste2tea

    okok, yes I see.

  • what happened to the res foot?

  • Is that little guy a cooter?

  • @hallowlibra its a baby red ear slider, shes much bigger now, check out my update on this tank

  • bamboo is poisenus to turts

  • @hanley2458 yes so was the pothos, I got rid of them

  • @hanley2458 no its not...i also have a red eared slider turtle and he loves bamboo he eats it...

  • @imaemokidable my turtle will try to eat every plant that grows in the tank, however many plants out there contain known irritants. so just be careful and do your research when putting new plants into the tank.

  • im going to buy another RES but its i have a baby one should i seperate them?

  • @TheMysteryman334 yes, you should. there is a real risk of the larger turtle causing permanent damage to baby turtles. I suspect that is how my turtle came to have only one claw on one of its paws. they nip eachother either as a mating habit or fighting over food or just by mistake.

  • @TheMysteryman334 I have two now in my tank and even with the smaller one half the size of the bigger, I still had to stop feeding them tilapia, they were going crazy over it and the bigger one bit the smaller one trying to get a piece.

  • @m1ste2tea ok thanks! what do you feed them do? i feed mine dried mealworms and he doesnt seem to like them but hes still alive so i i guess hes eating them...

  • @TheMysteryman334 meal worms are good, you want a high protein diet for the little one, fish fillet such as tilapia or haddock is good, dried shrimp is excellent, also get Repti-cal calcium powder and shake that up with a good turtle pellet or stick as a base of their diet, I just dump some of the calcium into the food container and shake it up, covers it all, helps the turtle grow its shell healthy. I also do earthworms from the backyard to all my turtles and fish, very good source of protein

  • @m1ste2tea cooked or un cooked tilapia? thanks so much for replying your helping me alot :)

  • What's Wrong with his Hands/Claws ?

  • @mrthori22 read below

  • why does your turtle not eat fish i want to put a fish in with my 13 year old res but i don't know if he would eat them or they attack him? tips

  • @AmazingJPRawson it can work... do you ever feed your RES feeder fish? if so he may think any fish you put in is for his dinner, if not I'd recommend you put in a fast fish that can hold its own ground. have lots of hiding spots crevices and caves for the fish to hide in. You want a fish that is at least 10 inches long. here are my recommendations: tiger oscar, green terror, any type of bass, jaguar cichlid, datnoid, red devil cichlid, midas cichlid. of all of these, put only one fish with RES.

  • @AmazingJPRawson This all depends on your tank size and water quality, how big is your tank? if its bigger than 125 gallons you can put some large african cichlids in there. they are faster and more colorful. there a few larger ones. specifically venustus, livingstoni, and some species of tilapia

  • at 1:45 is that a pirahna????

  • @LeafMaster7665 a small red belly pacu, a relative of a piranha... DONT BUY.

  • @m1ste2tea y?

  • The red ear turtle

  • I have the same turtle i have 1cm water no light and no filter I change water every 1-2 days he's happy he eats some kind of baby shrimps

  • are these legal in aus??

  • @mrsavagepanda I have no idea... google it,

  • R the fishys for decoration or r they for ur turtle to eat

  • @sscurlyfries76 the goldfish were first put in for the turtle to eat, but they were ignored and were allowed to grow to this huge size. now all of the fish are part of the main attraction!

  • what fish is that large black one swimming with the koi?

  • @vboytan its a red belly pacu, a mistake purchase. they grow to about 30 inches and should not be sold as pets. it was using up all of the oxygen in the water and all of the fish were breathing very hard because they were all competing for O2. luckily I sold him to a guy with a huge tank.

  • I think you should rename you're turtle wolverine.

  • @foxwijoro hmmmm what about the little one?

  • @foxwijoro "I think you should rename you're turtle wolverine."

Male Red-eared sliders have long claws which resemble Wolverine's adamantium blades. These longish claws help facilitate mating--as you may be aware--female sliders are often twice as large as their male counterparts so males need all the help that they can get--LOL!

  • @ourfamilyvideos808 speaking of which, is it normal for a 5 inch male to court a 3 inch female? theyre both facing each other flashing their nails in eachother's faces for a long time yesterday. I think its a female...

