  • the first John Denver song i learned to play was on my 65 Gibson,

  • Seeing and hearing John Denver do this song brings tears to my eyes! What a talent! RIP John!

  • loved him

  • How beautiful, and bittersweet......

  • Ah, John! I miss you and your voice and your passion for improving the lives of the children of the world

  • awww i adore john denver :) <3 xxxxx

  • I am so glad that you made this post. I have so many things to say yet dont know how to start. Just thank you and God bless you. from Earl.

  • Thanks for sharing!

  • Definitely miss John Denver! Liz

  • A beautiful song, this sounds so sad.

Yesterday, I played this for my nan who passed away recently :( She had made me a JD tape,

  • Is this from "Evening With John Denver" special and video?

  • What an amazing piece of music history. They play a recording of John singing this song at a tribute concert each year in Aspen, CO. Most of the night, other artists sing his songs. Then the lights go out and a lone guitar on stage is shown in a spotlight. John himself sings this song. Not a dry eye in the house!

  • This kind of music is from a moment in time when talents were born, then later discovered, then trully appreciated throughout their lives. Not like today, when the so-called "talents" are fabricated by the media, gulped down like fast food and then gone down the toilet next morning, if you know what I mean. Too bad this generation have to feed their souls with the rubbish that comes out the radio these days... Thank you so much John Denver, for your music, that speaks to the heart. Thank you.

  • @eezztarget Great post...couldn't agree more.

  • miss yah man

  • And the beautiful thing is, that old guitar and John both belong to the ages, not only for the wonderful music they both created but because they were cremated together. A more fitting end toa guitar I could not think of, and I've left instructions that the same be done with my Guild 12 string. JD gave me the gift of performign his songs and maybe we'll meet again, someday!

  • This song does what the lyrics say the guitar does,

  • I grew up listening to John thanks to my dad and I wish more than anything I could have had the chance to see him in concert. Regardless he has had a great impact on my life. You died well before your time John, R.I.P

  • My favorite from John..I do miss his music..But..Really if you think about it..He is never gone..I can listen to his music anytime I want to..I will always be a fan..

Thanks for sharing this video with us..

    Craig..

  • John's dear mother, Erma passed away on Jan 17. She's with John now. RIP Erma. You gave John his gentle soul. We will miss you both.

  • Lovely to hear John play this song on such a very special guitar. Thanks for posting this!

  • I didn't know guitars had souls and could talk with you until John came along. God Bless, John!!

  • wow 1910 i remeber seeing this video a while back i love this its really moving

  • I love this song as well and have played it on many occasions. It is true that a guitar can be a great friend in those cold and lonely times. Thanks John for all the great music and for sharing your talent with the world. You are one of my favorites for sure.

  • What a great beautiful song!

It will always make me slow down and tear..

What a gift, it is my favorite song from you..

    We miss you John..

  • what a beautiful song! Forever missing you John Denver

  • Love, love love this song and video!

That's a gift! Thank you so much, my friend!

  • Loved the laugh he got about being hit over the head with his guitar by someone in WA state. He sang this so sweetly. Top of his form!

  • Simply amazing. We all crave those boutique guitars yet John could play just as well on an old guitar.

  • Su música me acompañó en mis años de colegio y lo sigue haciendo. Me he emocionado hasta las lágrimas viendo el video de esta canción, sencillamente: !maravilloso!

  • {translated} :

"His music accompanied me in my years of college and continues to do so. I moved to tears watching the video of this song, simply:! Wonderful!"

............Gracias, alferfranc - cuando la música de John se mueve sobre las barreras del idioma, y vive en idiomas que no pueden hablar, que lo hace vale la pena compartir aquí. :-))

  • Lovely song.

My sweet guitar, give me a lovely lady please........

  • Yes, John is the David of the Bible playing at the feet of the King of Kings! I sure miss him! My favorite line is "I guess it broke her heart but it opened up the space for us to be."

  • fantastic song as most of his are. truly great guy..gone too soon!

  • I loved almost every song of his even if I hadn't reached his generation. I was just a kid when JD died.

  • John was and still is one of my favorite artists of all times! God I miss him so; such an inspiration. He is with God right now and entertaining Him with his glorious music. RIP John Denver

  • Where is that guitar today? Anyone know?

  • I understand from a comment on another video on Youtube that John and that guitar were cremated together, and the ashes scattered over the Rockies. ( Can anyone confirm ? )

  • Yes- both JD and his grandmother's guitar that he first learned from- the one in this video were creamated together- Annie made SURE that the guitar stayed with JD. Both were cremated and the ashes strewn over the Rockies- TRULY the only way JD would be at peace- over his beloved mountains with his guitar. Could there have been any more of a fitting tribute- I surely don't think so- neither did Annie it would seem.

  • See my reply to windsong- JD and his guitar were both cremated and the ashes were stewn over the Rockies.

  • I'm obliged, puck - I knew someone on here would know for certain :-)

  • @puck57 that would be really special to him

  • @puck57 It is currently on display at Global Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix, AZ.

  • wat a voice

  • At the risk of sounding selfish, "John, I wish you didn't go flying that day." You are still missed.

  • Thanks for sharing this with us windsong. Its' my favorite john denver song and glad to know the history behind "This old guitar" =)

  • ...I totally love the 'true depth' of this song of JD's..Thanx 4 sharing it !!

    Hugz, Jana x

  • I've listened to most JD songs maybe close to 100 times, and I've come to the conclusion that this one is the truest.

  • absolutly beautiful. has become one of my top favorite Denver arrangements !

  • Here is a guy who wrote about his true experience and feelings. We don't get this type of singers nowadays.GOD WHY DID YOU TAKE SUCH A NICE MAN AWAY FROM US!!!!!!!!! I love u JOHN.

  • This song makes me cry. I love John Denver soooo much, we lost him too soon...That's the way it is with everyone I love, I was born too late....like 30 years too late...

  • wow too many words to describe, i love John Denver TV speacials his expericence with his guitar is relatedble, i share bonds with instruments and this song has great lyrics and a great melody, this is a gret song that was left out of the greatest hits like so many.

  • I don't play any instrument, but I can understand. The English writer Spike Millgan described in a book finding a piano he'd played a long time ago as : " like patting a horse you once knew " :-)

  • excatly!

  • Simply beautiful, honest and pure. Bless you JD! You're truly missed!!
