I'm a huge Terry Pratchet fan and to be honest i dont think the length of the sentence is as important as what he conveys in it. I think his style of writing is pretty laid back so he can get away with short sentences. It's a fine line though because otherwise it might come across as punchy, fast and intense - which i think short sentences and paragraphs can and should do given the right material to build tension higher and higher.