  • take your turtle to the doctor it needs medical attention

  • @THEDON5640 you don't know what you're talking about.

  • @m1ste2tea he is rite , do u clip hi8s nails or something ?!?!?1 why does only one leg have claws?!?! and there is only 3 on it!! dude, come on

  • @largepandabutt he is wrong, and so are you. please read multiple comments about the same question below.

  • You're turtle is gross man you see that bright green stuff on the shell? It's junk growing on it. Just gently scrub it off with a tootbrush. It's all slimy and junk but you gotta keep the turtle clean!

  • @barbieguirl see the updates

  • The music ruined it for me

  • @SkOpEd13 sorry, ill chage it just for you.

  • @m1ste2tea Why thank you good buddy

  • @SkOpEd13 sorry, that is just something i picked out from audioswap... not my favorite music either.

  • it like a fukin wolverine slider ahahahaha

  • why are his nails so long and the other paw has no nails o-o

  • @TommyYogo its a male that probably had another turtle snap at him when he was young. they're usually bred in a bunch with other turtles. but it doesnt seem to hinder him at all really.

  • Dr Evils turtle lol

  • y didi u add those fish into ur tank ???pls txt me back

  • @199252208 the pacu and the koi were sold. I now have a 9" tiger oscar in there and the two comet goldfish to eat whatever the oscar missed. they all get along well... almost too well. Nobody nips at each other anymore and the turtle sometimes likes to sleep next to where the fish sleep.

  • @m1ste2tea Hiya. Thats amzing cuz i was trying to add some fish into my tank , but my fish all died and my turtle tended eat other fish as my turtle is quite big which means tht i had to buy bigger fish , but it still didnt work. cheeerz!!!

  • @199252208 hmm, try a large common pleco, they get to grow over one foot and if your tank can handle the extra bio-load then its scales can handle the turtle.

  • @m1ste2tea Alright. thnx for your tip !!!

  • 1:05 wat happen to his hand

  • @iplaycod3andcod2 I bought the guy like that from the pet store. he is missing all but his pinkie claw on the right paw. chances are he was nipped by another turtle wherever he was raised. The handicapp has never impeded him and he actually uses it to help him swallow bigger pieces of food where the long clawed paw would not help.

  • @m1ste2tea oh is he okay

  • @iplaycod3andcod2 definitely, I bought him in 2008, he's been doing well ever since. I'm soon going to be introducing a smaller female turtle to his tank, I hope that his pinkie claw will give him just enough charm for them to mate.

  • @m1ste2tea i hope they do mate, i just got my turtle a month ago and every time i take him outside he likes to dig and just walk around then my mom said we'll get a kiddy pool and put rocks like the one "Red Eared Slider basking entering water" suggestions

  • @iplaycod3andcod2 thats a good idea. In the summer I have a 600 gallon inflatable pool, I put a plastic shelf in the middle of it as a basking platform. its pretty ugly and because I choose not to run the filter for it, the water gets dirty fast. I suggest not getting a huge one like that but a smaller one, something like 100 gallons, something that is not a big pain to refill once it gets dirty.

  • Awesome music, This is how it should be...Kudos to u!!!!

  • @loboalwin1 thanks! Im glad you like it, you should check out my latest update of the tank... it is finally finished(i think) and it looks a lot better.

  • Very Nice!

  • Does Your Turtle Attack Those Big Fish?

  • @abelflexes2 the turtle used to nip at the fins of the koi, and the pacu used to chase the turtle... or maybe it was the pacu nipping at the koi. either way I sold the koi and the pacu to someone with a pond and instead put an 8" tiger oscar in there. the oscar picks on the turtle and shoves him around, but for the most part they ignore each other until feeding time, then they just compete for the food.

  • wheres his nails

  • @waco420 I have already addressed this issue in comments below.

  • I want to put one of those sucker fish..that clean the side of the tank..But I'm worried that my crazy turtle will eat it. I put a baby RES in with my older RES that wasn't even a year at the time. And when the little on got sick..he ATE him. My turtle is fed ALOT and still is upsets with more food lol

  • @CraynLite if your big turtle is smaller than the algae eater then it should be fine otherwise your turtle is just going to have another snack.

