The bad thing about the inserts is your BDU's will eventually get warn through to the point they will no longer hold the pads. Nice thing about the exterior pads is they extend the life of your BDU's and cover up some of the most warn parts, the knees and elbows. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve knelt down on glass or rocks and come away with bloody knees...the insert pads are great for awhile but like I said they cut the usable life of your bdu's by half...if not more.

Those look almost exactly like the knee pads made by a company called Rector. They where the best you could buy for skate boarding back in the late eighties and early nineties.
When I saw the description on this, my first thought was, "Pfft, there's no way I'll be able to sit through an 11-minute video on knee and elbow pads." Shows what I know! And thanks for slipping in that zombie remark for those of us who use that as our excuse to prepare! ;)
I did not know where to get the flat foam pads so I made some to fit my ACU pants from a heavy duty floor pad. I know it sounds kind of cheap but it works perfectly.
Have those pads in my motorcycle gear. They also include shoulder and kidney pads. Here's a question from a noob - how can you tell if you have real military surplus vs knockoffs? Thanks!
@Jollyprez Probably know already but genuine stuff has an nsn number on em that can normally found on the care instructions panel stitched on there somewhere.
"Getting ready to fight off zombies!" SEE!!!! Even Sootch knows it's coming! LoL!
Great video! I've been wanting some more gear, and I like USGI issue stuff. Short on fundage at the moment, but I'm definitely gonna pic up some pads and new ACU pants ASAP.
I am so glad cause the last time I had to fight off zombies I tore up my knees something fierce. LOL I just have a pair from Home Depot and have not worked into the tactical versions yet. Great one more thing to add to the list. Thanks Sootch
@wheremygat187 I thought about that. It would be a 4 point clip system with the clips on the 4 corners of the pad. That way when ur not wearing them, the clips would be off to the sides of ur knees & not in the way! :)
Sootch, here's some thing I don't know much about and maybe there are other people too. I was wondering if you could do a video on Molle fastening systems. Maxpedition has them all over their packs and how do we use them? Where do we buy the straps and what kinds are there? Hope you can help.
Knee pads r a great addition to any tactical outfit! I just wish they would come up with tactical pants with the plastic clips sewn right onto the knees. Then u could get hard shell knee pads that clip right onto the knee of the pants!
@zombiesniper74 thats an ok idea, but thing is, if you had the pads off, the clips would dig into your knees if you had to get down and had no pads on.
Sootch00, God love ya, [may] God bless America and all that, but I have to say that you've got ACUs and not BDUs there. Hard knee pads are a must for heavy use, but it's important to warn your viewers that the kind you have will increase their chances of overheating in hot climates, but they are still good. I'm glad to see that you picked some up, in any case.
I'm disappointed. You cut the kneepads with a razor.
Nutn would have had a dedicated knife on him just for that purpose with jimping, skateboard tape and a razor edged back cut. Didn't you learn anything last week?
Great video man!! I'm sure my brother has some, but i'm not sure. He's in basic right now at fort "relaxin' jackson" and he said that his entire ACU set (probably 6 or 7 pairs) cost over $1,000. So i'm sure it came with a lot of stuff, like camelbaks, pads, helmet, etc.
Sootch, Have you ever shared the whole "List" with us could you post a quick vid on it (I subscribe so I will get it) or email me the list I would love to see what TNP requested. Thanks.
The official, get down and suck Obama as we the people pay in money and lives to protect CHINA'S minerals in Afghanistan, knee pads. If I knew what I do today, when I enlisted those yrs ago, I wouldn't have enlisted. I bet the economy hasn't hurt enlistment numbers. Check out the new "NATIONAL SECURITY STRATEGY" with the verbiage "INTERNATIONAL ORDER" "IMF" and "US MILITARY" for enforcement. FTW
is this for an adventurer like me?

if the guards have used these, then they just might still be adventurers like me.

sootch,
those soft knee- and elbow-pads are intended for an extra layer of cushioning with the hard pads, not to be used on its own.
if they had been three times as thick, you could have used them for "around the house" work.
i really hope you didn't pay 15$ for them! :)
