Thank you so much for this. I saw the parade back in the 90's when I was a child and I loved it so much that I bought the VHS tape in the park and would watch it everyday! I bet if I did some digging I could find it. This is definitely one of Disneys greatest parades.

Alan, i have a question, that same day (the one of your april 28 visit to disneyland) how was the night schedule to MSEP, Fantasmic! and Fantasy in the Sky? Becasue im curious how were u able to see both MSEP and Fantasmic! the same night?

Well, @fjdxguitar , you are in luck! I have the times guide for Disneyland from April 26-28, 1996. I've posted it to my travel blog (YouTube won't let me paste the link, but you can get there from my YouTube channel) . As this was Sunday, April 28, 1996, there were no fireworks that night (indeed, over the years, I've missed out on DL fireworks many times). I saw the one and only performance of MSEP at 8:30 p.m. and the second performance of Fantasmic! at 9:45 p.m.

@yasudab1 The entertainment department, for some reason, felt that the parade was crude and rudimentary for many years, although the popularity grew every year. They wanted to replace the parade since the late 70s, but they were held back by the tremendous popularity of the parade. They got their chance in 1992, when they were given the budget to make Fantasmic. The success of Fantasmic gave the entertainment department the leverage to make the President cave in.

@yasudab1 This video is from the year that Disneyland advertised the parade was going to "Glow Away" forever. The "final" performances were several months after my visit.

@asdTubeU Yeah, in fact I was at the park for the last two performances the Monday before Thanksgiving. They had a little ceremony before the second performance. And I was glad I was there!

I like Tinkerbell very much, but the one fairy that should always lead the Electrical Parade is the Blue Fairy. It is not the same without the Blue Fairy leading the parade.

On Main Street is where it belongs! Man I sure miss the days sitting on the sidewalks of Main Street watching this parade. I am a 33 year old man and get choked up every time I see this parade or videos of it. I too hope now that Ca Adventure has the water show this parade will come back to Main Street. It's in FL now, and is rumored to go back to it's rightful place when it comes back to California. I can only hope. Yeah I am a Disney nerd... I just can't help it, I grew up in this park.

you do know that when this parade came back from florida, it ook our mechanics here in the Disneyland Resort a full year to repair it, because in florida they dont take are of their parades like we do in the Disneyland Resort, they thrash the shi out of their parade floats. So when the electrical parade comes back to DCA or DLP(Disneyland Park) it will be awhile before it debuts because of repairs.

@pvtread ya know dude i wish it was that easy, but there was once a dream that was disneyland and a dream that was walts, the dream is fucking dead thats for sure, walt would shoot himself if he saw whats his parks and company has become. @kingtigertank i know what u mean, but when i went yesterday the people there were actualy realy cool, and nice, i also heard the rumer that this parade will return to mainstrre for good, idk if its true, but i hope it does, also the wishes firework show was still going, along with fantasmic, which was awsome as usual, i watched it from next to the rivers of america, and stayed for the fireworks, all in all, it was an awsome day

Nicely done...I worked on this parade the supposedly 'last summer' that it showed...and we (cast members) new that it was a farce; pure marketing; it worked though, that summer the park was hugely packed for that reason. Nice memories though, too.

Main Street Electrical Parade unfortunately ended its run in Paris back in 2003. Those floats were sent back to Walt Disney World, as far as I know, all except for the Pinocchio Unti and Dwarf Mine. They are back here at Disneyland now. I heard the same rumor about the Blue Fairy. Let's cross our fingers for the next season.

Worked this parade from 1987 until its close. Had to have seen it at least 1000 times and I still love it. The introduction, the lights going off, and the Blue Fairy leading the way. PERFECT! It was great to watch it go down Main Street from the hub. If you sat on the south side of the hub you could see four units twinkling all the way to Town Square. Saw it at recently at CA Adv. no Blue Fairy or Circus! Music is different too. Not as good as it once was. Thanks for the video!

That's an insightful analyst from a first hand point of view. Thank you for sharing that. People need to know what it really meant to be apart of the Main Street Electrical Parade, the way it was in Disneyland. I personally think it was fine the way it was. No need to fix something that isn't broke. I still love it though, and will continue to support it until it comes back to Disneyland.

I think one of the main reasons they sent the parade to DCA was because of business. They thought that taking the classic and placing it in the park that wasn't doing so hot would raise ticket sales for DCA. I really hope they do decide to bring it back to Disneyland though.

They really should bring it back to Disneyland. I'd like to see them coming down Main Street again. It always seemed more 'magical' to see this lit-up parade going down a hometown street.

My earliest memory of seeing the parade was 5 years old, and we watched it near It's a Small World.

Then in 1989, we watched it from the triangle hub, and in 1990, maybe halfway up Main Street (our Dad recorded it on camcorder that year).

Hopefully when DCA gets their new show in the lagoon, the parade will be back at Disneyland! Everyone in CA was sad to see it go. I still have my VHS of the parade they were selling that year. It's not the same in DCA!

Having just seen the Fantillusion Parade a couple of weeks ago (two nights in a row), I agree that MSEP is better. Nevertheless, Fantillusion is very good parade -- better on Sunday night (and I assume other weekend nights) when the parade stops, interacts with the castle, and there are extra street performers than on the Monday night on which I saw it. I will post video of it (probably the Monday night version, as I was not as well-positioned to shoot video on Sunday night).

AWESOME VIDEO! Excellent job editing! I didn't think you'd be able to, but you really did get the best parts of the parade into 10 minutes! Nicely done! Only criticism, why not let the Fanfare of Lights finish? You left me hanging there at the end. Audio editing was excellent as well! Overall, it was a very well done piece. Let me guess, you were in the Central Hub, on the inside circle, and you were looking toward the Matterhorn and Plaza Inn, correct?

Thank you for the note. The audio was all live to the original video tape because the current version of iMovie '08 I used for this edit makes it very difficult to move audio around separate from the video (that sort of audio editing was actually much easier back in iMovie 2.0). The audio ends where it does because when standing at the junction of the hub and Main Street, after the fanfare the music just keeps going while the parade keeps going down the rest of Main Street.

You're welcome. I can tell all of the audio was live. I'm impressed that you were able to make it flow so well. That software sounds pretty good. How much is it? So you're talking about the music that's coming from the Main Street zone itself, right? That's what usually happens. It seems the timing of the finale float was just right to have the fanfare play while it was still in that zone. It would've been nice to hear it anyway. I'm a real purest when it comes to the parade. :)