  • @Hornproduction I bought him like that from the pet store. It looked like another turtle chomped off the tip of his paw when he was younger. but he doesn't let it impede him in any way, the only claw he was on that paw is his pinkie claw, which is kinda funny when he uses it to wipe his mouth.

  • what is the background music of this video?

    please tell me~!

  • @108423285 I got it from the audioswap option... unfortunately I cannot find the name of it now.

  • poor fish is missing some fingers

  • looks like a bitch to clean

  • @Timespartan111 I just siphon the junk from the bottom every time I do a water change and clean the plexi from time to time, the plants coverage and a new big pleco keeps the algae under control. so its actually not as bad as my other tank full of little decorations.

  • @m1ste2tea k

  • nice quality & detail. but LOL, is algae growing on that turtle's shell? xD

  • @maaanatee it does, I have to scrub his shell with a toothbrush every week when I do a water change.

  • Great set up seen many on here but I like your ideas. And many hours of love have gone into this tank which truly shows in the condition of your turtles!

  • @walsallcrew thank you! I have an updated video which shows some revisions to the setup... its called: Tiger oscar and red eared slider riparium setup update 3

  • check out my channle nice vid!

  • why do you keep fishes in the tank ? Won't your fishes eat the turtles ? Anyway...What fishes do you recommend me to buy ? (Small ones)

  • @MyStarTerrapins the fish are the one's that may get nipped by the turtle. I sold those fish, now I have a medium sized oscar in there that the turtle doesn't bother. I saw your videos, if you want fish in there as well, choose fast swimming short finned fish, something that is about the size of your turtle, in your case I'd suggest perhaps giant danios or 1-3 african cichlids such as electric yellow labs or red zebra cichlids.

  • ur turtle is missing its nails .. still super cute

  • ok so...iam feeding it dried up bloodworms and tubifex worms....he enjoys them much more than pellets,is that ok??

  • @ebanm100 thats fine as long as he gets pellets at least once a week. unlike those worms they contain more essential nutrients and vitamins. that all should be okay until the turtle is big enough to eat more meaty food.

  • ummm so could u guys help me out here...i have this cousin who recently rescued a baby res...but hes not willing 2 keep it...he keeps it in a goldfish bowl....or watever its called..

i DONOT think its ok,since i saw the baby last week and he's an in active puny little thing,

oh n yes he feeds him these tniy greenish pellets n ia sked him 2 feed it live earthworm bcoz he has a garden 2...should i adopt it?

n is getting a pond essential?

    PLEASE do reply back!

  • @ebanm100 tiny*

  • @ebanm100 and for the other one it is very important that you get a UVA/UVB bulb, the best one for the price is made by repti-glo, you can get either the 5 or the 10, both emit enough rays for the turtle shell to grow, without such a light you may as well not have it. both of them are around 10-15 dollars at a pet store. as for the diet, you can indeed feed it small bits of earthworms, some fish fillet, some turtle pellets and freeze dried shrimp or krill. a calcium powder supplement is also a

  • @m1ste2tea thanku..

no i...i reside in india...dont have the vaguest idea how its gonna b sold off on a web forum...i think i'll rather buy n adopt it rather then watch it being sold off,

oh n thanks once again...i'll buy an aquarium first then...

  • @ebanm100 first and foremost you should only adopt it if you are willing to spend a little bit of money for a proper habitat for the turtle to grow in. here is the cheapest idea I can think of. find a fish tank on craigslist (at least 10 gal, or get a 10 gal from a pet store(~13) then either commit to changing all of the water around every 5 days or get a good filter and change only half of it every week. get two light cones from home depot (~5 each) one with a red heat bulb for lizards and one

  • @ebanm100 a good idea, you sprinkle it on any food twice a week. your turtle should also learn how to eat veggies although not vital if its still tiny. you'll also need a basking platform that is completely out of the water and under the lights, it will help the turtle dry off completely and get warm. if this is too much for you I highly recommend that you give it away on craigslist or someone that can provide for it. keeping a turtle in a fish bowl is just plain wrong, and will kill it. GL

  • algae is growing on the shells.

