  • recording is not good. But the performance is good.

  • she isa tonic to watch. I could sing this song an i appreciate her expressions are the dance is all about.god bless

  • Facial expressions - Very Good.

    Orchestra - Alright.

    :]

  • I think the orchestra is probably also very good, it's just that the recording is bad (way too much "room"). Anyway, yes, the dancer is extremely good. I appreciate her all the more having become familiar with KS Chitra's exquisite vocal rendition of this song, which you can also find on Youtube. (The instrumental arrangement is somewhat westernized but lovely.) You can also find transliterated text and translation somewhere on the web.

  • Thanks for he translation

  • Nice work sista girl! Sorry I couldn't make a more productive comment like all the others, but you're the dance prodigy of the family, not me :P

  • @CauseIWantItThatWay Barathanatiyam is more sexier than shouting loud like the some female singers with half naked oufits .

  • very nicely done. Its better then some of the professional videos here.

I believe her guru has taste

  • Yes, the heroine is very restless, like the waves of the ocean, to be with her Lord, The sound of his flute makes her pine for him.

  • im very confused about the interpretation she makes in the abinayam. its like sad, but i swear its meant to be the bitter side of love, the breaking of the heart as it overfills, and the intoxication... ?! OH WELL. its probably me just being silly!!!

    xxx

  • gd description!

  • bitter, breaking heart -- no.

    overflow, intoxication -- yes.

  • The danseuse has her Grace and expressions par excellence 11 on 10!!!

The flute kills the orchestration. Too loud and out of synch with the vocalist. Kanna would have loved to hit the artist with that very flute! X(

  • WOW!!!! I just love the facial expressions and gestures!

    simply gorgeous :)

  • lovely

  • you can perform this for an arangetram?

    i want to do that

can that be sustituded for a padam or shabdam?

  • yes, its a keerthanam actually. It fits after the varnam and before the thillana in the traditional margam I think.

  • ok thanks

  • Blowing on your flute, dancing (away/to) the time, with unbearable pangs of the heart

Your ear-rings dangle as you play upon the entrancing flute, even so does my overwhelmed heart dance!

Come! Take me to an isolated grove, and there awaken in me the emotions of love-making!

To a secluded bower take me, and there arouse me to the thrill of ecstatic union—come!

  • In this clear moonlight that makes day of night,

the milky moon burns brightly as if at midday,

As my eyebrows strain to focus in your direction,

The honeyed song of your flute wafts in with the breeze,

the mellow tunes of your flute come floating in the breeze,

And my drowsy eyes start rolling over in so strange a way,

an indescribable feeling sweeps through my being.

  • Transfixed, I stood there like a statue

Immobile, I remained there like a rock,

oblivious of the passage of time,

in such great ecstasy, O Bearer of the Flute

    ...the waves surge, O Krishna!

  • Transliterated Tamil text and English translation (I've rendered each line twice to bring out the nuances):
