TruenoandLevin86 - No need to generalise Europeans. I agree with you. Indycar used to be a magical series. The crap we have to put up with now with Indy racing league is a joke.
Im from europe but i have to say mid 90s when i found out about CART i was hooked up instantly. The various tracks and great racing made it more interesting to watch then F1 for me. I still remember watching these races as little child in the middle of the night. When Greg Moore died (one of my favorite drivers), CART died as well. Still great memories to this era im missing it, these days no series on the world gets close to what it was back then.
Maybe my eyes are fooling me, but is that the FOX logo in the lower-right corner of the screen during the clip of the 2004 Cleveland GP (at 2:04) ? I know the races were all on Spike TV (like the current Versus deal, they had a great, enthusiastic crew but crap ratings and promotion), but were they re-aired later on FOX or something?
As short as it was since these races were run, it's a different time now. Open wheel racing has aged more than the calendar indicates since CART's demise. I sure miss those days!
as much as i love open wheel racing,if cart won out the supporters of the nixxed series would have felt this way. having said that, it really didnt matter who won because the second they split up in the 90's the sport lost credibility. like baseball has. (94 strike-steroids) im just glad that they decided to merge some of the cart into the irl like turbo, alternate tires, more road racing/street circuits, and in my opinion a cooler looking car than the dp01 the early cart cars were the best tho
Why Tony George ? Wtf indycar in VS anybody could see the races, you destroy the open wheel racing in america, this was beutiful rancing that you destroy not the bullshit that right now is. Is sad for marco and graham.
Greg Moore was my favourite driver and if he was still with us today i would of still been a fan i am sure he would of been a great driver even at these times
Because NASCAR is wathched by relatively more Americans than F1 is watched by Europeans. Relatively ofcourse. And NASCAR turns a lot left and a little right. It's just that the avarage american racing driver is much better at turning left than European drivers are. It doesn't help either that British stockcar races are usualy driven clockwise and most European roadcourses are clockwise.
i do miss champ car now... the more i watch these videos, the more i realise that come surfers this year, the indycars wont be as satisfying to watch...
At least i can say this, Will Power won the final champ car race... heck yeah!!
Even the disabled, on life support Champ Car that we lived through these last few years was better than the IRL is this year, with all our crappy boys racing!
Seems like none of the terrestrial channels in Britain are showing even highlights of the IRL this year. Not that great a loss TBH, I watched it last year, really only for Dario Franchitti and the incredible flying cars. Franco's gone to NASCAR, Katherine Legge decided to go Touring Car racing this year. Maybe this "reunified" series will get better in time but right now i'll stick with happy memories of CART.
this video is awesome... its nice to remember this and the song is perfect for the video... very nostalgic... the merger will be excellent for racing, but before the split, everything was going in the right direction. poor tony. he just wanted to control this and didnt looked for the benefits of the fans who enjoyed a real and great american open wheel racing
omg..i remember the CART-A-Thon that SPEED Channel had during the winter time...wish they had programing like that sometimes, instead of the reailty crap they have on it now. How many different PINKS shows can one network have?? lol
Another great video by CC4E. Thank you. FOX broadcast the '02 LBGP - I think that was the only one. I forced myself to watch the IndyCar race at Homestead the other day. Dallaras are fugly. Please, Tony, it seems you're trying to make amends with CC/CART fans. So bring back the Panoz in '09!!
You're right, probably '02; 1. I saw no Penske cars, and 2. that year was the first for SPEED Channel's CART broadcasts (and of course FOX and SPEED are in the same family).
Nice Job! But hears to a new era! In the long run one unified series will be best for open weel racing. Just as long as they keep the the irl at least half ovals and the irl brings turbos in 2010.
ill always remember patrick carpentier running down the front stretch @ mid ohio wearing only a checkered flag

I have a question for the Europeans:
Why do you say that our American drivers only know how to turn left when this very series that rivaled F1 was proof that we didn't?
TruenoandLevin86 2 years ago
becuase they are full of shit.
at its peak Cart was never F1 for the drivers. It was close in the 90's it was more the other series than a alternative to F3000.
That said it was far more entertaining than F1 for the fans, better racing, and I liked the mix of ovals road and street courses.
I miss it alot, F1 doesn't fill the void and neither does the IRL.