  • @protocl no problem, I clean it off with a toothbrush every week.

  • that big turtles missing a hand

  • @tehkforce yeah, more of his claws than his hands, all but his pinkie claw. We purchased him like this and it doesn't seem to bother him. He uses it just like his other hand. Although he may have a hard time impressing the ladies with only 6 claws durring the RES mating ritual.

  • beautiful

  • @knight1987 thank you

  • what camera is that it looks nice

  • @AJunboxings it's a sanyo xacti HD1010. Its two years old and I'm still very happy with it. small, 10x optical zoom, very easy to use, lots of nice features. there are plenty of other Xacti models that have other features that are cheaper.

  • why aint the turtle goen after the fish

  • @full172 he does... at night, nips their fins a bit from time to time. other than that they were fine... I sold all of those fish now, and replaced them with an oscar the size of the turtle who is now chasing the turtle.

  • hey,

    Pretty cool setup..

im currently tryin few setups for my sliders..

    in my 10 gallon tank..

  • @grimmblade09 10 gallon???? I hope that your turtles are all under 2 inches... how many and how big are they? If I was stuck with your situation I'd fill the tank up to 75% and have just enough room for basking lights... that is a red heat bulb and a UVA/UVB bulb thats vital for shell growth. Change the water every week, all of it. and run a good filter. and that way you can see your turtles grow. Let me know if you have any questions, I'll check daily.

  • @m1ste2tea i have only one slider (sliders* was a mistake)..hes like 2.5"

and yep..i have a,good filter, basking area and heater.I stay in india..and the pet shops near me dnt keep reptiglo bulbs..so im still searching for one..right now im using a regular 40 watts house hold bulb.

i change the water completely every sunday..

  • @grimmblade09 oh well that makes a big difference. In terms of the bulb, I once had to use a 40 watt incandescent bulb as my heat bulb because water splashed and got to my red bulb, but in terms of UVA/UVB emition, Im doubting that they help since about 70% of the energy gets converted to heat. If I had a choice out of a hardware store I'd try a compact fluorescent screw-in type that is "soft white" since it's wavelength output is similar to that of the UVA/UVB bulb designed for reptiles.

  • @m1ste2tea okie dokie...

    thanx for everything.. :)

i'll get the bulb as soon as possible.

  • what happened to turtles claws

  • @n2488 I bought the turtle like that, my best guess is that some other turtle chomped his hand when he was smaller, the one hand has all claws missing except the pinkie claw, so its not a genetic deformity... he got into a turtle fight... with shredder.

  • Great job on the 10 gallon per inch rule! Plus you filled up the tank as much as possible which is great! So goodjob! :)

  • @xbrittxunlovedx hi, Not sure if the gallon per inch rule was sarcasm, but anyways I re-homed the fish in this tank, the koi all went to ponds and the pacu went to a 260 gallon tank. The baby turtle has her own grow-out planted tank all to herself too. so no worries.

  • @m1ste2tea

    It wasn't lol. :)

  • @m1ste2tea

    I think it's a nice set up.

  • @xbrittxunlovedx plus the 10 gallon per inch rule is a pretty bad dogma. It is basically what SOME petshop employees tell their customers because it sounds legit, sells the fish and sells the bigger tanks. such ratios must be determined seperately for every fish and factors such as fish maneuverability, O2 in H2O mixture, flow rate, tankmates, and feeding habits should all be considered.

  • Thanx for info. Much appreciated. Is it possible to add more then 1 filter in the tank?

  • @nreal2003 of course. I used to have a hang-on-back filter and an in-tank filter all in one 55 gallon tank. they were on opposite corners and it helped me with the overstocked tank. I always thought of it as a temporary solution until I got a nice big filter. It was more work to clean and not the prettiest solution. you can almost never have "too much" filtration.

  • I don['t have anything yet. Trying to learn the species first before i go ahead and make the purchase. What size tank do you have in the video? So basically start off with baby RES with adult size oscar and jack so they can get to know each other othe wise adult size RES would bully the smaller fish.

