funny, instead of going through all that work converting and wasting propane to heat water for steam, it could've just used propane and been more powerful and more efficient. But for the fun of it, this is cool.
Can I get some sort of conversion kit for my car? in all seriousness, more research and development into this type of engine would put oil companies out of business and that is why we don't see water/steam-powered cars now. Right or wrong?
@michauxhyatt wrong, the steam engine will never be as efficient as a gas engine (currently the best is about %50 that of a steam engine, though I'm shure it will improve greatly) plus the warm up time (flash furnaces are a good start, but still not perfect) true, the constant torque is nice, but, in all honesty, i think electric or hydrogen will take off before steam gets a 2nd chance, and once one of those is the new gas, then steam won't have a chance anymore.
they are here, its called a battery powered genrator or a dual moter electric car. the reason you don't here about them is the gov. and the patent office will not except them because they would put the power co. out of bis. and the inventors are afraid of death just look at all the past inventous of these machines all dead.there are also many other ways I did't list.
what about a plasma tourch to vaporize the water to steem??electric has alot of power too. and is the way to perpetual motion machines electric powered electric genaratiors are a good ex.
nope not a kit; it was a from-scratch build. dad jotted pictures and calculations down on scrap paper but never kept a journal unfortunately. the scraps of paper were tossed out when he did not need them anymore (he was simply a basement model engineer hobbiest). I can send you some higher res pictures of it, if it would help. The wheels are from old wheel chairs. He got the transmission out of a very old washing machine. Otherwise everything built from scratch. Dad passed away in late 2006.
@theegr1 So sorry for your loss. Your dad would be happy for you to continue his work. I can relate, my father passed away in 2002, and he was a electronics and mechanical engineer.
looks well put together, thanks for the video, makeing one of my own, hoepfuly have it done soon, Just wish i could hear that bad boy run, Anyways thanks for the video
thank you. yes one of these years i should spend some time restoring it a little. It has not run in over 10 years. it needs some tlc...It needs new air tubes for the wheels...the boiler would have to be cleaned and pressure tested, etc. My 9 year old son would love to drive it, as i did when i was young. My dad, the guy who designed and built it, passed away in 2006. i have fond memories of driving it in parades etc when i was young. heat from the boiler cooked my seat a few times LOL!
well it last ran about 10 years ago. i would want to pressure test the boiler before trying it again.needs new tires too..1/4 mile? Probably About 2 minutes! LOL!
@theegr1 if you could do 1/4 mile in 2 minutes that means it has a top speed of 11 mph... I bet you could do it in 1 minute, but i also have to factor in the acceleration...damn only if I aced physics!
while the engine and boiler were entirely his design, he did not build the transmission(capable of Forward Nutral Reverse) or the wheels, guages, or fuel tanks. However, pretty much everything else was designed and built from scratch. One other exception was the braking system..While the pedal and linkages were Bob's design, the actual brakes came themselves from bicycle parts. Why build brakes when you can buy them cheaply? He was very practical; don't reinvent the wheel sort of thing.
Yes the engine and boiler were designed and built entirely by Bob. All his materials were hand picked from a local scrap dealer. Bob built it on an 8" Emcomat lathe, equipped with a milling machine. We still have many of his engines in our basement - Some as big as 4 cylinder. He also experimented designing and building steam turbines. One turbine which we still have - runs at over 25,000 RPM.

And I'm interested in making one myself ;-)
But I rather transform an existing car into a steam car (should save a lot of construction work)

No offence, but i hate it when people refer to the throttle pedal as the "gas" Nice little car. Are those wheel chair wheels?
intheshitter 2 years ago
Nah. I think they are bicycle wheels.
KamikazeZombie 2 years ago
that is the gas pedal. you are pumping more gas into the engine when you press it. simple logic
