My sophomore year at New Jersey State (AKA Rutgers), this game made that one of the best weekends ever on the Banks of the Ole Raritan. I remember storming the field thinking we did something great, then realized how foolish we all looked storming that crummy stadium field. lol It was a great game and we had a blast at it but 150 years since we started college football and we still haven't gotten very far :( Oh well, I still love the Knights! Way to go Doug Graber...where are you now?
i was young when i was at this game......and i still replay the last minute in my head and ill never forget the one quote my mother said when the ball was thrown to Bradley "NO FUCKING WAAAY!........AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!"
An incredible afternoon at the crumbling 23,000-seat old Rutgers Stadium. I think 50-49 outscored some of the RU-Virginia Tech basketball games! Of course, both RU and VT have come a long way since then. (1998 at the new Stadium: 70-14, Michael Vick killing some underdogs.) That could have been a bowl year, but the stupid Independence Bowl took 6-5 Oregon (who ended up losing) over 7-4 Rutgers. Revenge for our 11-0 team turning them down in '76, maybe? Stupid on our part.
We should have gone for two points afterwards.

One of the great games I have ever witnessed. Rutgers should have had a bowl bid that year - that club had talent and courage.