  • @nreal2003 yeah, fish bigger than turtle. although not too little. my big pacu ate a tiny 1 inch turtle that I found :( got rid of that one. That tank is a 55 gal, you can find them cheap on craigslist. start with your tank and get a good canister filter, big fish and turtles are dirty and need LOTS of filtration. then appropriate your fish purchases for the size of the tank. for a 55 gallon I would suggest no more than 3 8-12 inch fish, or no more than 6 4-8 inch fish and so forth.

  • Your turtle get along fine with the ciclid oscar? They can coexist without fighting? Thinking about getting an oscar, jack dempsey, and a red ear slider. Just not sure if they can get along.

  • @nreal2003 first off, my oscar is in another 55 gallon tank, but he will soon go to this one... I am just waiting for him to get bigger. I worry about it nonetheless, turtles will nip the fins of bigger fish. if you can get the turtle as a tiny 1-2 inch baby, then they will be fine with 4 inch oscar and jack dempsey, but I wouldnt put a 2 inch fish with a 4 inch turtle. the oscars and Jd's are slow swimming fish and don't make the best tankmates for turtles in most cases. what size are your fish

  • I got 2 questions...

1)Where did you get your filters? I have one and its CRAP! Its an Exo-terrain Turtle Cliff...

2)Have your turtles ever gotten white spots on their shells? If so, how did you get it off? Apparently its shell rot or fungus.. :(

  • @Chikenbrain okay, I got my filters on ebay... im currently running an odyssea cfs500(see my videos about it) im very happy with this filter. as far as the shell rot problem you have to give your turtle more time to dry, set up a better basking dock,(a dark surface gets warmer, put a more powerful heat lamp), and you have to force it to get dry more often. take it out of the tank for an hour, let it roam around you floor, and shell rot will grow out by itself. also extra calcium powder on food.

  • @m1ste2tea Sweet man, thanks!!

  • Wow that is wonderful!! Its so calm and pretty, and I love how your feeders turned into monster eaters, lolz hahah thats funny!!

  • @FiestyCat86 yeah my wife is quite fond of them now, we're giving away the koi, and pacu for a bigger home and keeping the comets... they're that good...

  • @m1ste2tea ahhh what a happy ending...for the fish anyway, they started out life as dinner, and now they are family...lolz Im about to tear up, thats so cute. Who says feeders can't be pets?

  • @FiestyCat86 they're alright in my book, and I'm in theirs as long as I have food in my hands... otherwise they don't care for me. my oscar is more personable but I suppose it is also my influence. I always thought it would be cool to grow out a large goldfish from a tiny feeder... thats part of the lure of fishkeeping, raising beautiful fish from its smallest, earliest state of being whether it be eggs, fry, or store bought juvies.

  • @m1ste2tea sadly, my range of keeping is limited to bettas, and breeding is not an option, but I try to get them as young as possible so that i can watch them grow, and I gotta tell ya, watching the changes they go through, it excites and calms me. I love fish, like some people love dogs. You are lucky that you have the time and space to have these big beauties, I wish I could have an oscar, they are so pretty...

  • @FiestyCat86 one of my best friends also has like 5 betta bowls... so I get it. If confined to the bowl you are, have you looked into african dwarf frogs? if you get a pair the male starts buzzing(croaking), its really neat. I have seen them at just about any pet store that sells fish. Plus you can combine them with bettas, in the same bowl.

  • hahahah thats so funny that you mentioned frogs, because I just went and bought two today, and named them Gilbert and Arney!! They are so tiny!! The only problem...my betta went and ate ALL their food...so he's REALLY bloated, like three times the normal kind of bloating. I'm worried about him, but its his fault for being such a pig...jk, I made a video if you wanna see, its not the greatest quality, but you can at least see him.

If your friend has any advice I'm willing to listen.

  • @FiestyCat86 friend says "feed the frogs on a terracotta plate inside their bowl. Put some water onto the food, suck it up w/a turkey baster, tap on the glass to let the frogs know its feeding time, squirt the food directly on the plate. They will smell the food once
