I am a retired nurse of thirty-nine years. As I am reinventing my next phase of life, I am most pleased to see that many of you young people have added your talents and gifts to the internet world. It's exciting to know I have more than a rocking chair and a television to look forward to. Good luck in all your endeavors, and thanks for the how to video. I love this technology! I purchased a DELL laptop in 2008. I call it "Big Red." It's the best gift I ever gave myself. Then, art!
Thank you very much for the video! I was wondering, have any thoughts on how you would make the spine on the cover if you plan on covering the front and back covers of the book with polymer clay? (instead of fabric) (I'm going to use cardboard for the base and then mold a 3d cover on to it to give it a cast resin type effect)....
Since you talk about how you paint and draw and stuff you should get the app(if you have an iPod)stop motion studio😌Great way to make drawings come to life😝
I didn't really get how you glue the cover with the paper cover and fixed it with the signitures... What paper is that one you cut in the end? What's that for? .-.
I'm wondering if I could glue the outside of the sketchbook papers onto the book covers, since I don't trust my glue a lot (for the cloth/canvas). that's how the papers would be more secure I imagine...? nice job btw, I find this extremely helpful!
@dushevka Yeah, it's just like some softcover books that rely completely on glue to hold it all together. Go for it! You're welcome too, glad it was helpful =3
Thanks for your creative energy and hard work! I appreciate the difficulty that you have experienced and wish you the very best. Regards, Lynn Kenneth Pecknold.

I just happened to notice these videos on the side in the "related" column. Great tutorial! I have seen text tutorials before, but watching you do it on video was a huge help.
When you talk about letting the glue dry, how long are you talking? Should it dry overnight at every step, or several hours, or just until it feels dry?
I'm thinking of making one of these, and was wondering if I could start gluing up my cover and then sew the signatures while it dries.
@SongwindGlobal Hey thanks! =D Glad I could help you out. I let mine dry for a couple of hours, though overnight can't hurt either. Sometimes when the surface feels dry, it's still not dry on the inside where it really matters, then I'd give it a little extra time just to be sure. You could start making the cover, and let it dry while you work on the signatures, for sure. I just showed the order that might make sense to most people. Hope your book comes out really well!=)
@fruitsaladie Yup! Basically any hard type board will do. From actual bookbinding board, to very thin plywood, to stiff cardboard. I've even seen cereal boxes broken apart and glued together to make a thicker material. You could even use really stiff paper for a soft cover book too ;) Basically anything you can get your hands on that you think is strong enough to protect your book, and can be cut and altered with. Hope that helps! =)
Thank you for sharing this I have had a go in the past and been fine with the signatures etc but alway had trouble making an acceptable cover that opens without any difficulty with the pages being stuck to this. I have tried you methods an hey presto! everything is as it should be. Many thanks again as I now have 2 lovely leather covered watercolour sketch books so many people have asked where I got them! I will have to be my secret!!!!
@Cabbycabbage Well you're very welcome! =D I had troubles like that in the past too. It feels nice when you finally get a project to work in your manner though. I hope you keep on making your sketchbooks and that they turn out better each time. =) Thanks so much for the kind words.

@bexxiiiibex I have a terrible habit of sticking my fingers into glue. ^^; When I was younger I was dumb enough to try gluing my fingers together with superglue...I thought it'd be fun. I learned my lesson, but now I really want to try it again now...hmmm=D
um like i'm sorry i'm writing a comment so late on this video ha ha. but anyway like what if we don't have a credit car or debit card? because people like me (young people i guess ) don't have them. and like i was wondering if you just would except cash in case i'm allowed to buy one in the future... well thats it. i love you videos cause i love sketch books. ha ha and you've now been subscribed :D

This is a wonderful tutorial very detailed and great end product. I was looking all over for one to make my Grandpa some sketch books for Christmas. Thank you so much!
I dont know what to say .. on the one side you are a talented person and i am really thankfull to you. on the other side if you are selling book then why teach us. we may make our own book and not buy yours. whats the point showing us how to make it??? i dont get it
@gokumoon50 Bookmaking is an art, and this is an extremely common practice, to make a craft, also show how to make it, but offer to sell what you've made yourself. An artist can make tutorials showing how to paint but also sell the paintings they make, because some people want originals (ex. Bob Ross) You can teach how to make cakes and then also sell the ones you make. Some people don't like making crafts, but they would like a book. =)
@gokumoon50 I care more about teaching others far far more than making a profit, but I have a family with kids to support too, so I try my hardest to achieve both. But yeah, hope that made a little sense? lol Just wanted to show others one way to make a book, and I had the extra book that someone might like to have ^^
@gokumoon50 Well thank you so much! Makes me happy to know that this video was able to help you out., and that I was able to explain it all in a way that would make sense *hugs* (Look out for a new video being posted tomorrow!)^^
@gokumoon50 Also most people who sell their wares will do tutorials showing how they make them to gain interest and prove it is fully handmade because the person who would use this tutorial wouldn't be someone buying a sketchbook because they are already crafty those who are not crafty or would prefer not to go to the trouble would be the ones buying it. Just as you can sell patterns as well as the actual piece on etsy because it is two different groups of people being the target consumer.
@2darbit Thanks! I always helped out so much in the art department in school and acted a bit older than most of the students that part of the time they thought I was a student teacher or something *_* lol, I hung around in the department during my free period and sat in the other kid's classes for fun, I was and still am a dork in that way ^_^ I almost started teaching a painting class, but then moved here to Vegas, maybe in the future though? =P

Havent written anything in a while =) this was fun. I hope you have a good weekend ^-^ its the first day of October so the weather should be nice. -Diana
@Diana8Matthew It was cloudy and rained out here for once, the weather was very nice in my book! Hope you have a good weekend too, and good luck with your beautiful story, I really loved it. =)
With a smile Jasmine got up and opened the door, the weather outside was beautiful. Fall had just begun and there were brightly colored tree leaves in all directions. There was a light breeze blowing scattered leaves around, closing her eyes and letting the breeze blow through her hair she took in a deep breath of fresh fall air and felt a wavering rush of gratitude wash over her. This was what life was about, and what a beautiful life it was. (Part 2 of 2)
It had been a long and busy week for Jasmine her feet were soar and her fingers hurt from writing and typing. She had made just enough money to pay her bills for the month. Inside her small apartment she sat down at her desk and took in a deep breath. She had strived to get through the week and with a little bit of effort she had succeeded. Glancing around she saw her cat Misty sitting by the door looking at her with large bright eyes that seemed to say "Lets go outside". (part 1 of 2)

She wonders if he knows how long it’s been.
Whether days or years have passed is unclear
For time is hidden by the fog and wind.
The future’s cloudy it conceals what’s near.
She feels a presence near without a fight.
Ensuingly he appears at first sight.

Alone she looks, awaiting love that’s lost.
She’s frozen with hope, standing in a trance.
The early morning mist is cold like frost.
Warm, everlasting, love is true romance.
Their love is deeply anchored pure and strong,
Then swallowed by the currents of a storm.
The woman, so calm, with a heart so young
Waits for him and refuses to conform.
